holy shit this game is good. fourth wall breaking isn't as hamfisted as i thought it will be, it's suprisingly emotional, and short enough to not overstep its bounds as a gimmick game. God i'm glad i tried it.
i'd love to see it being more nonlinear though. File-related gimmicks are really cool, but except intended monika thing it's all read-only. Reading files was fine too, but it would be nice to, let's say, reconfigure the game based on available files and realize that no matter what you do, it all goes to shit
also, i'm all teary eyed over the ending piano song. i won't say it's umineko-tier ending, but it's kinda close to being comparable when it comes to emotional stuff

I finished this yesterday. It was my first visual novel. I still love Yuri. We will stare at each other forever.
Ethan Butler
i enjoyed the moment she went all hot and started spilling her secrets
Leo Lopez
The warm wash cloth was the bestest moment ever.
Parker Reed
It was a cool way for the devs to promote themselves with it and put 'hidden' material about their next project.
Worked on me to make me interested in their future work.
Jackson Martin
>opened monika file out of curiosity >found png header >cool gimmick, maybe happy thoughts.png is 'recoverable'? >it's not >found some lines in game script, except you get those lines in text files anyway >gave up, googled later >fucking qr codes, coded links, whatnot
i wasn't expecting this much. the guy was all about "making use of vidya medium", and he surely did it right
Noah Morales
now go play a real vn
Kevin Adams
what is real user
Ryan Moore
>hardcore vn player, unlike those casual vn shitters kek
William Fisher
is monika the beatoriche of VN?
Cameron Turner
no, she's sacchin. except this sacchin isn't sad, this sacchin has a plan

I just wanted a real Natsuki route. It's not that I didn't like the 4th wall breaking thing. I felt like I was given something that I didn't order. I mean it's cool and all but just give me my natsuki ending man. fuck.
Carson Miller
Here's your Natsuki route: >Natsuki's dad beats her badly enough that she decides to kill herself. >The end.
Ryder Martinez
I assume she only had a very strict father. The beating and malnourished jokes were monika's doing after she hacked the game so they'd become very unlikable.
Jace Barnes
If you do festival preparations with her at the end she mentions that she needs to go home to eat as much as possible, now that dad has made dinner. It's not much, but with hindsight it's a hint. All of the girl's issues were there, Monika just made them worse.
Leo Martin
I thought she had to eat it because she's be reprimanded if she didn't finish her food. It's also likely that her father rarely cooks for her that she wants him to be happy if she eats lots of his cooking. I mean if she can bake as much as she does I'm pretty sure she doesn't have shortage in either food supply at home or allowance to buy the ingredients.

fuck me *she'd

Fun and short game. There are multiple scares and hidden messages that will make your playthroughs a little different everytime (although I don't recommend replaying this game at all). Too bad there's no normal route tho. I was getting invested in the storyline and I wanted to discover Yuri's weird secrets.
Christian Jenkins
It was a really nice little game. Sup Forums threads about it right after release were top comfy too. Stay away from the /vg/ thread though, it has already gone to shit.
Brody Kelly
But who is this?
Matthew Cook
It's pretty overhyped desu. No where an amazing VN even by entry-level tier standards. It probably would've been better if it stayed as some kind of PSA for mental health disorders or something and kept the horror, but the monika stuff at the end seemed a bit hamfisted like they wanted it to end and kind of rushed into it to get it over with.
That being said, it's still an okay 6.5/10. If it gets more people to read more interesting VNs, I'm all for people reading it.
If you want to know my tastes, I'd recommend Muv Luv for a longer genre-switch experience or Saya's Song for a must play, short entry-level VN
Joseph Morgan
>pick Natsuki >keep picking Natsuki >Natsuki gets mad that I'm being with Yuri even though I'm doing everything to be with Natsuki >last time I saw her she ran away puking
Jaxson Carter
It's a fun experience but nothing more. Apparently it's all just marketing for another title in the works, releasing in 2018.
Also Muv-Luv is overrated and not really that good. And Saya no Uta is just alright
