Has this art style aged well?
Has this art style aged well?
nothing nintendo did aged well
And everyone here is your typical Sup Forums shitter response of the day.
It still looks ok. Some characters do look alot worse because of it tho.
Link does look pretty doped up and King Dedede looks like he's been lobotomized.
lol whatever you say nintenbro
Go back to playing your bing bing yahoo games.
Smash always looked dumb but I thought that was the point since it's just a mix of everything loosely related to Nintendo.
Thanks for proving his point. :^)
I didn't even like it all that much back then. Especially Bowser, just what the fuck was going on there?
Brawl and especially Melee look like shit because Sakurai wanted everything looking realistic so that everyone would "blend". One thing Playstation All-Stars did right was leaving everything looking like it did from their home franchises.
brawl looks decent though while ps all stars looks like fucking garbage. i dont think you can post a single screenshot of that game that doesnt look like ass
No. It's aged horribly, just like any game that tries to have some photo-realistic textures mixed with low poly models and awful lighting.
Looks fine to me.
Depends on the character, but overall it was always kind of a weird direction to take. Bowser in particular looked like absolute garbage and it's weird how it took them three games till they finally got him right.
Looks more adult and less kiddie, ages way better than the average bing bing wahoo
>finally got him looking right
>still makes generic movie dinosaur noises instead of his actual voice
>same with Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong
Sakurai doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.
Well yeah, I meant visually of course.
I know Sony likes "borrowing" from Nintendo but how did they get away with this?
Same as all smash bro games
>More realistic characters like Link age badly
>More goofy/stylized ones like Kirby look good forever
Literally no one played it so it turned out not to be a problem.
>ONLY NINTENDO IS ALLOWED TO MAKE CROSSOVER GAMES INVOLVING THEIR FRANCHISES!!
Tell me about it, Nintendo should have sued Naughty Dog for ripping off Mario Kart.
all the characters in this share aesthetics though. if you had raiden or that cat or jak it would look like shit.
Why would it look like shit because of them? The visual and art style variety is something that makes PSAS good.
Don't know what you're talking about OP.
Brawl was ugly at the time.
>crossover fighting game in 2D with up to 4 players with similar mechanics
I mean, sure, legally they can do it, but everyone can see it's "inspired" by Smash Bros. Plus because Sony's library is almost non-existant you get "literally who: the roaster".
>literally who
I adore this meme, one of Sup Forums's best ever. Every time I see it I can hear to poster screaming "I don't know who it is therefore nobody else does therefore they don't deserve to be in it!".
Come on now. Ask anyone on the street "Who is Sony's mascot?" or "Who is Sony's most iconic character?" and either you get "Uuuh, is Mario from Sony?" or you get "Uuuuh, Nathan Drake?" and that's it.
I also love this "Ask anyone on the street" meme. Yeah, that 65-year-old grandpa knows everything about games, as does that police officer, that soccer mom, those Girl Scouts, and the flasher in the alleyway.
>melee
>looks bad
What? Nonsense
>everything looks dark, dirty, and realistic
>not bad
I suppose it works for the "mature games for mature gamers like myself" people who demand all games be as brown and realistic as possible.
>There are people who unironically think this looks good and doesn't need to be fixed
The best looking characters were either Toro or normal people like Nathan Drake.
Even Parappa looked awful and he's supposed to be flat and simple.
So make Parappa a 3D and realistic generic dog in a beanie cap, problem solved.
OR, or
>Created simple, but detailed enough models, that are cel-shaded and share a nice art style, to make the characters look unified and not-shit
That's why with the power of the Internet, you educate them.
>I barely hang with people who know enough about games, therefore everyone only knows 20% of the medium and i must too
You have the same mentallity as a Polygon writer
>"That's why with the power of the Internet, you educate them."
>Implying they wouldn't rather learn about games from unfunny webcomics, top 10 lists and Dorkly videos
It's bing bing WAHOO, you miserable fuck. If you can't shitpost right, don't shitpost at all.
I thought Brawl was ugly when it was released. So I guess not.
It looks fine, but they really nailed it with Smash 4. The realism didn't really suit every character.
Brawl aged like shit, all the characters look washed-out. Though Melee started it. Smash 4 looks much better.
Yeah, because Dante, Sweet Tooth, Big Daddy, and Raiden would look good in that style. Just like how Mario, Yoshi, and Kirby look so good in Melee's realistic and muddy style.
Realism never ages well.
They don't have to be overly cartoonish, just get a style that makes them fit in 2D, without ruining who they are.
Or we leave them as they are in their home franchises and enjoy the many varied styles throughout the Sony lineup.
they didn't get away with it. they tried so hard to make the kill system TOTALLY NOT SMASH that they forgot they should probably try to make it fun too.
I actually liked Subspace Emissary.
>and enjoy the many varied styles throughout the Sony lineup.
If that's how it should be, at least make some of the characters actually DO THAT
>Anime kid with anime haircut looks like a troll with progeria
>Cartoon raccoon looks like a furry abomination out of a flopped CG animated movie
>Parappa is thicker and gross
>Kat looks like a melting plastic doll, instead of resembling the half french, half japanese art style from her series
Whoever made these models just made them, right after using Blender for the first time.
>Brawl inspired the biggest piece of literature ever
It sold millions
>Who is Sony's most iconic character?
Who is it anyway?
No sony first party character is iconic.
At least microsoft has that dude from halo
Ratchet, Drake
Ratchet sure but drake is just a generic cis white male
I thought this looked great when it came out, and that first day plowing through Subspace Emissary is one of my best memories. I still remember freaking out in that dark screen as Fox where you had to spam moves until managing to hit an explosive box and until then you probably thought the game broke
I really hated the washed out colors in Brawl's cutscenes, shame that they didn't bring back the Subspace Emissary for Wii U though.
I like how Smash has it's own style. Thing I hate is how they gave Yoshi the Nintendo approved design since Brawl.
>liking Kingdom Hearts: Nintendo Edition
Why? It was Mario and crew in a generic world fighting rejected Heartless designs to stop the love child of Xehanort and TRON. Melee's Adventure Mode was a far better application of the idea.
why did they try to make mario cool in brawl? he doesnt smile once in brawl or in 4. and hes always doing some ebin karate pose for no reason and constantly pissed off. does this trigger anyone else? hes the only character they did this with
Crash.
To avoid the BING BING WAHOO image I suppose
At Paris Games Week Sony is going to announce the successor to PlayStation All-Stars.
Smash is gonna get it's lunch eaten now lol.
Not even close to Kingdom Hearts, it doesn't have cringy dialogue at all.
alright, ask anyone on Sup Forums then the question is
>Who is sony's mascot
>No sony first party character is iconic.
"My first game was Assassin's Creed 2"
Name one then.
Toro, but only in Japan, because that's where people know a normal person is not a video game character.
Reminder that Ryu, or Generic Karate Man, is not iconic.
Ratchet is the most iconic one, since his series last long enough and still is noticeable by a lot of people, even if the movie bombed.
haha ebin maymay haha upvoted hahah reddit loves it
Sakurai has never given Donkey Kong his due
>animal crossing ripoff
Is there anything Nintendo Sony hasn't attempted to steal from?
Because it was so embarrassing that there was no point in humiliating them more.
Anyone who claims to enjoy it is a desperate sonybro
>Reminder that Ryu, or Generic Karate Man, is not iconic.
Not true, he just has a simple design, that was copied enough to because a stale meme, but besides his clothing, you also have his giant hands and feet.
Besides, most people don't know other fighting games besides SF and MK.
Too dark, attempts to mix a bit of realism into cartoonish styles resulted in many characters looking a little awkward or out of place.
I prefer 4's style more.
>let's have our characters fight a common foe
>but instead of someone like Rudy the Clown, Andross, or Black Shadow let's make our own Heartless and Ansem, and he wants to make all things darkness
No dialogue doesn't mean it's not a direct ripoff.
wait, how is it like kingdom hearts again?
what would you come up with, anyway?
because it was the mid 2000s
this
it's was nintendo's version of sonic dying in 06 and shadow's existence
I actually really like it, especially the denim texture on some characters. It made Olimar look really grimy for some reason though.
Brawl isn't even old
How?
You right tho
Who do any of you want in Smash?
twilight princess as well to some extent
even mario galaxy 1 was heavier the usual affair
It was pretty fun in the dorm desu
Evil OC and his OC army tries to destroy the worlds of Nintendo like how an evil OC and his OC army tries to destroy the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy.
Same basic premise except that the world is a mashup of actual Nintendo franchises instead of generic valleys and swamps and mountains, you fight actual Nintendo enemies like Kremlings, Stalfos, Geemers, Pigmask soldiers, etc, and the villain is a Nintendo villain who wants to rule over all things Nintendo.
Fucking this. Most consolewar posts are just shitposts. Sonybros and Nintenbros are fine with each other.
>Evil OC and his OC army tries to destroy the worlds of [ ]
Isn't that every crossover?
>Sonybros and Nintenbros are fine with each other.
you sure you're not referring to drawings fo sly cooper fucking fox mccloud?
PAS did that WRONG
This
Some of the characters barely resemble their styles or what they're supposed to be
It's like the Smurfs live action movie
Shit crossovers, yes. The good ones don't introduce OCs for the crossover characters to fight. Alien vs Predator and Freddy vs Jason didn't makeup another alien species or a psychotic killer worse than those two they need to team up against.
Did you watched both movies?
Because i recall there being original characters, where one had a bunch of teens trying to get away from both killers and the other had a black women, suddenly teaming up with a predator, to defeat the xenomorph.
there's two types of cross overs though, vs ones and cooperative ones and coop ones have an oc villain 99% of the time
Those are OCs caught in the middle and just trying to survive, with one or two siding with one of the villains to help both destroy each other or stop the one the Oc thinks is worse. And groups of cannon fodder are common in all four franchises. Neither movie had a super-alien or super-murderer that the Alien and Predator/Freddy and Jazon had to team up with each other to fight.
