Is the "PC Master Race" a meme?
PCs can't be that good for gaming, can they?
Is the "PC Master Race" a meme?
Other urls found in this thread:
Yeah, sure, kiddo.
Go back to your overpriced obsolete shitbox.
Consoles are for people who just want an easy and pre-made experience.
PC are for people who wants more control over how the game will look and play.
PCs are great for gaming.
unfortunately the games these days are shit.
>Is the "PC Master Race" a meme?
Yes.
Is it still arguably the best way to play videogames that aren't new-gen console exclusive?
Yes.
Next time use your head and you would've easily come to these conclusions yourself
They leech off of console games for the most part, begging for ports all the time and then pirating or buying them for $5 on sale. Most PC exclusives are made on a shoestring budget, barely playable and the good ones inevitably come to console sooner or later.
...
this is true regardless of your gaming platform
at least on a PC you can play old games. on console you have to cough up 10$ just for one shitty port
probably the best option for gaming
not the only option like some people make it out to be but there you go
PC is definitely the best option for gaming. But unfortunately it is not popular enough so games are made for consoles and then get shitty ports.
Master Race was a fun meme because Sup Forums knows it's ironic funposting like Fox calling Sup Forums hackers on steriods and internet hate machine.
Then reddit came and took it all too seriously. Typical reddit ruining fun memes.
I like strategy games so console is literally not an option for me.
PC offers far more variety.
haha yeah total meme
don't forget to buy the latest iteration of your console so you don't left behind :^)
Don't forget to buy the latest GPU so you don't get left behind :^)
Don't forget to be a total fucking retard and miss the point. Oh wait you didn't forget, never mind.
You really like talking out of your assistance don't you
RoTK series is all you really need tho
Yes?
I used to think PCs were utter trash and I was a complete console fanboy, but after getting caught and fired I had to sell my console library to make rent; being left with just a laptop really opened my eyes to what's out there and now, a few years on, I'm a complete convert.
Consoles used to have their place as a source of a dozen or so high-quality exclusives, but having seen just how hard PC has ravished the PS4 and Xbone library, it's becoming harder and harder to justify owning one, especially now that they've lost a lot of aspects that made them preferable to PC games (patches, install times, crashes, buying new hardware to play games at a vaguely-stable framerate etc.)
You're the attention whoring faglord who made , aren't you?
Let's sum up PC gaming.
Pros:
>most powerful hardware available
>backwards compatibility
>biggest library
>any controller can be used
>games are cheap in comparison to consoles
>emulation
>piracy
>has much more uses
>free online functions
Cons:
>expensive
>not foolproof
>probably consumes more power
>sometimes setup may be complicated
>maintenance is much more important
Overall, it's primarily work tool. PC isn't dedicated gaming platform, so dudebros get lost because they can't into anything more complicated the press X to play. True patricians are still idorts, but only in two cases - they bought console when it wasn't possible to emulate it or it's still not possible (like Xbox), OR PC port is garbage.
I don't understand. What does that thread have to do with PCs?
>I'm only pretending to be retarded ;^)
amazing thread OP
>Same style of forced feigned ignorance
Yep, you are.
Literally so many more pros than what you listed to
>mods
>free online
>60fps
>not foolproof
>probably consumes more power
Not probably. Also being foolproof is not a benefit or a con. It's a never ending struggle, ask any engineer. The instant you make something foolproof, the universe creates a bigger and better fool.
Hey, when I only had a console I used to bash PC like a delusional retard as well. You should actually try it
Consoles will die eventually and become just like PC's. It's only the hardware costs that keep things the way they are now.
The instant they're capable of very high res and frame rates with low cost hardware, there is very little reason for them to exist.
In that sense, nintendo will be last console retailer around probably.
Uncapped framerates a majority of the time. I can actually play games at 144FPS instead of the shitbox 30 that laptops and consoles usually run at
>Nintendo will be the last console retailer around probably
I agree with that statement, nintendo has that charm and uniqueness that PC and other consoles don't have and I hope it stays that way.
You're missing
>Open platform
>Easier to Roach-proof for dirty subhumans as well as inspect for Roaches when purchasing from dirty subhumans
As long as marketing exists and companies can funnel money into it people will make shit decisions.
Lmao what?
I know it well, I study robotics and one of my lecturers told us to always expect someone will be stupid enough to bypass safety or break whole system with just a touch, but, still, you must have very special talent to break a console.
Unless a port is horrible, then PC is pretty much the best way to play a game. However, consoles are still good, and are worth it if you're interested in their exclusives.
Anyone who thinks that there is only one good platform and all others suck is either an idiot or trolling.
After you experience at least 60 fps youll throw your overpriced youtube player in the trash can
PC master race is a shitty meme made by people with asperger, with too much money and LED that spent 3k for playing CS and PUBG
PC gaming on the other hands is pretty great
Consoles are for people who play games. PC is for people who play graphics and beg for ports.
>not buying a box with hardware from 2010 and playing at cinematic silky smooth 30 fps makes you an idiot or troll
PC MASTER RACE ,PEASANT
>Consoles will die eventually and become just like PC's.
I used to think that too, but if you look at who owns console platforms, the trends in hardware, and next-gen operating systems, it seems very likely that PC gaming as we know it today is going to become a high-end niche hobby.
The days of systems built from discrete components running open platforms being a mainstream thing which makes it easy for people to get into PC gaming are coming to an end.
Microsoft is very much invested in the closed platform console space today and is more interested in increasing restrictions on users and making Windows more like the Xbox than making it a better host for Steam and other third party stores.
If consoles die, it will probably be more because phones will become more like the Switch, than having anything to do with PCs.
A decade from now most PC gaming will probably look a lot more like Raspberry Pi Retro Gaming with all but the most expensive systems.
It's literally the other way round with port begging.
The most played ps4 game atm is a shit knock off of pubg (and pretty much everything else is multiplat)
PC master race was a yahtzee joke redditors decided to take seriously
>mods
Fact, I forgot it, but mods are just a bonus.
>free online
I mentioned it already.
>60fps
Meme number, also, it's directly related to hardware which I mentioned before. I didn't come here to berate console users, because them wanting simple experience without any thinking is natural human behaviour.
>meme number
Kek enjoy your eye damage
If you actually care about video games and would consider it one of your primary interests or hobbies and spend a decent amount of time playing them, there is no reason not to own a pc. It is absolutely worth the investment and over a long period of time will likely save you money. If you just play casually and aren't as invested into the hobby, I can understand only wanting to own a console, but you understand any pc is more than just a box that plays games and you should factor that in when making your choice. You can literally tailor your pc to be whatever you want.
PC master race wasn't a joke when he said it and it's not a joke now
All the games I want to play are either Sony or Nintendo exclusives. PC has the most potential but my interest in it ends there.
>implying it's not meme when you can have unlimited framerates
It was always a retarded reddit mustards way of shitposting.
Personal computers have become absolute shit for games these days. They've practically become ps3/360 era consoles due to steam, uplay, and origin.
console is a casual, cheap, basic things covered approach, PC gaming is for people who are ready to shell out some more cash but also want more bang for their buck
If you don't care about video games and want to fuck over game developers by buying their games on sale, therefore ensuring that there will be less game development budget and we'll get more crappy indie games made on a shoestring budget, there's reason not to own a PC.
>console is nanny-state
>PC is the land of the free
Show me actual data of games sold at full price vs games sold on sale and prove your claim. And show me it over several games so I know you're not cherrypicking. Otherwise your claim baseless.
>t.reddit
Most powerful hardware available isn't that great for games, and is found in data centres. Backwards compatibility is absolute shit. It is better to have older computers for the task. Many old games (like splinter cell missing a lot of its shadow and lighting effects) just don't look right on current systems.
You cannot just use any controller. Many games only supports xbox 360 type controllers. The days of everything supporting generic controllers is over.
Free online functions? They're as restrictive as on consoles. Games where you can host your own private server is few and far between. (sticking your name to a lobby is not the same as hosting your own server).
Emulation for anything newer than the SNES is absolute garbage. Having to fiddle with settings to make the emulator work better with a specific game is not fun. I rather just get a cheap 2 dollar PS2 from the thrift store.
>PC port is garbage
PC ports are always garbage. Same goes for console ports. I don't get why people constantly beg for them. Just buy the platform the game's intended for if you want to play it. If you won't, or cannot afford, shut up and find something else to do with your time. You don't have to play every single game that crosses your way.
Mods aren't worth much these days. People used to make maps for online games, download engines and make entire games, but now, the best you can hope for is some mod that makes everything look oversaturated and blurry.
>Open platform
Current computers are not open platforms. You have many undocumented components that require closed firmware or drivers and undocumented secondary systems like PSP and Intel ME that have direct access to everything that is in memory. There are open systems out there (Talos II is close), but none of you people would ever buy them (no games, unless someone ports quake, someone will port quake).
>Grew up with Nintendo consoles & handhelds. Crappy desktop so never into PC gaming.
>Thought Mario, Zelda, & Pokemon games as the best games ever.
>Bought a decent laptop during undergrad year & started to get into PC gaming. Later, build a gaming PC.
>No longer give a fuck about Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and post-Wii Nintendo consoles afterwards.
Who here can't no longer into console gaming after being baptized into PC gaming?
>Many old games (like splinter cell missing a lot of its shadow and lighting effects) just don't look right on current systems.
Have you tried Wine? Its a Win32 compatibility layer much like the one Microsoft now uses in Windows 10, but it tends to have better support for older software. Think of it kind of like DOSbox for legacy Windows applications.
Splinter Cell's GoG version has a platinum rating, and Lutris and PoL both have easy ways to get it going.
>You cannot just use any controller. Many games only supports xbox 360 type controllers. The days of everything supporting generic controllers is over.
This is a Windows-only issue, and the reason should be obvious. Microsoft wants to sell Xbox controllers. Games that use SDL for controller support have a lot larger range of controller options, this is the norm off of Windows but most Windows games still use DirectX and its Xbox-centered APIs for some reason.
Emulators and pirating are more than enough to make PC Godlike. Codex and Skidrow and all those good fellows that make roms are God's messengers.
What games do you play?
its a meme after horizon zero dawn puked all over almost every pc game in terms of visuals
I was with pc since the beginning. Never played any zelda, pokemon, probably played some old mario game on famiclone, nothing special about it.
>You cannot just use any controller
Not him but i have been using my DS4 controller for literally every game i want, even new releases, for the past 2 or 3 years
Also in the event that a port is poorly done, we can fix it with mods anyway, who cares
>b-begging for ports!
Yeah stay mad kiddo, we'll be taking those "exclusives" tyvm
The standard for most PC players is 60FPS though and think a game not having a game being that minimum is a negative no matter how negligible an annoyance it is.
Its a healthy standard to have if you even consider yourself an entry level enthusiast.
Consoles should be secondary purchases once youve upgraded your PC every 4-5 years max.
You can tell by the games OP
>i i like to pull shit out of my ass: the post
Console games are objectively better because Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft actually have a reason to fund game development. Too bad game developers are complete retards and port their games to PC afterwards. Maybe if PCfats didn't get any console scraps they'd realize how worthless PC gaming really is when the only companies supporting you make autistic spreadsheet simulators.
Amazing how you managed to fit that much retardation in only that many words
Oldfags like me heard this exact thing in the 90s and early 2000s and PC is now stronger than it quite frankly ever has been. It will be still be here in 50 years. Something will replace Windows if it strays too far.
...
It's not like retard's vocabulary is wide.
I have used Wine a lot in the past. Used to maintain my own ebuild for it to include game specific patches. Every new version of wine broke compatibility with some games, every update of some games broke compatibility with wine. I stopped and just use windows for games due to how much of a hassle wine was. Wine would also require that I install 32-bit binaries on my system, and I just don't care about having both 32-bit and 64-bit packages of the same library on the same system.
Splinter Cell depends on features only found in older drivers and older graphics cards. Wine might support those in its translation layer, but I don't want to deal with the hassle. These days I've been testing out passthrough of my graphics card, so I can play games through a virtual machine, but kvm with passthrough is slow as hell on AMD platforms, but I hear Xen is better on AMD platforms, so I might try that later when I have time.
I just don't want to spend time on wine anymore. I think it is less hassle to pull out one of my old computers and play Splinter Cell on that.
>he thinks enjoying a superior experience with the same level of comfy or greater means you have to be neurotic about it
These advantages, we just vocalize them on threads from time to time, they're not at the forefront of our minds while we play, in the same way that your lower resolution, framerate and subpar textures aren't in yours when you play
>Don't give one SHIT about consoles
>Come home after a relaxing day of just kicking back on my IRA
>Actually enjoy my games WITH good framerate, resolution and other bullshit
>Consolefriends will someday know this feel when developers start seriously pushing hardware to its limits.
Yes it was sadly its not a joke now. I play on PC exclusively and PCMR tards are fucking embarrassing.
show me a console that lets me have a web browser open on the left and discord on the right and then we'll talk.
>Also in the event that a port is poorly done, we can fix it with mods anyway, who cares
Not a single game has been fixed with a mod. They're still a hassle, and they're still a pain to play. Skyrim is sitll unpredictable and annoying to play even with the SkyUI mod.
Ports are shit, but mods works well for older PC games. Especially for the ones that have issues on current systems, like Max Payne. I couldn't play that at all until I got an alternative launcher that fixed the crashes and sound issues.
Mods for HL and Quake are pretty good too, but there is hardly anything like that anymore.
>>maintenance is much more important
Just get a can or air and dust your pc once every 6 months it'll be fine, change the thermal paste every 2 years and its more than okay.
thats the bare minimum required, yes, but if you were seriously about your pc repair you'd go through the trouble of washing carefully the keyboard and mouse and if you actually gived a shit the motherboard.
>Not a single game has been fixed with a mod
You can't be fucking serious, are you just pretending or..?
Right, I remember back then, and to be fair it did wind up being true for a number of platforms. I still know guys clinging to their Amigas. The 00s were also fairly cataclysmic for PC gaming with a lot of companies bought out and force to go console-only.
Its a good thing that PC gaming survived, but if you look around today games that really push high level hardware are few and far between with most games targeting low-spec systems.
>washing carefully the keyboard and mouse and if you actually gived a shit the motherboard.
i'm getting memed on here, you don't wash your keyboard, mouse and motherboard.
You clean your keyboard with the same can of air or remove the keys and clean it more thoroughly , mouse doesn't need any cleaning, maybe the bottom a bit and you don't ever wash your motherboard.
This, also, don't forget you also have to maintain the software and several things that can be done only through software. Not mentioning viruses.
in this thread;
>consoles move their armies orward a bit and press initimidation against the legion of pCivilians
>the pc master race unifies its legion of elderbrains together and releases a stroke of logic that decimates them console boys army
>consolers begin consoling the loss of their beloving baby toys
>pc laughs delightfully and lifts their air city up to the heavens with the power of superior processing hardware
>meanwhile a remnant shard from the pc city falls to the ground
>the console nations immediately turn on one another and begin fighting over the scraps of quality left behind
great thread
Its hit/miss depending on what games you like and how you like to play them.
Something like XCOM is better on pc than it is on console, but something like gta is better on console than pc imo. Preference of keyboard/mouse or controller is a huge part of it, as well as if you like sitting at a desk or on a couch.
viruses can easily be dealth with thou and most of it is using error. if you didnt browse pornchan and flist on your device it wouldnt happen. most people freak out but just give your computer a blanket, pillow and crack open a can of chicken noodel soup for it and itll be working fine in no time.
I can see games that aren't really far from baldur's gate and require quad core, 8gb ram and an actual gpu.
I played thru GTAV on pc with a controller while sitting in my recliner. shit was comfy as fuck.
Thats closer to the standard console experience than the average pc experience. Glad you liked it.
PC will always be a shitty inferior platform because cheaters/hackers and so called 'modders' ruin the integrity of the game.
Anyone putting any serious time into any videogame should be doing it in on a console in its purest form.
>Wine would also require that I install 32-bit binaries on my system, and I just don't care about having both 32-bit and 64-bit packages of the same library on the same system.
Its true that most Linux games are 64 bit native, but most Windows games aren't so its not surprising that Wine would need 32bit libraries for them, Windows does the exact same thing behind the scenes.
>Splinter Cell depends on features only found in older drivers and older graphics cards. Wine might support those in its translation layer, but I don't want to deal with the hassle.
I'm not sure what the hassle is, these days you can use a wine frontend that handles all the previously annoying bits. Even the really fiddly stuff like native Direct3D support on AMD cards, though that does usually require third party Mesa packages.
>I think it is less hassle to pull out one of my old computers and play Splinter Cell on that.
If you still have an old machine around sure. Just don't connect it to the internet.
> (OP)
>Its hit/miss depending on what games you like and how you like to play them.

You know, HDMI cables, or the Steam Link, and controllers on PC exist?
An then you went online, a hacker teleports you to a mountain side and blows you and everyone in a vehicle up.
Your bank account rockets into the millions and 5 minutes later you're banned as well.
Glorious PC master race!
>PC will always be a shitty inferior platform because cheaters/hackers and so called 'modders' ruin the integrity of the game.
>Anyone putting any serious time into any videogame should be doing it in on a console in its purest form.
I have never bumped into hackers in my 5 years playing games on PC. Also some mods make games actually standable to play, like Skyrim.
Nice lies you dumb fuck.
That shit happens on Xbox One and PS4 aswell.
Have you seen the modding menus people have made for Call of Duty and GTAV?
They do, but the average joe may not know, or care to bother fucking around with changing displays, or may not have a tv in the vicinity of the pc.
I’m talking about the most common/generic picturing of these cases.
Probably because you spend 5% of your time playing games and 95% of your time defending your shitty gaming platform on Sup Forums
Some people genuinely believe that people that play better are hackers.
