Why in the absolute fuck is this game getting inordinate amounts of praise from a small group of people on Sup Forums? After playing sixteen hours on Nightmare, going into it with the best of intentions and optimistic based on word of mouth alone, I fail to see the appeal of it. By the end I was just skipping as many cutscenes as possible and rushing past shit because I wanted the damn slog to be over and done with.

I didn't like any of the hub areas, I got a lot of weird bugs related to player positioning where I'd teleport around randomly, most of the enemies were just bog standard red-eyed zombies, the main character is pretty generic and whoever his voice actor is has some kind of sinus problem, the story is nothing to write home about, and other than a few setpieces there really wasn't anything original or compelling that kept me motivated enough to be excited for what came next. I basically stopped using guns entirely past the halfway mark once I cottoned on to the fact that stealth kills were more reliable than bullets, turning it into some kind of jank stealth game.

What makes it Game of the Year? It's not like this year hasn't had any other good games, so what sets this one apart? What am I missing here?

The whole stealth argument really fails in the second half of the game tho, if you play on nightmare and still have to sneak kill shit at that point that isn't the games fault. You should have just gotten the bullet time upgrade, that makes killing sigificantly easier, faster and the combat much more exciting.Overall I also liked the hub areas a lot even tho they are a bit samey looking and generally enjoyed every second of it. Still not my personal GOTY but you just see at how Sup Forums trashes the game that there are clearly no marketer involved. Its sad to say that but at this point thats reason enough to buy a game for me, with the contrarian hive mind only gettign worse.
