Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

Can we talk about this game, Sup Forums? I just finished, I thought it was way more fun than expected. What do you think of it?

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Shitty Combat.

Beat the game with 70 or so hours. Legendary gear is locked behind loot boxes. There is no way to consistently get purple orcs

I'm almost finished. The story's awful, the new characters are all bad. I miss Lithariel. Things feel way less focused than the first game. The collectibles were a fucking chore.

but gameplay's vastly improved, and the "you have no choice but to purchase lootboxes because it's too hard" was just another game-journo meme, so that's cool.

overall it's good I guess. I think more than anything, I wish you didn't have to go into the menu to switch abilities.

Minasu Morgulu

Finished it in about 60-70 hours, I think it was pretty good. Had a ton to do and the nemesis system is great, especially with those unexpected comebacks and random orcs saving you.

Keep going user, there's a pretty cool twist at the end!

So I wanted to liberate an outpost but the fucking captain got away. Now I can't liberate it forever? There is no mission icon popping up at the outpost. I tracked the captain down elsewhere, but the outpost is still not liberated.

Buy it on sale just like the 1st game.
/thread

You don't liberate outposts, if the active captain is dead/your guy then alarms no longer get triggered in that zone. Other than that nothing changes.

I heard you can use cheat engine to get the silver coins. I don't think they do anything other than upgrade gear/siege items.

The area is still red.

Better red than dead right amigo?

Yeah, you can probably just mark that orc that got away and kill him, but all that happens is you no longer trigger alarms. IMO not worth wasting your time. You do mean outposts, and not fortresses right?

>Recruit a Poet and a Literate One.
>Poet betrays me and holds Literate One hostage.
>Calls the Literate One a critic as he slits his throat.
Clearly there's only room for one gud talkin orc.

I like it, not worth 60USD but I like it.The only thing frustrating is that the parkour near smaller ramps when you're in the middle of a fight is absolutely dogshit. Otherwise the difficulty is sound, except when three orcs, an olog and two blood brothers decide to ambush you all at the same time, all doing their cut in dialogue right after one another. Very badly rigged RNG.

>okay guys, let's create a video game based on a universe filled with richness, and an abundance of lore and characters and make it a LETTHEBODIESHITTHEFLOOR Orc-killing simulator

Embarrassing.

Yeah. I did the "draw out the outpost leader by killing xy" thing.mission He arrived, started to retreat, I was unable to chase him. Now there is no mission icon poping up.

I killed him at the other side of the map, but the outpost area is still red. meh

Weird, dunno about that. Either way, it is really not a big deal especially since you'll be peacing out of the region eventually.

Is he still dead on the army screen? You may need to wait for his corpse to disappear so the captain in question isn't cheating death or otherwise coming back before another captain is selected for the outpost.

A lot of things obviously changed from the original e3 demo (mainly the graphics) but im curious about one of the enemies. In the demo he is a Necromancer class, but I havent seen any of those in the game yet. Do they exist or were they taken out?

>never get to see the nemesis system because the game is easy as shit and you never die

its a trait some orcs can have of being able to raise the dead. there's a quest line where you fight a specific one too.

This. I'm near the end of Act 2 and I haven't died since the beginning of the game when I was suiciding to orcs so I could make them into legendary captains. There is absolutely no way you can die if you don't feel like it. It just doesn't happen.

As a result, the game is boring and shitty. I thought Nemesis was going to be the answer to the biggest problem with the first game, but they fucked up AGAIN.

How's multiplayer? or whatever their online system is?

Cheat engine

the taunts start to hurt after a while ; _ ;

Is anyone else getting weird crackling or popping in the audio?

Yeah, I don't believe you at all. What difficulty are you on?

Little things like that are really well done in this game, like I had troll brothers named really similarly attack me, and later a third brother attacked because I killed his family

How many fucking times do I have to shame a fucker to get rid of Iron Will?

Goddamnit

How many hours of grinding or lootboxes did you need to finish?

How do they even have brothers if they're all born from ooze pits?

Honestly, none. Haven't spent a cent on lootboxes and I breezed through act 4. You just have to be not trash at fortress defense

Here's several tips for people just getting into it that I wish I knew myself:

>Do NOT bother leveling up your orcs or even helping them with their personal missions - it all ends up being pointless in the endgame as your forts start getting sieged by max level orcs which you can just directly recruit in quantities of 10-15 defeated orcs per fort siege
>Do not bother going out of your way to collect special loot either as those same maxed orcs will directly drop you the endgame items and the only time they'd be useful for you is for those fort sieges as they are actually somewhat hard
>Don't bother doing the extra objectives because you'll have far more skill points than you'll ever need, don't use the +exp% gems either

As for general playstyle, you should:

>Get a bow which has more than 10 arrows and a 30%+ chance to poison/curse/set on fire enemies on headshots, preferably get 3 of them with the 3 different effects
>Get that one ranged skill which allows you to stay even more time slowed down in the air
>Your point is now to completely avoid melee, find a tall place, jump from it and enter slow down mode, unload your arrow clip into headshots and proceed to run around and collect more arrows from the environment to keep doing it until everyone's dead
>Get that one skill which allows you to teleport with the bow to the target and directly drain him and use the combination of the mid-air headshots and this to take every single captain in the game
>Get a good dagger in case he's immune to arrows and learn to backstab->vanish somewhere high->drop down and backstab again

As for gear, dont complete any legendary set bonuses because they're all trash and focus on individual item abilities, like poison on headshot or arrows on stealth kill or similar shit. Red gems go into armors and sword/dagger, green gem goes into bow for HP leech and ring gets a white one

>Yeah, I don't believe you at all
That's your problem. If I run into a captain, it either dies or I just leave. There is nothing that can stop you from dodge spamming if you're surrounded, or just climbing on top of shit to get away. Fuck you can even summon a fucking caragor to just ride away on if you want. The ONLY way you could possibly die is if you are fighting on your last sliver of health and a orc with no last chance shows up and kills you - and since they always announce themselves in an ambush, that's not really going to happen.

>What difficulty are you on?
Jesus Christ user, try to keep up.

t. user playing on easy

ok...I'm dumb, when I recruit orcs during sieges they literally do not show up anywhere, not on my army map...where the fuck are they?

>I'm shit at games
>therefore you must be as well

The worst aspect of talking about this game is that it brings out all the shitters that believe they get to have an opinion.

>implying batman combat is hard

The difficulty only come into play with you throw yourself into stupid situations on purpose, which shouldn't happen because you have so many options to deal with everything. So yeah, its completely believable to not die, on any difficulty.

Tried it but damn it seems to be complete cinematic 40 hours cutscene press x for epic combat simulator. I tried to explore around in hope to find something like a chest but nah. It's literally empty, you can't even destroy barrels or shit. Also the AI seems to be about as smart as a rock since they get completely stumped how I vanished behind a fucking tree or simply don't see me out in the open in broad fucking daylight. This wasn't worth the 90 something gigabyte.

What? They do show up, at least after the siege ends. What I personally do is press escape after possessing them to let them fight with me, maybe you're bugging the game if you're telling them to retreat. Or maybe you had all slots filled up with orcs before the siege and there's simply no room for them. I don't know but I can confirm for certainty that they *should* appear

They're blood brothers not actual brothers

They are the rarest orcs in game, other than the story ones of course

you don't need to be blood related to love someone like a brother

Do they just betray you randomly? Never had it happen yet

Are you talking about online sieges? because the orcs don't come back with you

In the first game do Orcs always call in reinforcements or something, every time I get into a fight with a single captain another five show up.

If you treat them like shit or kill their blood brother, or get humiliated, or they just feel like it. When they betray you they gain iron will and you have to shame them into a gibbering pile of uselessness if you want them back

when you say "all slots filled up" do you mean followers you've assigned to help you siege or protect a fort? or do you mean just randomly open slots in the army menu in general?
offline campaign sieges

You can literally get everything with silver. And if you focus on using either of the three legendary sets the game throws at you and trash everything else you will have more silver than you know what to do with

>If you treat them like shit
Like attacking them for the keks?

I mean just the army menu slots. When you recruit a new orc he should occupy one army slot, correct? Well which one would he occupy if there's none?

Good to know. I never would have thought that EA would let you use in game currency on their microtransactions.

Yep

Or sending them on missions they can't win, not rescuing them if they get captured
shit like that

tfw his brother is both on his face and on the ground

Just finished Act 4. Do we know what we are getting with the season pass? Those forts that are still red and inaccessible on the map? New regions? I want to lead the charge to Minas Tirath and start dominating humans.
I don't even care about the story anymore. Just unleash me into the world with even more races and classes to subjugate

the games never really "hard", but i died several times because i always rushed to fuck around and go for hard regions instead of doing boring ass story quests
>lvl 40 orc with no chance
>accidentally get hit once and die instantly

holy fuck I want this so bad
>nazgul Talion goes out enslaving people in the name of Sauron

not him, but doesn't the existing orc have a slot already? Can't he occupy the one he had before you turned him?

Does it still have the free executions/stealthkills/slowdowntime skills from the first game?
Can you get orcs to be a challenge without purposely dying to them a few times?

Is there a mod yet that makes certain abilities passive? Its pretty bullshit having to give up domination for quicker drain or what have you.

No, in the late game sieges your fort gets swarmed with 20-25 leaders, all of which you can recruit (considering they dont have the Iron Will perk) so he probably filled up his slots with orcs and can't convert any of the invading ones

I almost agree but c'mon, you don't want to make the game easier do you.

>Does it still have the free executions/stealthkills/slowdowntime skills from the first game?
Yes but you see them much less frequently
>Can you get orcs to be a challenge without purposely dying to them a few times?
Really depends how you play. I think most people will end up with a handful of orcs that are an absolute bitch to kill, while the rest are somewhere in the middle.
I just had the final warchief I had to kill in the story be so had to kill I had to just give up the control point and fall back then roast him with a drake because of all the traits he had

Just started playing on hard mode and if I stop paying attention I can find myself getting bopped pretty gokd.

How far into the game do you have to get to unlock your orc army? I'm in the second area and I met up with gollum.

you have to complete the first act

>Always forget to check blood brother statuses
>Every fucking time I end up killing a blood brother of someone I already turned and have a betrayal

Fug, how many acts are there

Get the ring back Talion
Don't be a fucking idiot Talion

Is there an actual final boss fight or is it still a QTE?

The Legend is the best Legendary title.

it's really sad how retards keep financing these abysmally awful games

>implying

do you actually believe anyone here bought this game especially when it was cracked day 1

see:

>he can't afford to support good games

I don't want to believe that but there's so many morgalfags on Sup Forums there's no way to be sure anymore

No i have principles so i did not buy it, and i'm just too lazy to pirate it.

>find a legend
>fight him
>crap, got to qte
>oh shit, no chance given
>well, at least he'll grow stronger and I'll get him later
>suddenly, mysterious saviour appears and chops his head off
I am sure this shit happens intentionally on legend orcs to force you to lootbox them

i can afford to support good games, why are you saying i can't

>100GB
lmao wat

Fuck off Mister Marketer

There are so many legendary orcs thrown at you in the end-game.
Also
>not upgrading your favorite and most storied orcs to legendary and making them your overlords
wtf

>get to completely new area
>captain ambushes me after just 30 seconds later
>only chance to kill is to jump over and chain attacks
>adapts
>fuck
>eventually kills me
>random orc rushes in and chops his head off
>shouts "HAHA DIDN'T EXPECT THAT DID YA" and runs off
>mfw

>No Nemesis Caragors
Shame, I've died to them the most

>"Another disgusting beast to put down"
>"And he's riding a Caragor!"

It's significantly smaller than a game like the witcher 3, and witcher 3 was only 20 gigs. They did a piss poor job of compression

The Witcher 3 didn't have half an hour of 4k cutscenes

>Execute an Olog captain, think nothing of him.
>Comes back covered in stitches, new nickname is the Stitch. Is now Legendary and much tougher than before.
>Yells about how dying was the best thing that ever happened to him while he tries to pummel me.
My new pet.

Play on hard and wait for level 40+, you'll get farmed consistently to such an extent that you'll refuse to get into a melee combat and do this instead All it takes is a single curse/poison hit and you're done. Just one.

the 4k cutscenes are in a seperate pack on steam, and that still doesn't excuse lack of compression

Question, who here is playing on mkb over controller, what do you prefer, which feels better?

I'm basically done with the game but I wish this was a thing. I'm guessing they balanced it like this for the online garbage? Pretty retarded if that's the case, it doesn't prevent you from using those abilities it just requires you fiddling with a menu to use them.

Mkb is better, you get a far better aim and you don't have to slug the selector from one edge of the screen to the other. Also the controls are quite simple and restricted to just a few keys

>Act 1
>game is too easy
>"yeah but it gets harder!"
>Act 2
>game is too easy
>"yeah but it gets harder!"
>Act 3
>game is too easy
>"yeah but it gets harder!"

So I need to waste my time with the boring slog that is the first 2/3 of the game, because bad players assure me that it most definitely turns a fucking 180 and becomes a completely different experience - despite the fact that at that point I will have more tools at my disposal than I had at the beginning of the game.

Thanks for the advice, Mr marketer.

If you don't get the hd and 4k pack the game is only 60gb you retard

prove it

It's so you aren't overpowered you dipshit
