So what did you think about it overall?

Wii would like to play.
In my personal opinion, it was a pretty decent console that had a lot of things going for it. I still a lot of nostalgic memories with mine
It was great. Although, I have more nostalgia for the GameCube and N64.
Great console. Had shit tons of fun from its release untill they stopped making games for it.
1st gen Wiis have full backwards compatibility with GC games, that was real awesome
It's way better once you hack it
Lousy gimmick bargain bin console that set gaming back years. A glorified demo disk is it's fifth best selling game.
better yet you can use the component cable for the wii to play GC games without having to shell out retarded amounts of cash for the GC component cable.
Winners of the last gen
Wait, was that not a thing for later gens?!?!
If it didn't, I prob wouldn't have got one
Best emulator machine available if you're into retro stuff and playing on a CRT
Playing Wii Sports with my family was pretty hype. Too bad that's the only game that utilized motion controls in any meaningful way. I still have my Wii hooked up, primarily for GameCube games though.
The gamecube let you play gameboy games on your tv i liked playing pokemon gen 3 on tv
Great games and innovative motion controls, but outdated hardware.
Although the Wii has the benefit of having perfect GameCube backwards compatibility, and is the last console to support 240p.
Amazing system.
For emulation and the games itself are pretty okay.
The later gens came out years later after the first edition. The Family edition came out in 2011 and mini came in 2012 (originally a Canada exclusive). The mini is the worst since they you can't play online or hack it.
Pretty good console. Shame there won't be any more new games after 2018.
The Wii is still getting new games?
One, but it's Just Dance.

A fistful of gems in an ocean of sewage
Also a brief second renaissance for on rails shooters
Name : Revolution>Wii
Versions: The original release was the best
Games: Too many casual games, but there were good REAL ones if you actually looked for them
Lifespan: Can't think of anything notable past 2010
You should look at zangeki no reginleiv
It was the "hidden gems" console where every good game was an overlooked secret because of gamers ignoring its library.
This so much.
>mfw Fragile Dreams.
I have some comfy memories playing it at my friend's house.
Fantastic library, got tons of great games, unfortunately was the victim of a ton of shovelware as well.
Overall a great console.
it was a good business decision, but kind of a big fuck you to the fans
Had a lot of great games, the WiiWare had a lot of gems with the Art Style series and the Virtual Console was great too.
Underpowered fuelled by gimmicks and shovelware with barebones online, BUT it had some amazing games.
It might be the console with the single biggest amount of shitware and shovelware, but it's also got enough great titles to stand up to pretty much any other console.
>pic related
the first Sin and Punishment was a much better game IMO
Needed more on-rail arcade shooters. That is literally what the Wii's entire purpose was for me.
Nintendos best home console (if switch keeps software up for 5 years, then that'll take the spot.
Biggest negatives were forced motion in some games that didn't need it, and lots a shovelware. Otherwise amazing console, innovative controller that really did make playing some games a totally unique experience, and some of Nintendo's best software.
I think NSMBWii (albeit the art style sucks) is the best 2d mario, galaxy is the best 3d mario, tpp was the best 3d zelda, metroid prime trilogy, pikmin, mario kart, donkey kong, so many amazing first party.
Then third party with no more heroes, madworld, muramasa, rune factory, lightgun games, trauma center, red steel 2, and so much more.
Plus the virtual console was the greatest digital marketplace I've seen to date on consoles, every company wanted to get their older games on there. And thankfully long term since the wii is easily modded, everything is preserved forever.
Anyone on the fence, you get a full set wii for 50 bucks, buy a sd card and portable hdd for 50 (if you dont have one), then you've got access to everything. Pretty amazing. Just my opinion though. At the time however I mostly hated it, i was more wowed by the other hd consoles, but nowaday 9 out of 10 times I'll likely play something on the wii over the others.
Me and my friends still play tatsunoko vs capcom on it. I love that game.
I think Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros Brawl are the worst in their series. The Wii is also home to the worst Metroid game as well. Still a fun console though. Still can't believe they brought back Punch Out and it was amazing. Hoping for a sequel on switch.
Brilliant library full of varied and great titles (hiding amongst piles and piles of shovelware).
The Wiimotes in retrospect were good when they were used well (Super Mario Galaxy controls like a dream) and having more freedom to move my arms around when holding a controller is something I never knew I wanted.
It's also extremely cheap to grab a used one and easy to softmod one and end up with a 50 dollar emulation machine effortlessly.
Only thing that really sucks about the Wii is lack of native HDMI support.
So. Dilbert was a self-insert. Why am I not surprised?
eh, imo SS was better
Unironically probably my favorite console of all time. The IR pointer absolutely made FPS/lightgun games and I'm incredibly sad we never got an FPS where you can independently aim akimbo with two Wii Remotes.
>hack my wii u
>use the new script to install gamecube games and wii games to the hard drive with forwarders on the main menu
>decide what games to install
>gamecube list ends up at 38
>wii list ends up at 20, and it was tough to make it to 20
kinda surprised how many more gamecube games I loved than wii ones. i always thought the wii had a decent library.
i'll never forgive it for being SD, so that all those games we could have had in HD still look like shit all these years later - Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade etc.
this is a good point. 3 major series where each of the games were pretty damn mediocre.
double dash was worse than wii, though. double dash was worse than cancer.
I really enjoyed Wii games but I could never get over the forced wagglan. Shit like DK's roll in DKCR really pissed me off.
It had some decent games and does great as a hackable emulation machine. But the games were saddled with its gimmick, changed Nintendo for the worse, changed Nintendo's fanbase for the worse, and honestly was one of the things that really changed the industry for the worse.
Double Dash wasn't cancer. It's been a while since I played but the two big problems with it was its dual-rider gimmick and the battle courses being incredibly boring (and NO BOMB KARTS), at least what I remember. MK Wii was a disaster in almost every way.
The absolute best GameCube emulator
>never touched a Wii to this day
Should I go get one?
It's the console that made me abandon Nintendo. I grew up a huge Nintendo fan but I haven't bought hardware since from them after the GCN/DS.
Is the Wii Shop or whatever still up and running? I missed out on a lot of gems on the Wii and I'd be interested in seeing if I can still download them cause I know finding physical copies is gonna be hell.
You won't be able to add Wii Points to your account after March 2018, with the channel shutting down in January 2019.
>Currently the last announced games on Wii are Let's Sing 2018 and Just Dance 2018 scheduled to release in October 2017
Post yfw the Wii outlived the fucking Wii U.
...
I'm a big Nintendo fan, but honestly Wii was pretty disappointing to me.
It had some dynamite exclusives(Galaxy 1&2, Xenoblade, DKC Returns) but as a whole, I felt the library was lacking.
One big thing that put me off was lack of third party stuff. I know Sup Forums likes to say multiplats don't matter much, but when your console misses out on Fallout New Vegas, GTA V, RDR, Dark Souls etc that is a BIG problem.
