Just finished pic related. I haven't cried like that in years.
Can we talk about amazing this game is?
Just finished pic related. I haven't cried like that in years
I remember I couldn't finish the game because my part 2 CD broke.
Its really a travesty that this hasn't had a re-release on Steam, GoG, Android, or any other modern platform.
Its such a great game, it really shouldn't be lost in a legal grey area on discontinued hardware and emulators.
My favorite game, glad you liked it, OP. What were your favorite parts?
Did you ever get around to finishing it?
This is near the top of my interest list for the GameCube remake. Did they botch that version and should I actually be hyped to play it?
>The one scene with Aika and Fina where they're separated from Vyse in the desert town
>You know the one I'm talking about
Where do I even start? There's just so much about it to love. The atmosphere is captivating, the soundtrack is enchanting, the sense of exploration is exhilarating. They did really well with the discoveries.
>Escaping the Grand Fortress
>Battling the Gigas
>Crossing South Ocean
>Stealing the Delphinus
>Crossing the Dark Rift
>Sailing around the world
>Finding Drachma and Rhankam in Glacia
>Visiting the Great Silver Shrine
>Seeing all of the Air Pirates come to join you for the final battle
It's just amazing, it really is.
It has lower quality audio to make it fit on a single mini-dvd rather than the 2 dvds used by the Dreamcast version, otherwise it has some quality of life improvements and new content, so it's overall the better version.
I stopped playing it when I got to the blue moon kingdom.
I don't know why but the whole 'dark stormy clouds' dungeon traumatized me and it took me 30 minutes to beat the big eel boss at the end.
I'm racking my brains but I'm afraid I'm coming up short
Can you give me a hint?
I have a strange thing with this game.
You see, back in the day I completed it, and of course after spending some good 5-6 hours just going around the world completing sidequests after beating the game I decided to start looking for the actual things online.
I got all of it, except one thing, the giant looper battle. Long story short, there is a giant looper you can fight with your ship.
And the thing is, I looked for it really fucking hard, and at some point I started growing scared of it jumping unexpectedly at me.just appearing out of nowhere.
And since then I've been scared of enormous things suddenly appearing in videogames, whenever I am in an out of bonds area or anywhere in which nothing can be seen, I am scared of a big figure appearing.
Darkstalker Kaathe in dark souls for example scared the shit out of me.
no because I couldn't find another cheap copy for my Dreamcast
He probably means when they wake up together in bed on Clara's ship after being rescued.
One of my favourite parts is entering Not-Japan land
And them being so confused your hair isn't black.
there's a rumor that the game originally was going to have full voice acting
also the early content about buying/selling ships is weird with the current story. i guess it makes sense it was cut, but i can see the appeal of flying any ship you want in a game like this.
Bingo bango
What is the best way to play this nowadays? Dolphin?
Obligatory gif.
It looks fantastic when it's 3x upscaled
You could see they intended it by listing the value of the Delphinus and the Little Jack
And there was a crew function that increased the ship's value too
It's the little details that can make a game great.
I definitely recommend you finish it
The game was meant to have stronger online functionalities, including customizing the ships and buying them from/selling them to other players. Eventually they scrapped them and the ship's value (increasing which was Merida's passive crew effect if I recall correctly) remained as an artifact.
jesus christ 3d women are ugly
Yeah, it was telegraphed how each area was modeled after a different part of the world
You had Not-Japan, Not-Africa, Not-North Pole, Not-Arabia
But it was all done so well that it wasn't a bother. At least, not to me anyway.
I wouldn't call those 'little'.
Really? You were going to be able to buy and sell your ships to and from other plays online on the Dreamcast?
That actually sounds kind of boss but I think it belongs under the optional extras category
dolphin works fine but the sound isnt super good on gamecube
but hey, you get free camera
I really like the characters and setting, but the combat aged so fucking bad. Random encounters, takes awhile for the encounters to actually load, by midgame you're just spamming delta shield and shield of justice while Vyse whacks enemies. You need to play this on a emulator for it to actually be decent. At least then you could fast forward battles and have instant load times thanks to SSD.
My favourite game of all time. Planning on replaying it next year.
Full voice acting was planned but scrapped quickly because they were already filling up 2 GD-ROMs, making a third disc would have increased the game price.
I remember liking it, but what is there to cry about?
that video games hit a peak there and that amount of passion seen in future games will be rare and far between?
Can we have more Skies wallpapers please?
Who was the best 4th member? I think I remember Enrique being the best in terms of specials.

This pic is also the inside art of the back insert of the game. Unfortunately, the previous owner of this game literally ripped off the side of the game's art so the art is damaged and you can't see the game's title from the side anymore on my copy, but I still love it
the most broken 4th member is enrique just for Justice Shield. Majority of damage in this game is physical based and that skill reduces the damage taken by 50% for EVERY party member.
...
>Game gives you 3 options for the flag
>Everyone I know who played the game picked the Dolphin
Why is this?
best flag
...
Maybe he cried because after the end there's no other game like it, I don't really remember the story being tragic save a few sad moments like the guetto getting razed, the ending is happy and the adventure continues.
Clara is underrated
also, it's a quick effect spell. meaning it doesn't matter if the boss is has 9999 quick rating, enrique will always have the first turn.
still no hd port is weird
SAME thing happened to me. I ended up finishing it on an emulator with crappy sound quality.
dolphin emulator basically counts as a HD port
but yes it would be nice to have a actual PC version with the superior audio from the Dreamcast version and the gameplay changes from the Gamecube version.
>is weird
It's SEGA, it's not weird, it's common place for them not to do anything right.
Thanks.
Any of you guys try out that one combat rebalance mod for skies of arcadia? It's supposed to make magic more useful and the game less cheap.
bump
But how would you actually mod the game?
I'm fairly new to all this so you'll have to excuse my ignorance but as I understand it, a mod works by replacing or making new files in a game's directory
But to play the game on an emulator you need an iso which is a disc image file right? So, how do you access the directory to make changes when there's only a single file?
it's a hack. most people like can't tell the difference.
>tfw used copies go for like 100 euro
Why did my younger self have to be so retarded and sell stuff
you mean you spam attack and Lambda Burst every turn until everything dies
you can open the disc image file in a disc image editor and add/remove stuff. dolphin already has a built in file explorer for it.
a hack means injecting cheats into the game like action replay. the combat rebalance doesn't use cheats as you're replacing files inside the ISO.
>love this game on dreamcast as a kid
>try it out on dolphin, on the improved version
>encounters every 4-5 seconds
>battles slow as fuck
ahhhhhh my nostalgia reeee
You're kidding. I never knew that. Would you kind enough to give me a rundown on where it is and how to use it?
that's not the only meaning hack has, you sensitive child.
>Romhacking.net
Go and educate yourself.
That's true. Why hasn't Sega ported it yet?
>Get a crack team of munitions experts
>Or get a bunch of titty monsters that are relying on enthusiasm
Just like real life.
That's why I always went with Khazim
this part
i'm already sniffling just posting it
...
Somehow I think that simply reading of Drachma's eventual fate in text form makes it more effective than if we had seen it in a full-blown cutscene, it fits the somber tone of his character.
>try burning the CDs to play on my DC
>get through first disc, love it
>2nd disc is fucked and never get it to work
>expensive as hell for both DC and GC
I'd kill for a rerelease, something, anything.
Guess at this point my best bet is to softmod my vWii on my wii u, but I really cant be assed to do that. I got dios mios on my brothers wii and started it there but then he took that shit back, dammit.
From a standpoint outside of Sega, there doesn't really seem to be any obvious legal reasons barring an HD remaster, but who knows. It could be lack of interest on their part, or maybe it's another episode of "Sega Lost the Source Code".
Khazim's conversation joining the crew was hilarious
One of the best additions in the GC remake were those scaling optional bosses that you actually had to use a bit of strategy to defeat
>the chad airship
this was a good game but for the love of god stop it with the HD remakes how about a new game A NEW GAME THIS IS WHAT IS REALY NEEDED
