So why is this roster so small when previous games had nearly 100 characters? I never played any so I'm just asking.

Xenoverse is a more casual game, not even close technically, and with RPG elements.
3D fighters always lack a lot of depth, so you can just throw in 100 fighters, while in 2D ones, you have to pay attention to balancing, and thus, making each fighter different.

DBFZ is designed to be a true competitive fighting game in addition to fanservice, so having that many characters isnt really possible

Previous games are basic 90% 3D models doing uninspired punch kick ki blast animations. In this game every character is hand crafted to match the manga and anime and almost every character is designed around a unique competitive fighting game fighting style.

the only reason Broly and Kid Buu are on here are because they're pretty much locks. Dabura would be nice as a secondary non-buu buu saga villain.

And those 100+ characters only happened in the 2nd or 3rd games, but more than half were transformations like base form, SS1, 2, 3, 3 or 4 forms of Cell or 5 of Freeza or 3 of Super Buu absorptions. Tenkaichi even had shit like Early Goku, Mid Goku, End Goku

Mr.Satan is one of the most interesting picks possible, they could have him play like Faust with random capsule items

plus he has tons to draw from

I really hope Roshi gets in. My biggest hope is that we don't see any more duplicates of characters, so no Ultimate Gohan or Kid Buu. Make more room for entirely different characters.

Imperfect Cell, Semi-Cell(2nd form whatever is called), Perfect and Super Perfect Cell(the "SS2" one).

GT: either Super 17 and Omega or Pan?
Beerus should be announced with... Black? or SSG Goku... as dlcs?

Nappa is not really much of a surprise. Arc Sys made extreme butoden, and outside of kid buu and mystic gohan, we have that games roster right now + blue vegeta and goku

It's inherent to them, due to the way they play and the nature of the 3D movement.
