People with Oculus Rifts, can you tell me if it's worth it now at $400? What games do you regularly play on it? I might be getting one soon as a gift but if it's really not worth it, I'd rather tell them not to spend that much money. The only thing that really caught my eye was the arcade room where you can play roms

I'm interested as well because in yuroland the Vive is 250 eurobucks more expensive.
On the other hand the Vive does roomscale out of the box, and I've heard the rift is fucking terrible with glasses.
So, is it shit? Should I pay up and get the Vive?
Truncated version of my tale
>shitpost about how terrible VR will be because too poor
>gets price cut earlier this year
>can afford it so want to try with the intent of reselling it after seeing how terrible it is
>buy one
>it's actually mind blowing so keep it
>use it daily, especially for porn
>just recently discovered how awesome multiplayer games are with it
>now I'm positive it's the future
These are the games that get the most play time for me:
H3VR - basically you slip on your headset and go to any number of gun ranges and just mess around with guns and ammo
Raw Data - Proper game with co-op and versus modes that's kinda similar to killing floor but you have super powers
Robo Recall - This is the best fucking thing ever but very short. Sort of action comedy about being attacked by robots. You can liken the scoring system to Devil May Cry, where you're rewarded for creative takedowns. Very fast pace and the list of things you can do is quite long.
Also it offers a lot stuff you can use for creativity as well. A lot of software is free too. Like this one called Quill, which is a painting program that allows you to paint in the air, in 3D, all around you. Another is the same thing but for 3D modelling.
how good is the porn for it? also, are the games available to pirate easily? I don't think I could afford paying for every $40 tech demo that catches my interest
Rift owner here. Rift or Vive- you can't really go wrong. VR has a bunch of cool games, but truly lacks that AAA 'killer app' that pushes you to invest. What I'm talking about is a game like Halo 3, Bloodborne or Mario that pushes what can be done with vidya. Most ppl in VR invest because they're in it for VR, not necessarily the games that exist atm.
That being said- there are good shit. Most Oculus exclusives are pretty good. Recently we got Artika.1 (time-crisis like telenodr shooter from Metro devs set in a futuristic Russain arctic). Robo Recall (arcadey FPS made by Epic Games) is also really fun. And ofc theres tons of SteamVR games like Superhot, Serious Sam, Arizona Sunshine, Space Pirate Trainer, etc. Plus modded VR games too like Doom 3 and Alien Isolation.
Downsides with the Rift is indeed the shit-tier tracking solution that requires you buying 2 more sensors (and needing 4 high-bandwidth USB ports), but honestly thats rectified pretty easily. Vive's biggest problem is how fucking badly produced the controllers are and LG's terrible customer suppourt. Vive trackpads can breakdown over time (bad ribbon cable) in contrast to Rift's 100x more ergonomic and smaller controllers. But once the Steam knuckles releases along with the new Pixmax headset- only thing Rift would have going for it is price + exclusives.
Feel free to ask any more questions. Overall its an expensive hobby, but I'm really enjoying VR atm. But I'd reccomend waiting for Gen2 VR.
thanks for the in depth responses
any guesses when gen 2 VR will be revealed?
Personally I'd say Gen2 hits full swing in 2019-2020 when Rift 2 is predicted to be released.
Right now SteamVR headsets is in a interesting position where its not really split up into "Gens" since anybody can make their own SteamVR headsets. Personally I'd consider the Pixmad 8K headset + SteamVR Knuckles controllers "Gen 1.5".
The porn is fantastic- and by fantastic I mean Honey Select. Make your ideal waifu (or copy a modded one online) then bust a nut in POV. The sense of presence and 3D depth (being able to physically move around and have it register in-game) really adds to the fap experience. Pic related.
>the arcade room where you can play roms
They look like absolute garbage. Pick up a SNES and a PVM, you'll jizz your fucking eyeballs out.
I don't ever pirate so can't help you with that info but Steam allows you to endlessly purchase and refund to try games without losing money but the bundle actually comes with a ton of free software and games and then titles get made free as time goes on as well.
But you're not wrong about the prices of some of the more "must-have" titles. Extremely expensive for the paltry amount of content they offer. They're out of their minds charging $40 or $50 for a 2-hour 'experience'. That said, there are some studios out there that just want to make good games that are also affordable and you can get really good titles for $20 and under.
And the porn is excellent if you get videos that are of proper quality but some of the file sizes go well over 20gb for a little over an hour of footage. Those videos are very high quality though. Very clear image, 60fps and the videos are filmed with proper lens calibration. It really does seem like you're really there as that dude in some expensive house in the California hills banging models.
I feel like VR's just going to fade away and we won't get another go at it until like 5 years from now. There just aren't enough games to warrant investing several hundred dollarydoos into a VR setup. Am I being too pessimistic?
Any page names ?
page names?
Maybe. The thing is that Oculus (Facebook), Valve, Playstation and now even Chinese companies are throwing their weight around. That doesn't necessarily mean the market won't die- but what it does mean is that these companies are investing with the notion that they're in for the long-term (5+ years) than the short-term (1-2 years).
Oculus invested in a exclusive Respawn AAA FPS coming out in 2019 along with Oculus Rift 2 somewhere in 2019-2020. It'll be interesting to see what happens until then.
How do you set up Honey Select for vr?
If you care about roomscale then Vive will only be 190 Eurobucks more expensive (buy straight from Oculus or you will be rectally ravaged by some third party retailers for over double the price) but Vive will supposedly still do roomscale a bit better even on a three camera setup due to the available space being larger (I say supposedly because for the most part the Rift system works well enough for me in most situations).
Concerning Robo Recall I would state that while it is fun to play a very minor caveat is the incredibly cringeworthy humor. It can sometimes be "lol cat pictures" and "you win an internet" levels of dumb.
Just install Honey Select with the DLCs + mods you want (ex. Wide Select Slider). Then copy paste the VR mod ontop of your HS install:
Is there a way to get the VR interface to be in English? My game is in english but the interface are in japanese.
Owner of a few months here.
I can give a quick rundown.
The oculus + touch controllers are at this pricepoint pretty great, VR isn't perfect yet but it sure does build a layer on games. It feels like a second coming of arcade gaming sometimes as there are lots of cheap fun games around.
I've yet to play any multiplayer games but singleplayer experiences like robo recall, Subnautica and Superhot are well done.
Although be warned, you may get sick if you're playing games in which your character is actually moving, much like getting car sick. I've heard that people can build tolerance for this though, i'm starting to feel less dizzy when playing these kind of games. Robo recall and Superhot use teleportation instead which eliminate this problem.
Ask me anything if you want to know more.
I'd recommend trying Virt-A-Mate if you're looking for great porn games. It's uglier than Honey Select, but it has a crazy amount of freedom, and the best soft-body physics I've ever seen in a video game.
>daily (((porn))) use
youtu.be
yes there are English translations knocking about
Idort with a Rift here. It's ok for Porn and Dev/Art stuff. Games? Not so much yet.
What's with Honey Select's VR controls? They are absolute dogshit and there's no explanation of them anywhere. How do you even trigger POV?
POV is done with mods I think.
The controls are indeed dogshit and built with the Vive trackpads in mind. For pleasure, you gotta "click" the sticks and move em' around until you get the slow/fast speeds you want. I never figured out how exactly they worked.
>shitpost about how terrible
This is the cancer that ruins the fucking website. Please never do such a thing again.
I'm sorry but I can't promise that. It seems to be a cognitive coping mechanism of human nature.
>can you tell me if it's worth it now at $400?
No. Rent it if you can. Novelty wears out in a few days.
I'm hyped as fuck for subnautica in vr when prices come down. I hope they refine the the contols a bit so you can swim belly up just under the surface.
Now that's a video made for normalfags. The example in it assumes that men who watch porn ever wanted to associate themselves with 3DPD. What if I dislike the idea of being with woman? What if there's no one I want to commit to or have ever wanted to commit to? What if I prefer perfect 2D beings?
I agree with the sentiment though, porn is a cancer sucking people's time and energy, stuff that could've been used on better things. And the jew is always trying to take advantage of it.
Not him but I'm pretty hyped to play Subnautica, whenever I hear that they've improved the performance. I actually already own the game but have heard that it runs really badly in VR.
bump
This thread convinced me to get a Vive. Good job shillanons.

Really gets your shrimps sizzlin
As expected. Everyone hates VR, and even more hate anything that has any association with Facebook. The only threads that blow up are VRChat threads because weebs.
I know just the place you belong
But it's the truth, why else do you think there's such a stark contrast in the amount of posts between these threads? Some component is preference people have of things that aren't VR, some part is preference of things that aren't Facebook, and some part is preference of things that have "impressive" value (be it positive or negative) because shitposters love taking advantage of that stuff.
Is this a shitpost?
