Last day a friend told me about this topic, and my first reaction was to state that videogames can't be art no matter what. Later I changed of perspective and recognized that some vidya can be art Indeed, but still I wanna read what says Sup Forums about this
Last day a friend told me about this topic...
if you draw a picture, it's art
if you draw a shit ton of pictures and string them together as animation, it's art
if you write and record music, it's art
if you write a story, it's art
but if you put em all together into a video game and add interactivity, it's not art
>Later I changed of perspective and recognized that some vidya can be art Indeed
>but if you put em all together into a video game and add interactivity, it's not art
Why though? Is non-interactivity a prerequisite for something to be art?
Does this look like art to you?
I'll assume that's a yes. What degree of interactivity precludes something from being art?
No, and you're fucking dumb to take my reply as a yes.
>trying to discuss art on Sup Forums
people are too retarded for that on this board
Okay, so what precludes a video game from being art?
Yes. And also, I were never able to understand any of the jokes in Rick and Morty
I don't care if people think it's art or not. I just want it to be fun. All I know is that ever since we had this big push for MUH ART some games have become less fun. They feel less like games and more like interactive movies. Just because some faggots from San Francisco wants GAMES TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AS ART. Who care? Just make it fun
What do you think art is?
>They feel less like games and more like interactive movies.
This is a stupid way of trying to get the medium to be taken seriously anyway, it's like if people tried to prove films were art by making films that were mostly text and saying it's therefore as artistic as literature.
>Later I changed of perspective and recognized that some vidya can be art Indeed
What changed your mind?
Is that ironic?
>if you draw a picture, it's art
>if you draw a shit ton of pictures and string them together as animation, it's art
>if you write and record music, it's art
>if you write a story, it's art
So this is art?
Yes.
Pretty things.
I think video are good art, though I think the twix/skittle wrappers has good art as well. So if you really want to talk about equivalencey. Game art is no more respectable then a product that contains unhealthy food.
Art is a connection that a person has with an object. Literally no "thing" can "be" art but the connection between the person and the object is. That's why cooking can be art because it's a matter of expression.
Basically it's all about expression.
>some vidya can be art
Which ones?
