what's wrong with it, exactly?

I loved 3 and New Vegas, but haven't played this yet. I only notice people shitting on it all the time.

It's a really enjoyable game. I liked it a lot, but for completely different reasons than why I loved NV and 3. It feels better to play, but don't expect much immersion beyond graphics. Go play it and have fun, user

>Bethesda
>graphics

it's an awesome game, go play it

don't ask too much around here... dumbasses praise that piece of shit Divinity OS

dont buy it, pirate it

How do you kill the Sarge robot? This shit is unkillable.

Crazy, right? First Bethesda game where I liked the graphics. They aren't amazing at all, but the game looks decent

Trust me, fallout 4 is the best game in the franchise yet, You really should play it. I think it's much better than that awful new vegas game.

Don't let other people tell you if a game is bad or not.

Pirate it for an hour or two and see if its worth playing more, then go buy it. Its on sale right now I think on steam.

I bought the game when it came out after testing it(to make sure my shity desktop would run it) and luckly enough my brother bought me the season pass. Love the game, its fun.

you actually do the standard military babysitter shit, like right click to zoom in and then left click to 'shoot'

its a theme park for even dumber people

in other words fallout 3, but instead of exploration you get shooty shit

just like skyrim, to get the most fun out of it, you have to avoid using the crafting system to make weapons- crafted weapons are better than anything you can find, and thus the fun of trying out new item drops is lost

The main story is irredeemably shit. Apart from that, it's fine for what it is.

youtube.com/watch?v=2kRRYgf54oM

Thanks man, I just bought it on PSN.

You evil bastard

and don't tell Todd

Still the same engine user you can't go wrong, now with ssao bloom and dof.

>Don't let other people tell you if a game is bad or not.

This. But its objectively bad for being a supposed 'RPG,' and the combat elements are totally mediocre like every other Fallout game. It's only good for exploration until you realize than unlike other Bethesda games, there's literally nothing interesting inside all the places you explore

People think the plot is stupid and the new features, like the customizable guns and buildable settlements, are much worse than the features they replace.
They're completely correct but I wound up enjoying it on some level anyway. Just turn your brain off and you might find it fun.

Also the DLCs are, as usual, better than the base game, so make sure you obtain them as well

It's an OK first person shooter, but a horrifically bad role playing game.

>what's wrong with it, exactly?
>I loved 3
oh youll be fine with 4.

Shit graphics, shit gameplay, shit story , shit characters, shit guns , shit game

If you loved 3 and NV you'll most likely enjoy 4. I've had an amazing time with every game in the series, but I'm not your typical autist and attempt to enjoy a game solely for the experience it provides.

>shit opinion

STOP RIGHT FUCKING THERE!

t. odd

It objectively improved upon every aspect of fallout 3 and NV except for the writing and dialogue.

...

He might not, funnily enough, and here's why:
Why are there so many pipe weapons despite 3 having more?
Why is the plot & lore a babbling mess of incoherence that stops 90% of any potential role-playing you could have in a fucking role-playing game unlike 3?
Why is the dialogue tree cut butchered to pieces from fallout 3?
Why are you given incredibly overpowered armor and made to fight off a deathclaw in the first half an hour of the game?
Why are skills removed, further fucking over the role-playing potential and limiting playstyles?
Why is Charisma the only stat that matters when talking to someone, what happened to the other SPECIAL stats being used in that like in 3?
Why is base-building so fucking unpolished & ultimately pointless?
Why is Diamond City, the only settlement worth a damn, a wretched piece of shit when we know better can be done?
There you fucking go, plenty of reasons why Fallout 4 is terrible without ever referring to New Vegas.

>New Vegas
>lets you wander wherever you want
>has an NPC that warns you not to go to particular area
>go to area
>get raped by deathclaws
>go 60+ hours without being able to fight them
>finally beat them
>feel like the most triumphant motherfucker

>Fallout 4
>deathclaw appears
>here have this gigantic robot suit
>kill it within seconds
>oh btw these robot suits are everywhere have fun

Todd might understand visual appeal, but he'll never understand tension, or build-up to being a powerful motherfucker. I have a suspicion he was one of those people that had the build-up fly right over his head, and instead probably just used cheats to be powerful from the beginning.

>Why are there so many pipe weapons despite 3 having more?
Meant to write
>despite 3 having more variety in weapons?

The game is good, but not great. For me they nailed the gameplay, but I just could not care about the story half-way through. I feel like Bethesda has problems making interesting stories that make the player care about what happens.

He's probably one of those people who get frustrated at a game when they don't beat it on the first try, then just cheat in everything, think it's fun and drop the game 2 days later and call it 'just ok'

>lets you wander wherever you want
literally stopped reading right there
fucking retarded NV cucks

it's a good game as long as you know what to expect from it. basically, it's a good action/adventure game. roaming around and fighting dudes is pretty good, and the only major complaint i had with the game was some numbers problems with the balance; one mod fixed that. i think it's the strongest game Bethesda has made in recent memory, simply because the basic gameplay loop is engaging and rewarding enough to keep me entertained without having to heap a billion mods on top of it. even then, however, the story is poorly done in virtually every way and building a character is kind of lame; building your equipment and base is much more interesting.

i might be in the minority on this, but i also think the DLC was actually worth it. Bethesda i think is one of the few companies that generally does large, meaningful additions to their games--for the most part, anyway. obviously horse armor was not a good example of this, but every game since Morrowind has had at least one and sometimes two very large additions after the fact. FO4 has Nuka World and Far Harbor, but i think my favorite DLC is Automatron because i can build robots.

It's a good FPS game.
It's an awfull Fallout game.

>Let's make a RPG but take out the role playing

also the story isn't great

Whoever was behind the quest for the deathclaw in the church should have had creative control for every quest in the game.

This is bait right?

not him but here, i made a list of shit wrong with the game that never refers to new vegas

ok mate, i will give it a try
ill pirate it of course

Good, I'm glad you agree. Would you be interested in buying the New Game of the Year Edition of Fallout 4?

It fucks me up famula

I couldnt really pin it down for the longest time but now Im pretty sure that I hate it because it reeks of a duct tape job. One user mentioned that its just a modified skyrim, and skyrim being a modded oblivion. I do appreciate some of its features. but in very glaring ways, no matter how pretty the godrays are, it plays like a lemon.

Granted, mods do fix it. Thats always been the truth about these games, but I didnt realize how bad bethesdas games had it.

Don't you fucking dare.

It is a fun experience with mods, that's for sure. But the forced drama of looking for your son was so cringey i had to install alternate start within the first 15 minutes of olaying vanilla. It is also l more of an fps with added rpg mechanics than anything. There isn't even a a level cap so you can be good at everything. Seriously though the game is good for modding but trash for everything else

>Shit writing
>Dialogue options are yes, maybe yes, sarcastic yes, and more info yes
>Your choices between factions are google executives, power armor nazis, liberal faggots, and another settlement

The power armor is okay, the glowing sea is a pretty cool area that I wish had a bit more to see, the shooting is the closest to actually playing a shooter so far. Settlement building is okay, better with mods (weightless junk, sim settlements, and place anywhere are probably must haves) and weapon and armor customization is alright. I kinda like how you have to keep power armor repaired and fueled.

...

>3 having more variety in weapons

That's downright pathetic if true. 3's weapon variety already pretty much boiled down to "pistol, shotgun, SMG, assault rifle, and a unique named variant of each". If 4 managed to be even worse...holy shit Bethesda is lazier than I thought.

>customizable guns and buildable settlements, are much worse than the features they replace
what kinda weapon customization was better than what's in 4? even across all games.
I found the weapon crafting to be very satisfying. the progression; i felt like i was getting better weapons up to a point.

It's even more laughable against Fallout 4 when you include Point Lookout

thanks for the feedback, guys.
I'll probably get goty edition, then. I'm not terribly picky and can definitely enjoy things for what they are, so I'm sure I'll like it.
Plus the buildable settlements/robots mechanic sounds extremely cool.

I'll agree with you there. Its not an RPG.

Best get it on sale if you're stupid enough to buy it

I think Fallout 4 is the first Bethesda Fallout game where they actually managed to flesh out the franchise with some original ideas that are interesting. Like the glowing sea was really interesting as one user mentioned.

The power armor in FO4 is also the coolest in the franchise, and this is me speaking as a FO1 & 2 fanboy. I do not like the fusion cores, but the armor itself with modifications and stuff is crazy cool.

Survival mode is pretty fun. Also great settlement building time waster. Don't expect a rpg though.

i also got the goty edition. to be fair it was also the only available on piratebay

>New Vegas
>Wiki where to get the enclave armor
>Abuse stimpaks in the mine where the helmet is
>Snipe deathclaws with missiles from afar for armor

>FO4
>Have to complete 90% of a lvl 30+ dlc to get Quantum X-01, or be filthy fucking rich to afford all the ammo + healing for the grand tour
>Alternatively get the best armor from the CC, which sucks more than T-45 at lvl 1 and is balanced to the point that you have to max Arnorer to get it to be a bit better than X-01

>I love fallout 3
Aged like milk

I joked Todd
I bought steam account acces for literally 1 dolarydoos at release and it still works

I put a lot of time into it, but:

It lacks immersion, all the way around, the settlement system and how trite it is really hurt this, for me. The writing is BAD, there is only one or two quests that'll put you in the mind of even Fallout 3 shenanigans, let alone 2 or FNV.

The settlement system WITH ENOUGH MODS, can be fantastic, and in fact, could probably be it's own game, but, it fucking wrecks any sense of immersion (as I said) or roleplaying the character you are.

It's a good game, worth the price, and worth the time to modify, it could've been much, much more, though.

FO4 has no weapon customization, only weapon upgrading.

All the quests are shit, all of them.

>Different barrels that change the way a weapon works, sometimes to the point that it can become a mid or long range rifle, an auto rifle, a shotgun or a flamer (plasma gun)
>Even has different types of stocks for different situations

Depends on the weapon, but they look pretty customizable to me

except you can't wear the armor without power armor training in NV, and you can only get the power armor training by being friendly with the BoS near the super mutant base ( black hill i think ? )

while in FO4 you can immediately use the power armor ( make sense if you play the male character because ex-US army soldier, make no sense at all if you play female character because she is supposed to be a simple lawyer )

And there's a shitton of good weapon mod, mods that further enhance customization.

I think being able to turn a double-barrel shotgun into a mini-shot-gun that shoots frost enhanced rockets is pretty customizeable.

It's fun. But that's about it.

I'm replaying it for the first time since launch. I wasn't a fan of it then, but I'm basically just playing through as if it was an open world shooter rather than an RPG and it makes it a lot more fun.

That said, pirate it. Don't buy it.

The most essential mod is to add more songs to the radio, because the music in 4 is absolute garbage.

Visually I never had a problem with 4, but everything else in it feels like a one big joke.

>make no sense at all if you play female character because she is supposed to be a simple lawyer
I don't get why they don't just say that they were both soldiers, depending on who you play as.

If you are a fool without a VPN or private tracker, be careful. Zenimax has been flagging people recently.

Yes and it was piss-easy to get. Im not saying FO4's is difficult to get in any way, but i'd personally trade having to train how to put metal pajamas on for actual armored exo-skeletons any day. Also the early ones break all the time, the amount of times i've come back to Sanctuary hauling the broken pieces of plating and the rest bashed to shit from a scavenging run became pretty immersive in their own way. Why they didn't keep both the exo-skeleton design and the training is beyond me, desu

A good way to balance it I think would be like, efficiency and skills related to repairing it, and specifically it. (Obviously this would extend to upgrades as well.)

Everything related to power armor, it's use, repair, upgrade crafting and such should be wildly separate skills to the rest beyond what science, chemistry and thus intelligence would be required.

PA training was Bethesda’s making. There was no such thing in OG Fallouts,

Yep, or having [insert faction's mechanic-type character here] do it for a steep price.

>Yes and it was piss-easy to get
If you use a guide and know exactly where it is and how to use it, yeah, of course it's fucking easy.

Heh, maybe in america. I torrent almost anything just because i can, no one give a shit.
Also, in my country i can say that my wifi was unprotected and (((they))) can suck my uncut dick.

If you want an open world shooter with a settlement building sim on the side then Fallout 4 can give you what you're looking for. If you want an RPG you will be disappointed. There are no meaningful different ways to "build" your character, the writing and dialogue is a complete joke, and there are no interesting side quests in the entire game world.

I can use a guide to try to get the Nuka-World one, but unless i glitch the glass enclosure it won't change the fact that the laser turrets fuck you up even on normal difficulty, let alone survival. The vanilla X-01 is guarded by a couple of instant-spawning bots

There is loot everywhere, it does not feel like you are in a post apocalyptic world.
The legendary attributes of weapons/gear seems like something they decided to add on at the last minute.
The survival mode would be nice if the game was designed around it, but this is also something they added after the game was finished.
And finally you just can’t feel any attachment for androids. What does it matter if a machine dies or not if you can plug in an usb stick in it an transfer its personality to another host.

Should I buy Fallout 4 for 15 bucks or the DLC to new Vegas for like, 12? I feel I'd get way more out of Fallout 4.

>go to one of 4 type of dungeon
>kill 6-10 or something ghouls, raiders or mutants
>find some caps, a grenade, some random ammo and a pipe gun in a big steamer treasure trunk

it's shit
not as shit in the shooting department as the last games, (though melee is a lot worse) but not actually good in any way shape or form

>what's wrong with it, exactly?
Oh, nothing, we weren't serious during those hundreds of threads explaining you why. We're going to be honest now, though, you stupid idiot.

i don't know whether to laugh or cry at the fact that they're about to drop VR's first triple A title and from what some have reported, it's hot garbage being released as a stand-alone full-priced game instead of a half-priced mod. it doesn't utilize VR's potential well at all and this is what VR's first-comers are waiting for; an incomplete full-priced ripoff of an experience.

thanks Todd for killing my dreams of ever seeing VR taking off.

>I loved 3

AHHHHHHHAJAHAJAAHAHAHA

NV DLC is really good but you can just pirate it by putting the .esp files into the game’s data folder if you don’t want to pay for it.
Come to think of it you could just pirate Fallout 4 too.

new vegas DLC are pretty nice especially when played in release order. they print you nearly unlimited free supplies and money for the base game and add some powerful perks.

It's not very good honestly, especially in comparison to the level of depth New Vegas had.

FO4 is more like a third person shooter with shallow RPG mechanics. There isn't much in terms of character building, and the dialogue options only give you the illusion of choice. What you say and do doesn't actually have much impact -- you get two ways of finishing most quests; being "good", or being a dick for no reason. Being "neutral" nets the same outcome as good, I'm not going to give credit for that shit.

So you never really feel like you're crafting a story around your character, or actually playing any significant role in the world. You're basically just going along for the ride, every potential outcome is already determined for you. You either pick heads or tails, there is no complexity to anything.

There are some good improvements though. I like the new modding and crafting systems, and the general mechanics have been polished pretty well. You can sprint now using AP, you don't have to pause the game to loot containers, radiation lowers your maximum HP, VATS only slows time down, and combat builds in general are far more flexible than before.

But then Bethesda decided to revert most of the other improvement that Obsidian made. Speech checks are percentage based again, there are no skill checks, the new perk system is fucking obnoxious, stimpaks can't be applied to specific limbs, no multiple ammo types, no settlement reputations or faction disguises, and some other shit I'm forgetting to mention, I'm tired of writing at this point.

Only other thing worth mentioning is the meaningless settlement system. Crafting settlements is a major feature in the game, but there's barely any incentive to do it in the first place. Unless you want to obtain passive crafting resources (food, and possibly fertilizer), or become a purified water merchant, the whole system is fucking pointless. I'd rather have real roleplaying instead.

people get butthurt expecting an old school rpg but it's is a great action adventure game with fun gameplay and the best post-nuclear aesthetic of any fallout imo

Went in with very low expectations because of how shit FO3 was and was pleasantly surprised. Story and dialogue kind of suck, but that goes for Fallout 3, too. Gunplay, enemies, world design, and exploration are the best of the three. Looks pretty nice for a Bethesda game and is remarkably stable and bug-free. Just know it's more of an FPS with RPG elements than an RPG with FPS elements.

Also, because fuck creation club.

>and the best post-nuclear aesthetic of any fallout imo
t. never played fallout 1

Best gameplay in the series

Worst story in the series

Reposting my comment from last nights thread.

>"It's a good game, just not a good Fallout game."
-me (from the other thread)

Terrible game, only fallout ive ever finished was new Vegas and that was way back when it just came out. I got to diamond city and just couldn't continue.

This, give Obsidian the engine and call it a day.

Where am I gonna find the .esp's my dook?

I don’t know, I bought the Ultimate Edition.
You can probably get them on a torrent site though.

>Entire story and 25% of side quests revolves around Synths
>NEVER even fucking ATTEMPTS to explain what the purpose of Synths is

It's step back in every way except for graphics and gameplay.

...

Lob a couple of frag grenades, then empty your gun. Or, if you have automatron, made Ada into a killing machine; I didn't have to do anything my second time. I just sent Ada ahead, and she wrecked Sarge.

The dialogue is top notch.

ye and you get it 20 minutes ingame and fight a deathclaw!!!

>meet your son
