The 3DS versions even used to get seasonal events and the original, glitchy mess was supposed to have downloadable events based on taking your waifu to X or Y store but that got canned in order to actually fix the bugs.

There's also Ciel nosurge that's basically Love Plus but with a single waifu, and the original release had its story broken up into gated releases you bought as they came out. Not to mention the ENTIRE plot and point of the game is to familiarize yourself with the main girl who is from a different dimension and you can interact with her only through a program she developed in her world that connects to your Vita. That's how it plays into real-time progression and seasonal events. It actually DOES something with its dumb 4th wall break "twist", which isn't even one as that's the entire basis for the work, and there's a lot of sci-fi babble and pseudo-physics involved to give you a feeling of disbelief.

As for the sci-fi babble and pseudo-physics, most of it was actually pre-established in the Ar tonelico series, not made for Surge Concerto to confuse players.

There's no reasoning with these idiots. The general did a strawpoll and it turned out most of them have never even touched a VN before.

Strange. I tried clicking through it like you at first, but when I realized that it didn't advance the game I tried loading, which apparently advanced the game 1/3 of a day, so I ended up loading a bunch of times to progress.

That's the impression I got from it. The way Monika says she's surprised that the game's script left you stuck there for the whole weekend suggested she knew ahead of time what had happened and why.

Also to add to this: it's shown on several occasions that Monika can directly control what the other characters say/do (e.g. Natsuki forgetting her argument with Yuri, having Natsuki tell you to forget about Yuri's problems)
