Beautiful visuals and strong atmosphere.
But kind of light on coherent story, and very repetitive in terms of gameplay.
I feel like all the ingredients for something great are there, they just need to mix it up a bit more and maybe make the world more interactive beyond jumping from platform to platform for another combat section.

It's an empty, vacuous, repetitive game. The original had incredibly talented developers and is one of the greatest horror games ever made. Madness Returns was made by Chinese amateurs and world artists with too many work hours. It's got Wonderland and the whole artstyle going for it, but it's got vast stretches of nothing, boring level design, dull-enemies; and it utterly lacks the original's unnerving vibe. It's a half-hearted Bayonetta clone. And when the Cheshire Cat started talking about Alice being sufficiently equipped to kick some ass, a part of my soul died.
It's my greatest disappointment in gaming next to Lollipop Chainsaw and I hope to God that McGee has something better lined up in his pitch for Alice Asylum and I hope to God he succeeds with it.

Ok 3D platformer which there aren't enough of with very memorable levels. I keep thinking of stuff like the Japanese level and the underwater one and wanting to go back and play them but my god do the levels drag on. The game suffers from bad pacing in that regard and it feels very monotonous at times. Major step up from the first game though with its atrocious controls. I could sit in the underwater level all day though, my god are some of those levels gorgeous.

I feel like EA seemed like a sweet deal for smaller studios at first, but they've gotten much worse about taking any kind of creative chances in recent years.

These days my work is contained within a company called Mysterious. I've gone back to basics with a twisted fairy tale project called "Out of the Woods" which presents ten classic tales as a tabletop card game, illustrated book, and collection of art prints.
