Top players largely don't take online matches seriously and most people put on a front for streams.

SFIV was fine, Focus Attack was a nice comprise for the universal parry system though they fucked up by having some Focus Attacks clearly far and above other ones.

with most characters you really don't need to use their 1f links. some characters have 3f links in their bnb, but outside of like e ryu, sakura, and a few others you can really get by without that shit.

if you're okay at spacing there are plenty of characters you can play footsies until you catch your opponent slipping and combo into ultra. most of the reason i was ever decent at ssf4 was because chun-li was so mechanically easy outside of lightning legs.
