I really liked FF7, and I'd prefer the remake cancelled. I hate it when non-fans unwilling to play the better games in the series call the newer ones their favorites without knowing anything prior.

i grew up with the fallout games, literally played the first two in middle school, love them to death
and the gameplay (not the writing or story) has aged like fucking milk and I wouldn't expect anyone without a deep-seated interest to really care about playing them

It has better music and graphics but the plot and characters reek of shonen edgelord teen drama shit. The music is so good though that's I'd say it has the best soundtrack out of any FF.

Why haven't they had Nomura murdered yet? He hasn't successfully seen a project to completion since Dirge of fucking Cerberus. Every game he's been attached to has bled money like a dying pig for several years past the initial deadline until someone else had to come in and try to glue all the shattered pieces together.

The thing that really floored me was hearing that Nomura presented the higher-ups with the idea that Final Fantasy XV should be turned into a musical, four fucking years into development, because he saw the Hugh Jackman Les Miserables movie the night before. How the motherfucker still has a job to this day is baffling to me. That's the kind of job security you only get with blackmail photos.

I'm a lot nicer to FF8 than most people, but I can't think of a single thing that it does better than FF7 that isn't purely technological. Even then, I really respect the Square staff at the time for wanting to prove that they weren't one-trick ponies and made it completely unlike any of the other games in the series, especially the one that had just broken every sales record the company had.

they effectively did do that yesterday. game development at this level takes forever and asset work is a small part of it that's usually outsourced anyway. this project got fucked up hard.

Yeah. I think Nomura pitches in a little like he did in the original, but Nojima writes, Nomura does the art direction and Kitase leads the project. It's literally 3 out of the 4 people that were in charge of the original.

Nobody actually asked them to spend billions of dollars on 80-quintillion-polygon models at the cost of content- the clueless producers at Square Enix just think that's what it takes to appeal to the FIFA crowd. Meanwhile, that crowd isn't gonna play FFVII even if it sucked them off at every random encounter, and RPG fans have been happy playing low-budget games like Shin Megami Tensei IV and even shovelware like Hyperdimension Neptunia for the past ten years.

Eh. CD burners weren't really a thing back then, Nintendo just wanted to avoid paying a license to the CD consortium for every console sold. They tried with Sony and with Philips and both deals went rear up, so they pretty much had to launch a cartridge console. They did try the disk drive, but peripherals always sell like shit.

And design as well. They don't need to design the places from scratch. Crisis Core actually must help there too in regards to Midgar and Nibelheim

Being a remake, nearly all of the basic game concepts are finalized from the outset.

Story, character design, the world, the music. All of this is done. They just have to spruce it up.

no it isn't, you can sub in and out materia as much as you want, you don't actually need to learn abilities

So the setback from switching the developement team is probably less severe than if they had made a game from scratch.
