Musou gets shafted like this when it comes to reviews. JRPG are usually assigned to people that plays and likes JRPG but musou gets assigned to normie/casual reviewers.

Pretty normal musou grades. Consistent message is that it's a stronger Hyrule Warriors so as far it goes that's a pretty ringing endorsement regardless of score.

If this game had characters from every game in the series, and the devs didn't outright lie in interviews I bet it would be rated higher.

FE is a meme series now though, They can release a remake of an NES game, barely change anything, and still get success.

It's an acquired taste. I don't mind the occasional musou game as playing a one man army slaying hordes of enemies is pretty damn satisfying, but I can see why people would hate the genre.

The fanservice aspect (which is almost as vital as the gameplay in a collaboration game of this kind) is utter shit compared to Hyrule Warriors.

To be fair, HW did some new things first so it gets the 'never seen this before' bonus. FEW improves upon it but it's been done before so it's not as 'new and exciting'.

It's a good Warriors that incorporates Fire Emblem gameplay elements particularly well. It's still a Warriors game though, so you know what to expect, i.e. the McDonalds of Japanese gaming.

The only reason Marth got in this game is because he is the main character of the first game in the series and Americans know him as "that guy from Smash".

Because it's a musou and FE game is the furthest thing from the musou genre. Most FE fans would not be playing this regardless. It's a game that appeals mostly to musou fans.

Those fans would rather play musou allstars, which scored lower in Japan according to famitsu but had a stronger day 1 (or so I heard anyways).
