too much gameplay

The game's first impressions suffered a lot because it didn't have the fast forward button on release, and the art style on the 3DS was a bit of a turn-off for some people. Also heard some people complaining it was too hard, but i didn't struggle too much.

>tfw no Katherine doujins ever

Art style immediately turned off most players. Setting was uninteresting to 90% of people, including most Americans who have no clue who the fuck the characters are. The coin gathering was tedious fluff. Challenge came from never-ending reinforcements instead of strategic maps.

On the plus side, it probably showed Ubisoft a lot of what not to do with Mario + Rabbids.

It was actually a really clever little strategy game.

>First four chapters of the game are the worst parts of the entire game, especially when aiming for the gears.
>No fast forward button before the patch and even with the patch it feels like it takes far too long.
>Enemy overwatch lasts forever and never stops on top of them being pinpoint accurate but you require Steam to do it and it barely does any damage on top of rarely hitting the idiots.
>Infinitely respawning enemies made the entire thing just awful, especially the first two chapters where your only way of healing is limited medkipts on the map.
>Those eyeballs that will randomly teleport next to you and your choices are to run out of cover and get slaughtered by overwatch, hope you have enough Steam to make it out of its range into a safe zone, or hope no other enemy notices you as you run away (The first stage they're introduced has enemies that can one-shot you).
>That one level where you have the generator on the left side, three infinitely respawning snipers, and teleporting eyeballs that can mortar you and if you get close to the generator it will mortar you the next turn.

Bad press and the art style triggered weebs.

Damn shame, because it's a great game, easily in the top tier of IS' library.

Nailed it. Fuck this game.
>On the plus side, it probably showed Ubisoft a lot of what not to do with Mario + Rabbids.
Pretty much this.

I'm not even opposed to everything that isn't game related such as the aesthetic, setting, etc. That's all fine, but people are acting like this is the fucking "white hair Dante/Donte" of the game, when really, anyone who has legit criticism and complaints of the game is grouped into the group of these dipshits.

Soundtrack is pretty badass too.

>What went wrong?
not enough mario

Post Teams
Queequeg, Tiger Lily, Randolph Carter, The Fox

I just rotated a lot, but i really liked Lion, Scarecrow, Tinman and Henry

>Codename S.T.E.A.M.
>it's not on Steam

No enemy turn FF at launch caused 30-60sec enemy turns

Shitty art style

Made characters of American literature look dumb

>Challenge came from never-ending reinforcements instead of strategic maps.
t. shitter that takes WAY to long to finish a map.
Reinforcements start spawining if you're really fucking slow. You're really not in the position to complain about lack of strategy.

>I suck and it's the games fault
No wonder game journalists gave it shit scores.

...

>Reinforcements start spawining if you're really fucking slow.
In the Queen escort mission they start respawning in like three turns, and if you want the gears you not only need to clear out every room with enemies that can kill anyone that isn't Lion in two attacks but then deal with those assholes singling out characters who you had to split up in order to safely do the escort and get the gears after they respawn. It's not like you can move far either in a turn, it's either 4 steps and getting to shoot once or something like 7 steps total.

The same deal applies to I think the second stage of the first chapter, you have these gears spread across the map in completely different directions and after you get to about the middle of the stage which takes about two or three turns since there's three spider things at the top, two where you start (With the black guy on the crates), and then another three in the fields, the spiders behind you will start respawning.

It's not based on how long it takes you to beat a stage, it's based on how many turns have passed since you last killed the guys. The snipers in the generator level respawn every two turns and they can kill you in two attack, so if you don't have a way to kill them and then immediately have a back crew to get to the generator to shoot if you're dying in the next turn.

Fox Califia Tinman always, 4th depending on the map, Queequeg if open field, Tom or Lion if it's needed a scout, Randolph or Scarecrow if there are mortars.
Dorothy is shit.

Shitty artstyle turned people off. It even affected other games.

Dorothy was only really good for killing turrets and keeping the eye things away, yeah. At least she was useful in the third-to-last stage since it was close quarters + turrets everywhere.

Barely got to use Stovepipe too, since my 3DS died on me before i could play Hard Mode. Was pretty mad when it turned out you need to beat the game in addition to the coins in order to unlock him.

You make it sound like hell but I don't remember those chapters giving any problem. In fact the game was too easy, I had to refrain from using save points, that could even refill your health and bring back the dead.
Also, if you are this guy enemies are bound by steam too during overwatch, the game doesn't cheat. And the eyeball stages are easily trivialized when you find out that pumpkins and bombs block their view.
You just sound bad.

The art is good, and is some of the best in Heros.

>one of my high school teachers (who taught US history) awhile back talked about this game and brought up Califia specifically
I'm genuinely surprised he even knew about the game in the first place. Then again, he played Red Dead Redemption, so he's pretty based.

>but I don't remember those chapters giving any problem
Because you didn't go for gears most likely. If you're incorporating that into your plan you need to split your teams up, the spiders kill your characters incredibly quickly, and it's not like anyone at the start that's not Lion deal any decent damage. It takes two turns for blonde guy to kill anything even if it's point blank unless you crit and black guy can one-shot at point blank but he needs enough steam to do it if he's not using his grenade launcher. With Lion you need to use that weak point targeting attack and you have a decent chance to miss.

>enemies are bound by steam too during overwatch
Sure as hell never seemed like it since trying to run to any area ended up with you having your health shredded, especially if you run out and then run back to cover.

I don't know how you found it easy, in the generator level for example you have snipers that can one-shot your teammates outside, on the inside you have enemies that can kill you in two hits but you can deal with them easily no problem if you just take it slowly since they don't infinitely respawn, it's only the snipers, and you can all just funnel in from the back to kill the generator. The problem is that one gear is literally in the line of sight of the snipers and another requires you to go around the generator to reach it which means you need to kill both snipers, pray the eyeballs don't teleport towards your character running to the one right next to the generator, tank the generator's mortar, and then still hope the eyeballs don't teleport in front of your way out around the generator.

I had no fun at all in the levels prior to getting the medkit, it's a nightmare to reach the gears. This stage was pretty bad as well but thankfully the spider things respawn really slowly so you can manage the gears.

Imo the gameplay is too slow. Its not fun to replay missions at all.

Locking the Fire Emblem characters behind amiibo while requiring the new (at the time) N3DS or some NFC add on.

I would have totally bought the game if they were just in the game with no amiibo crap
