This is Survival Horror at its peak
This is Survival Horror at its peak
Dead Space is a better version of RE4.
Agreed
But by literal definitely survival horror is not resident evil 4
>Survival Horror
>Last boss is defeated by rocket launcher, with description indicating it is perfect for defeating the final boss
sh2
Dead Space has shit enemy variety and repetitive environments.
Close, but no cigar.
Name one better
Man, this game was great.
Playing it for the first time and experiencing the atmosphere in the village section is a memory I will never forget
sh2 is betta
Not quite.
I feel like the balancing could have used a little more tweeking so that semi-competent players weren't swimming in ammo by mid-game. I recognize that the programming involved would be monumental and the devs aired on the side of safety. Initial runs will always be hectic, but replays are piss easy, even on Professional.
>survival
Yea, it sure is difficult to survive against dipshit zombies while having more fuckin ammo than you know what to do with. The only difficult part was the annoying QTEs and taking care of the bimbo.
>horror
Literally not scary in the slightest except that one part with the burning zombie out of nowhere, which made me slightly jump.
and System Shock is a better version of Dead Space.
Amnesia the Dark Descent you turbo nigger
Silent Hill 2, Outlast, Condemned, and Fatal Frame II in first person on the Xbox are all loads better.
RE4 is a good game, but it's only particularly scary in one area.
And RE4 doesn't?
action-horror
and no, still not peak
no
>hard-ass alert
I do wish the creepy aesthetic had been kept beyond the village. The game almost gets back to that point in the medical wing with the Regenerators, but once you figure out how to deal with them, it isn't as bad.
No, it's third person shooting at its peak, ya dummy.
RE4 is fucking perfect but after the village they barely even tried to make it scary.
Also HEY I JUST STARTED RE-MAKE, SOMEBODY PLEASE HOLD ME
...
>Literally not scary in the slightest except that one part with the burning zombie out of nowhere, which made me slightly jump.
The first Regenerator was pretty spoopy
I'm not a hard-ass, I'm just telling it how it is. It was a really fun game, but it was not "survival" and it was not scary.
>Yea, it sure is difficult to survive against dipshit zombies while having more fuckin ammo than you know what to do with.
This describes pretty much all RE games.
What makes classic RE survival horror, and RE4-6 not, is where you get supplies. In classic RE, there are set weapon drops that you need to utilize. In RE4-on, you get weapon drops from defeating enemies.
I love RE4. It's a masterpiece in pacing and level design. But it ain't survival horror.
you have to take out most of his HP before ada throws you the launcher. it really doesn't change much, just saves you two or three more repetitions. i think it was more of a '''''''cinematic''''''''' decision.
>not defeating the boss without it
>not saving it to sell in New Game+
The original Resident Evil was better.
>needing money in NG+
Yeah, I don't believe for a second you were able to afford all the NG+ weapons with the money from one playthrough.
I honestly completely forgot those existed. They were spooky for a moment too.
System shock and dead space have nothing in common the fuck are you talking about. Don't tell me it's the "inspired by" meme
Even saying shock 2 has something in common is a stretch
congrats, missed the point entirely
Dead Space has better weapon and enemy variety compared to RE4. I still prefer RE4, but Dead Space 1 and 2 did a lot right and were directly inspired by RE4.
I know action-horror catches a lot of shit, but those games really were fucking fantastic. Better than the more pure "horror" games we have now were it's impossible to fight back against enemies.
>He can't afford the NG+ weapons in one playthrough
The Right Hand too.
They did it because it's a tradition to kill the final boss of an RE game with a rocket launcher.
It’s a third person shooter with some horror themes it’s not really survival horror good Halloween game though
i realize what you were saying, but you also made it sound like the rocket launcher was acquired before the battle. the description is basically just a joke at that point because it's fucking obvious that you have to use the rocket launcher to kill the twenty foot tall spider demon.
>have to use the rocket launcher
lol
>I have a feeling about those eyes...
Fucking top tier avatar. Stolen as fuck.
now you're just nit picking. i'm gonna go get blown by your sister, thanks.
That's action horror
But it's much more third person shooter than it is survival horror.
It's a damn good game, but I'm giving the nod to REmake.
if that's what you want to call that warm bedside melon of yours, go right ahead bro
Ummm....
I love the game and I don't care what others say, it's a good survival horror, but it's also more of an action game than horror. I'd have to give that title to Silent Hill 2.
Action horror, perhaps. Survival horror, wouldn't even consider it part of the genre. I think The Evil Within is more of a survival horror experience honestly. Worse action horror, but it tries harder to recall genre hallmarks like resource management and the notion of fighting or fleeing encounters, and that's without even mentioning the genuine classics but rather to point out just how far removed from the genre we are here. RE4's great at what it is but what it is is a shooting gallery with a spookier than usual skin 90% of the time.
Both Dead Space and Evil Within 2 and probably even 1 are better than RE4.
Literally the only outstanding thing about RE4 was the village part and that's 30% of the game. The castle is meh and the island is absolutely horrible trash.
Given that there's more of an emphasis on battling and more nuance to the violent parts, there is technically more gravity placed on "survival" at given moments, even if not as much in the long haul like in older entries.
To its credit, RE4 is pretty scary in its own way. There's something about looking over Leon's shoulder as you back up while cornered by a mob of lumbering villagers with pitchforks that the older games didn't have; again, the additional depth and nuance to the combat allowed for situations more vivid than just a zombie coming at you. There was also a good balance of violence and absence of violence that built up tension quite well.
underrated post
Horror isn't just being scary.
First few minutes were scary since you don't even know what you're up against, the forest atmosphere was outstanding back then (or even still this day), that alarm with everyone chasing you was crazy.
Dialogues and action were just a bit too cheesy to maintain the spook factor, though.
Is this actually a camel toe on the left?
>System shock and dead space have nothing in common
>stuck on a space ship
>shooter with RPG elements
>body horror
Yeah, I see no similarities between those games whatsoever.
Rocket launchers on the final boss is a staple of RE.
