>2d platformer
>enemies don't die when you jump on them
2d platformer
Why landing on an enemy would hurt you makes no sense. You have shoes and the weight of your body impacting their vulnerable head.
I can understand it doesn't have to destroy the enemy, but it certainly shouldn't hurt the played.
not all enemies are weak as piss
>any game
>contact damage
>2d plataformer
>shot a gun
>1mph bullet
Ruined hollow knight for me
>yet you falltens of miles per hour
>attack connects with enemy
>massive knockback
>enemy's attack connects with you
>massive knockback
>you so much as touch the enemy
>damage and massive knockback
So if I fall feet first on your head, you're not going to collapse to the floor?
Do I look like a fucking elephant to you?
>You beat the final boss
>Your actions had no effect on the outcome at all
What is Kingdom Hearts?
Obviously I'll collapse considering you weigh like 300 fucking pounds.
>2d platformer

>2D platformer
>fall damage
>Ed, Edd n Eddy
Fucking Bubsy
>the infinite void and nothingness
>game advertises "unmatched player freedom"
>no running or jumping
>grind for specific rare-tier weapon
>find trash-tier weapon with better stats not 10 minutes later
>"the game will require a restart in order to apply these changes. restart now?"
>the changes don't take effect
>full controller support
>only supports certain functions on any given controller
>advertised as having coop
>there's no coop mode
>villagers can chop trees for resources
>axemen can't
>can't get past boulder because you don't have the right ability
>there's clearly more than enough space to squeeze by
>design your character your way!
>no male gender options for half of the classes
>contact damage
>knockback
>bottomless death pits and instakill hazards
the holy trinity of shitty design
Of course, 2D platformers are known for their realistic mechanics.
>playing game
>you die while sending a text message
This is the game designer's fault, I cannot be expected to stare at the TV screen at all times. I have a life, lol.
no but you will be impaled from mouth to anus
>2D platformer
>jump on an enemy
>you die
same, I know this is controversial, but I honestly didnt like hollow knight at all because of this. I nejoyed salt and sanctuary much better, in all its fuglyness
...
>Playing Shantae GBC
>Pretty fun
>Can't jump on enemies to kill them, hurts you instead
>Whatever, no big deal, they're easy enough to avoid or kill in other ways
>Get to the second-to-last boss
>Can't figure out for the life of me how to damage him
>Turns out you have to jump on his head to make him vulnerable
The first time I played this I had a brief moment of panic when I jumped on an enemy and nothing happened.
2D platformers like Sonic and Mario can get away with it but contact damage has no business existing in slower games like Metroidvanias or any 3D game at all except racing games.
Get good
>enemies won't die when jumping on them
>insta death on touching most enemies
>insta death on falling down too far
>acrobatic movements to help you survive and solve puzzles
>implying it wasn't fun as hell and you guys aren't disgusting plebs
>walk off of platform
>stuck in a pit with an enemy
>the enemy is behind me
>the way out is behind him
>2d platformer
>the sides of spikes hurt you if you touch them
...
> Water kills you.
>enemy has spikes
>you can jump on them
>instant kill pits
literally the definition of artificial difficulty
