Illidan did nothing wrong.

He literally did. WC3 presented him as someone who betrayed Malfurion out of jealously and spite over not having Tyrande, and a selfish desire to save his ability to use magic. So he sided in a civil war with the actual demon-summoning bad guys. I know that the later shit decided to go full historical revisionism, but boy did he do everything wrong.

The fucking manual for WC3 tells you what he did, and if you read it before you played the game you knew vaguely that it was a bad idea.

If that was his entire character arc he would be a tragic hero, but it isn't, and it ignores several other things he did, including the whole reason he was in prison in the first place. Also the fact he went insane and we spent the last good expansion trying to kill him.

Which means that I killed this fucker twice, and they still expect me to shout "OH COOL, GOOD DEMON!" when he comes back. I fully expect things to stay dead the second time, or for me to at least get a third shot.

No it didn't. Let's take a look at everything Illidan does in WC3.

First, Tyrande lets him out of his cage. He's buttmad at Malfurion, but decides to help out because he still loves Tyrande, so he takes part of the night elf army and goes demon killing. Along the way, he encounters Tichondrius and attacks him, but Tichondrius is too powerful for him, so he backs off and takes the skull of Gul'dan to be able to kill Tichondrius, and so he does. When Malfurion gets back, he yells at Illidan for selling his soul for power. Illidan tries to explain that he only did it so he could fight the demons, but Malfurion isn't buying it and banishes him anyway.

You could argue that taking the skull of Gul'dan was a bad move, but from his perspective it was the only way to fight Tichondrius. This is reflected in the game by granting Tichondrius Divine Armor, which means that he can't be damaged by normal means. This is to show the utterly vast power difference between him and Illidan, so we can take for granted there was no way Illidan could have won against him otherwise.

Taking these facts into account, the only conclusion you can draw is that illidan really did only ever want to fight demons (for Tyrande's sake, of course), and was not motivated by greed or spite in any way.

It's literally in the fucking manual for the game that he betrayed them, resulting in the deaths of most of Malfurion's crew you troglodyte. Retards like you are the reason manuals are half a page long now.

Even back in the day people thought Illidan's motives in BC didn't make any sense.

BC is a good expansion, but it by far had the worst handling of the lore in any part of the game.

Nope. As far as I know, it only reduces the amount of damage any attack that isn't Chaos Damage to 1, and grants a fuckload of health regen.

I like how, even if that was true, we would have to ignore the litany of horrible and evil things he was doing in Outland to make it remotely okay. Despite every single content update post 1.12 being retconning, they haven't gotten any less shit at it.

It is after you complete the Shadowmourne legendary I believe. When you kill the LK at the end, you find several things he still has on him as mementos. Then you keep them as rewards in the end.

The reason was that he wanted to maintain magic. With it with he gave the NE immortality, and all NE are now crying they are mortal again. I ignore WOW lore since its a mess. But there was no reason to not let him go.
