So can anyone give me a non-shitpost rundown of how this game is.

Is the combat really as bad as the webm's make it look? I played gothic 1 + 2 back in the day but not sure i would be into similar combat now. What's the rest of the gameplay like? big world? stuff to explore/find? interesting quests/optional content?

It’s pretty gud. It’s got the same rhytmic combat of past PB titles, it works but the animations are definitely janky. World, loot and quests are your standard PB quality ie good. In terms of overall package, I’d rank it somewhere between Gothic 2 and Gothic 1, when compared to all the other PB titles.

I've been playing a lot of Dragon's Dogma recently and I've been wondering. Why does no one copy their combat system? imagine an interesting world and setting like Elex with actual proper combat?

its like gothic crossed with the new fallouts.
followers, karma system, stat based optional dialogue(the only good adoption).
and the worst of all quest markers. in a lot of the quests people dont even give directions "you just press z in the quest log and follow the arrow duh". the other stuff is fine i guess but the quest markers really deflated my nostalgia boner.

Why are you using quest markers to being with? Game can be played entirely without them, no one to blame but (You) for that one.

read the fucking post. it would be fine if quest descriptions or quest givers gave some directions but in lots of cases the dont.

If the game isn't giving you direction via dialogue or actual visuals and is instead just expecting you to simply follow the marker (with the other option being blindly running into the objective since you have no other means of sussing out where to go) that's a red flag for me.

Haven't played it yet, but this is what I took the other guy to mean.

Risen was also good but inferior to G3.

Hope this game holds up. The exploration in Gothic 3 was god tier.

This game is pretty hard but I'm liking it thus far. Reminds me of Dark Souls which I like.

I just pirated the game and i am strongly considering buying it.
I just checked the world map and it is massive.
I'll do 20 more hours and if i still like it i am getting it on GOG.

How expensive could it be to hire a college grad for graphic/ui/ux design? So many developers wing it and have the programmers design it and it looks god awful.

I'm really surprised with world, it's handmade, like Gothic 2 but it's massive.
Best thing is that it doesn't suffer from it like Gothic 3.

I fucking hate Steam

The story writing and dialog are some of the worst I have seen in a long time, it feels like there was about 100 different writers and not a single one of the communicated with each other. The physics are a joke, every time you jump in the air you look like a stiff piece of cardboard. Combat is absolutely horrendous, it feels like there is a small time delay between attacks, I put the game on "normal difficulty" and the amount of times I died because of what I can only assume are "low level mobs" was quite shocking. You run out of stamina within 2-3 swings of your weapon which leaves you completely open to attack because you cannot dodge when you have no stamina, you just have to stand there and take the hits. Parrying is completely useless, you take just as much damage from an enemy if you parry or not. Its also very hard to distinguish what you can loot or not, there was plenty of times I walked over to a gun or axe on the floor but I couldn't do anything with it, instead I had to use this crappy axe which did next to no damage to anyone. At the beginning I was given an option to search some ruins or carry on to the first town, of course you're going to search the ruins to hope to find better gear...right? No. Instead you find enemies that will basically one shot you, your only hope of survival is watching the NPC that is following you slay them like they are nothing while you cant even see their health bar deplete when you attack.

Would recommend people to stay away from this mess.
