name one game with replay value

Super Metroid.

Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Quest 3.

Both games have near infinite replay value due to you being able to play through the game with various job combinations giving you a different experience each time.

In the relationship points maybe

dating barret

Tfw never played a super metroid

Should I

That's it tho. And the points barely matter, because Cloud still "fits" the best with Aeris no matter what. It's really obvious that you aren't meant to choose.. and the Tifa scene under the Highwind also happens every playthrough. It would be neat if it could be with Yuffie or even Barret

ye

In the game, materia. And as a general rule, literally every single story ever written is better on the second time than the first.

In re-experiencing the greatest soundtrack in videogame history.

Jrpgs have little to no replay value.

There is no such thing as replay value.

>best jrpg of all time
>looks like this

I dont know man

>mfw my friend has SEVERAL files with 99 hours and everyone lvl 99
>has everyones final limit breaks, best weapons and all materia maxed out
>mfw he still plays it from time to time

its not even that good of an rpg game tbqhdesu

FF7 is older than half of Sup Forums.

Materia is bullshit up until the third disc. You pretty much always end up with the same "builds", because that's all the materia you have. You only really gain access to it by the end, and by then, there is nothing left to do except kill the weapons, which just takes grinding and boring chocobo sidequests, so you can spam KoTR. muh content guyzzzz

>literally every single story ever written is better on the second time than the first.
Not when the only real meat of the story is a lazy amnesia plot twist and a character death.

Tales or Symphonia actually has some, by giving you credits that you earn throughout the game to give you wacky bonuses on successive playthroughs.

Also, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls by allowing you to carry over equiptment. Because of World/Character tendency, most plays lock themselves out of certain paths and equiptment their first time through.

Always loved how it even becomes harder each playthrough to account for your gained levels & gear.

Sounds like you don't like the game. Of course it's not worth re-experiencing something you dislike.
>Not when
I wasn't being hyperbolic, there are absolutely zero exceptions.

Evil Within 2 is a recent example that comes to mind

>Half

>muh content guyzzzz
Yeah sure let's just ignore all of the Golder Saucer why don't we?

>Materia is bullshit up until the third disc. You pretty much always end up with the same "builds", because that's all the materia you have
you have access to plenty of materia the moment you leave midgar
>which just takes grinding and boring chocobo sidequests, so you can spam KoTR.
git gud

Don't spoil my Disneyland

>>Not when
>I wasn't being hyperbolic, there are absolutely zero exceptions.
nigga did you read my post? THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES THE STORY SEEM SO ((((((((DEEP))))))) IS THE STUPID CLOUD PLOT TWIST AND AERIS DYING. THE SUPRISE OF THESE THINGS DIE IMMEDIATELY AFTER GETTING TO THEM

sure cause chocobo racing is sooooo fun and the battle square is just grinding for omnislash. There is literally nothing else

>so you can spam KoTR
You use KoTR on Ruby and it's going to kill you extra fast.

Why are you so obsessed with proving you're above FF7 to the point where you can't even read what I'm typing? Surprise doesn't matter, ever.

welcome to every single JRPG.

Surprise is the only reason FF VII's plot is so highly regarded. Have you even played the game?

It looks even worse in some parts

>There is literally nothing else
Except the most important room in the Saucer.

>start replaying FFVII for the old times sake
>fucking Midgar why won't this forced 3 hour long tutorial level end already
>force yourself to play trough Midgar
>it's followed by the Nibelheim flashback snorefest
>fuck it

I used to love FFVII and do annual playthrough of it but I just can't be arsed to play it any more. Am I the only one?

>B-but Midgar is the best/only good part of FFVII!
Yes, it's awesome experience when playing through it for the first time but when you are (trying to?) replay the game for 9001st time it feels as a forced unskippable 3hour long tutorial at best.

>pc port

It just hits the right notes at the right parts

WAAAAAAAAAAH THE GRAPHICS ARE OOOOOLD

>Surprise is the only reason FF VII's plot is so highly regarded
That's simply what you've deceived yourself into believing because you can't come to terms with the concept that people can like things you dislike and neither they nor you are wrong for doing so. "Ah, it MUST be because of this element of surprise! That's why they're all being tricked into thinking it's good, and I'm the enlightened one."

This is fucking hilarious.

Playing blind without a guide, did you get Vincent? Did you do Wutai in disk one? Find all the ultimate limit breaks, the key for midgar, the gimmicks to beat the Weapons, all the huge materia?

FF7 came out before literally everyone gamefaq'd everything. Now anons play according to instructions then bitch and moan when there're no extras.

It was left behind in the old days. For me, I didn't have an internet conection yet, and didn't use guides or anything. It was still a time of rumors.
And the game has tons and tons of secrets. First time I played it didn't even really got the story due to all the cutscenes I missed.
I found out how to get Alexander in my second play through and bested Emerald on the third.

It could be worse. I have a friend who actually plays TALES OF SYMPHONIA every year!

>>B-but Midgar is the best/only good part of FFVII!
i've never heard anyone say this

...

Pretty much every multiplayer game.

Dark Souls just sends you to replay it again

that doesn't mean its actually worth it

the bigger issue is that most materia is pointless 99% of the time

you are better off just equipping enemy skill to avoid the -HP/-STR hits from green + red materia, plus most enemy skills/physical attacks are better than most materia anyway. only green materia that is useful is basically just cure-all.

First time I beated Emerald didn't even knew gold chocobos existed.

please elaborate.

dont get me wrong, i enjoyed it while i played through it years ago, but i saw nothing worth revisiting or grinding hundreds of hours to get

this

i never get tired of playing fighting games with my friends

The subtle things made it worth replaying. Such as if you take Yuffie along with you everywhere she'll start bitching at you for putting her in crazy situations.

Consider the Cover Materia. Just that one.

1. Use Cloud, the games hardest hitter. Avoid all magic, nailbat style. Attach counter attack. Consider berserk status. Use cover to launch constant aggressive counters.
2. Use Barret, the only dude tougher than Coud. Tranq him to boost his defence. Hide out back. Instead of prioritising counter, act like an old school tank.
3. Take Aeris. Hyper her. Every hit will do most of her HP in damage and you'll be constantly spamming her crazy strong limits.

Three mutually incompatible builds using materia/items you get in midgar

It has Tifa in it

Strange, I hear it all the fucking time.

>to avoid the -HP/-STR hits from green + red materia
those aren't even worth mentioning unless you're speedrunning +/ otherwise gimping yourself
>only green materia that is useful is basically just cure-all.
lmao

Grinding for a perfect party, everyone with all master materia.
If you have a copy of every materia of a category at master, you can take it to cosmo canyon, IF you recovered the great materia
to fuse all of them in a special materia that grants all spells of that category in just 1 slot.
You can have all the green slots in 1 materia slot, same with summons and commands.

The problem of the game is that for how strong you can get, emerald and ruby are too few enemies to really enjoy the system.
It lacks enemies and bosses that force you to use more obscure combinations, like adding holy to melee attacks.
Also, damage should not scale that much. Characters can hit 9999 dmg ceiling quite fast, making everthing but multiple hits attack pointless.
So it ends up being kotrt + mime or just 4 hit

Does Ehrgeiz have a high replay value just because it has Tifa in it?

>waaah why isn't there 100 repetitive fetch quests to artificially inflate playing time

...

>implying that makes a difference

BUT MUH ATMOSPHERE

...

?? why would you bother using ANY green materia when trine, aquabreath and white wind can carry you through almost 100% of the game?

i mean on a first playthrough you equip it because you dont know any better, but when you replay it you realize how pointless all of it is. dont get me wrong, i love ff7, but there were so many pointless, unnecessary combat mechanics

Of course. Main reason to play that game.

...

>i minmax everything like an autist and then complain how the game has no replay value because a "best option" is available

Replay value is a retarded concept.
Either you want to re-experience something or you don't. It's not something a game needs to offer, the desire to replay a game needs to come from the player.

None. When you finish a game you never turn back.

I bought a FF7 guide before I bought FF7 itself

What. . is this?

it's not even minmaxing, since you only have to use trine or aqualung once to realize its 10x more effective than the magic the game throws at you.

>i intentionally play games poorly because it's roleplaying XD XD

...

muh graphics
check your pm's :)
forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15520.0

FFV, FFIII. They're both 99% gameplay and 1% cutscenes

replay value is not having to use two turns instead of one to do the same damage sometimes.

This has zero replay value

STOP MAKING SENSE!!!!

You are either stupid or have never played the game. Learn the walljump at least

So basically guess around for 70+ hours? For example how the fuck would you find the Lunar Harp without a guide? Trial and error is the only answer. FUN

any sidescroller or platformer desu

Super Mario 64. Spelunky.

>For example how the fuck would you find the Lunar Harp without a guide?
nigger are you retarded

tell me. please

My brother has played this game 13 times, maxing out both the in gamer timer and every stat in the game.

He's done every kind of run imaginable.

And he wants to replay it soon while renaming everyone dumb names like "poophed".

the village has a very well explained minigame for that very purpose.
do you just try to rush through all content without talking to a single npc?

Are you thinking of something else? The Lunar Harp is a required item to finish the game, and it's simply matching up the line of sight of the diggers. Shouldn't take you more than two tries.

I understand this, but this is still trial and error. There is no skill

Play Xenogears instead.

It's not trial and error at all. You tell them to search for the harp, and then you triangulate the way they're looking to get the point it's buried at. If you miss it on the first try, it's entirely your fault for not triangulating properly.

You would instruct the NPC that you are looking for the lunar harp. You do this by selecting lunar harp from the menu. Then you play the mingame according to the instructions available. Might take a few tries while you nail it down. You now possess the lunar harp.

You don't need a guide to complete the game. You play and finish it yourself then use a guide or word of mouth to really excavate the content on round two.

>the tifa scene
It's different depending on your relationship with her though.

>And he wants to replay it soon while renaming everyone dumb names like "poophed".

the madman

that's bonkers

Why would i replay the game? I go though the same places and already known all the secrets, no point to play it again

youtube.com/watch?v=OOjXaAZHEQE
this is you

Things were like that before. I remember to get stuck in wild arms 1 for about 3 months in some place. Then get back to it, figure it out and beat it. If you got stuck in a game, your turned the console off and tried another day

Sequence breaking.

>use Trine and Aqualung once on CD1
>no more MP for the rest of the fight

Considering I've played through it 36 times (11 of those virtual 100%), there has to be some. I only stopped in 2008, when my copy no longer worked.

I got Vincent. I got to Rocket Town and saw a gun on sale and was like "Oh no you don't!" Did Wutai on second disc, when I got the Highwind. Found Yuffie to the left of Gongaga. The rest I missed. Found Lucrecia's cave though.

any game that isn't a 2/5

Those spells costed a LOT of MP at the start. Enemy Skill really shines at the later half and some powers require obscure things to do. Like mind controlling an enemy and giving that power to yourself.

Your brother is a legend.
