same reason bioshock holds up
good art design and atmosphere

I didn't like how linear it was. I would've loved to go back and forth decks like in System Shock 2. But it's fine, I quite liked it anyway. The sequel was specially good.

Dead Space 2 was the first game I had the £40 to buy on release. Memories are flooding back, gonna replay it on PC soon. Talked with my best mate on XBL all night when I got it. Amazing game, completed it like 3 or 4 times. Severed DLC was also very good.

>How did they do it?
>Designers had to see car crash bodies to design the Necros
Plain talent and artistic vision I say.

RIP Ishimura you planet cracker, will miss ya

They made RE4 in space

>dead space 2 sell 4 millions
>fail to meet expectations

Well then, lower your expectations you retarded megalomaniacs.

I remember how this and Mirror's Edge made me believe there was hope for EA.

I 'member.

This shit stings. I understand the bitterness people feel towards EA for their developer culling now.

>can run DS1&2 @ 4K
>always blows me away how good it looks
I really need to play through the first game again. Ive played through 2 a bunch of times and I could still play it a bunch more

Fun Fact:

When you kill Robert in DS3 you can drag his body (or parts like this head) all the way to Ellie for her to then ask where's Robert. I know development can be rough to iron out flaws in story progrsssion but this is hillariously lazy.

Bad Company, Dead Space and Mirror Edge were a special time for EA. Shame they went back to their old ways.

Except that Dead Space 2 was better and it was never "horror"

>played ds1 demo when it first dropped
>never played full game
>got ds1 on origin and ds2 on steam but haven't played through either yet
>played through entirety of ds mobile game though

dont kill me pls

What are you waiting for then? Overwatch is always gonna be there for you to come back, you plebeian.

Playing through ds 1 for the first time after playing 2 and 3. Holy fuck these turret sections are a pain in the ass.

>Mfw playing it for the first time and catching that first split second glimpse of the Hive Mind on the horizon.

Read recently that shareholders were going fucking mental about that period in EA history so basically told them to cut it the fuck out and make what attracts the cash. Fucking bunch of rich old men dictating shit they have no knowledge about. Shareholders are quite possibly the worst people for entertainment on the planet. They do the same to film production companies, they do the same to music production companies. Just a bunch of bitter old men wanting their gibmedats.

bioshock doesn't hold up lmao. its linear tricks, gimmicks, and shit gameplay don't hold up and neither does the gay ass story. environmental storytelling has been done better both before and since bioshock and infinite revealed what a hack levine truly was and always will be

Is the Dead Space Pack on steam worth it? I only played up to the part after the meteor shooting in DS1 but that was maany years ago.

The only thing that irks me about Dead Space 2 is the combination of disappearing corpses and the fact you have to damage corpses to loot them, meaning you have to swerve around necromorphs that are still attacking you midway through a fight to go around hitting corpses so you don't lose their loot whilst you're dealing with the remaining live ones.

Did anyone else ever see this animated comic?
Its surprisingly good.

Amazing lighting, sound design and tight as fuck gameplay

I always just switched to mouse controls for that, zero hull damage taken.

Wait for a sale. Avoid giving money to EA as much as possible. It's not like any of the money is going to the original developers anymore.

Oh yeah and the weird bugs that sometimes occur when you don't use the fucking awful built-in vsync.

Reminds me of this :

>switch to mouse controls
Why would you not have mouse controls on in the first place?

Dead Space games generally aren't demanding / twitchy enough to warrant using a mouse and keyboard, so I played them from the couch.

>that 30FPS limit and input lag

youtube.com/watch?v=pOSUWFgLWGU

He is right again. is he, dare i say it /ourcuck/?

>still not knowing how to fix it

pcgaming wiki is the hero we don't deserve

Yeah, you don't use the awful built-in vsync.

This really sucks, I loved the first two games and the 3rd one was average. You can bet if they ever make DS4 it will be an online multiplayer FPS with loot boxes.

Fuck you EA.

thats more because it had no replay value and was a buggy piece of shit. the actual game was good but who thinks "boy, i sure feel like replaying bioshock"? no one

Dead Space 1 is the better of the two.

>The made a better RE4 with The Thing's concept, inspace

Fify

>shareholders were going fucking mental about that period in EA history so basically told them to cut it the fuck out
So EA didn't even have a chance? They start making properly fun games and the people with the money start bitching?

That's just sad.

Cash generate from game sales NEVER go to the original developer unless they are indie.

Buying Dead Space now puts just as much cash in the devs pocket as it did release day.

Playing the series for the first time (starting at the beginning) and have heard it's best to focus on about 3 weapons to upgrade or the rest don't get fully powered. What's Sup Forums's favorite weapons? I was thinking of doing the Line Cutter, but have heard mixed feelings about it. Plasma cutter or the rifle for a main weapon? I've also heard about a mysterious rupper weapon that is supposedly great too.

Old men ruling the world, nothing new under the sun.

>3 weapons
Incorrect.

If you want to make the game a bit easier, use the plasma cutter. It's by far the most balanced weapon in the game.
I finished 1 with only the plasma cutter and line gun.

It was great, I just wish the game's meta wasn't shooting everything's legs. IIRC headshots weren't worth it and you had to aim the neck instead? I get what they were trying, but still..

>steal every design decision from RE4
>hurr how did dey do et?

Pick whatever you want user, it's hard to go far wrong unless you're playing on hardcore and the plasma cutter is a reliable weapon in virtually every situation anyway. A lot of people like the force gun for its very wide knockdown.

...

>shooting everything's legs
Real men shoot one arm off, grab it with kinesis before it hits the floor and then hit the fucker with its own limb.

Did I remember that wrong? I'm really sure about the fact that shooting legs was far more efficient.
Doesn't change the fact that it was a great game anyway

is the irony in the fact that zappa wrote nothing amazing?

You shut your dirty little mouth now, user.

by amazing i mean innovative. he was just pop, his success was driven by the very thing he despised

Played DS1 the other week and yeah, I could only fully upgrade the damage on 4 weapons throughout the entire playthrough. That's not FULLY upgraded either, and I had to spend whatever spare money I had on power nodes. So I guess focusing on 3 weapons will let you upgrade them a bit more. I recommend the force gun and the line gun for fun. The plasma cutter is balanced for every situation except for when small enemies come out, force gun is your friend there. The ripper is also fun but it's pretty hard to use and can screw you over if you use it in group encounters unless you use stasis.

Plasma Cutter is reliable throughout the whole game.
And on PS3 (haven't played it on other platforms) you also get a gold trophy for only using that in the entire game, if you care about that stuff.

My personal favorite is the Ripper, though.
Cutting space-zombies apart with a saw is just fun to me, and it's pretty good for keeping enemies back when they get close. Although its slow ranged projectiles can be a weakness in terms of accuracy.

The game explicitly warns against using normal guns. Although I haven't actually ever given the rifle a try, so who knows, maybe the mechanics don't actually go with that warning.

I found the pulse rifle in 2 to be extremely efficient vs. the pack when you take tap-shots, plus it usually hits the body immediately after they die so they drop their loot without you having to run over and stomp them. Very useful for zealot mode when the ammo drops are stingy as fuck.

>That charge up.
>That power.
>That heat-venting when you reload.

UNF

>didn't really like this gun in the first game
>try it out in 2
>it instagibs enemies even if you aim for the torso

Right, I can imagine it's really damn effective against the kids. As I remember, they don't need to have their limbs severed like other necros so you can just shoot them however you like.

The rifle makes the game piss easy, granted i only played on normal.

Also I imagine it's the most cost-effective for removing exploding babbys / exploders since it only takes one hit and you get given like four or five times the amount of pulse rifle ammo as plasma cutter ammo.

>Sup Forums pretends it's old memes weren't cancer.gif

you're gonna wanna main the flamethrower, every time

Damn shame about the ammo though.

The joke is dead, long live the meme.

Too bad they have shit taste and can only get pleasure with money

BOOOOO

Yeah, that's a good point. Didn't think of that at all when I went through the game myself. Fuck.

>t: just watched Mandaloregaming's video on Dead Space, and I wanted to see people talk about it on Sup Forums

>They made RE4 smashed up with System Shock 2

It doesn't hold up stop that well
Through the entire game the only thing that happens is "thing jumps out of a vent that leads nowhere"
It's predictable

The mobile game is actually alright, but what the fuck are you waiting for play dead space

>better then most scifi games
Perhaps
>and horror games
Absolutely fucking not.

You're forgetting that 90% of horror games are trash though, being better than most isn't necessarily high praise.

You will get much better results trolling the comments of his songs on youtube, friend.

isn't Dead Space a comfy horror game?
how is that even possible?

it just works

The original Dead Space is the only good game that Visceral made. DS2 sucked because of all the cut scenes, voiced protagonist, shitty characters, shitty bosses, lack of puzzles, etc

4 u

I wish games still scared me.
My first run through dead space was pants shitting scary. I also had to stop playing dead space 2 an hour in out of terror.
After alien isolation I went back to DS2 and it wasn't scary at all.
