wut?
The first game was great, though. What are you talking about? What disaster was there?
they promised waifus but we didn't get enough money to get THE waifu as a full companion
people have false hope there can be a crpg as good as the old ones.
>great
Overselling it a bit. Alexander was Great and he was one of history's most successful military commanders, PoE is an OKAY cRPG with entire towns populated with nothing but cringy Kickstarter OCs.
They're trying to make her look not ugly. They're not succeeding.
>disaster
nope, most people liked the game
haters came from rpg codex, the place where anything that's not d&d bg2 is shit
poe replaced filler peasants with kickstarter characters. who gives a shit? speaking to most of the peasant npcs in baldur's gate was a total waste of time.
filler peasants don't have coloured names straight out of bad fanfiction and aren't the fucking godlikes
>coloured names
just ignore any character with a gold nameplate. simple. maybe too simple for your downy ass
you are accomplishing nothing by trying to switch the subject
Literally most NPCs, every time I see a character in an RPG I expect some cool personality, quip or world building but 90% of the time in PoE I'm met with a fucking awful story no one asked for.
>strawmanning this hard
This game was a failure at every single aspect other than music and background art.
There is a reason why tyranny failed so hard because people realized this trash was a cashgrab made by hacks for nostalgiafags so don't get too excited for any future cashgrab isometric CRPGs from obsidian because they won't keep making them if poe 2 won't sell enough like tyranny did.
>every time I see a character in an RPG I expect some cool personality, quip or world building
so you've never played baldur's gate then
>There is a reason why tyranny failed so hard because people realized this trash was a cashgrab made by hacks for nostalgiafags
Explain this, faggot.
>There is a reason why tyranny failed so hard because people realized this trash was a cashgrab made by hacks for nostalgiafags so don't get too excited for any future cashgrab isometric CRPGs from obsidian because they won't keep making them if poe 2 won't sell enough like tyranny did.
then how come poe2 earned more from crowdfunding?
This game isn't a Baldur's Gate remake, why are you even bringing it up?
...
But Tyranny was good.
>every time I see a character in an RPG I expect some cool personality, quip or world building
What games do this for every character? And you need to name more than 1 because you're acting like that's an established thing that every RPG is doing.
Shut the fuck up kid.
Toootally excited. I loved PoE after playing it this year, and I backed PoE2.
I just finished Planescape Torment, too, and that was nice.
Random NPCs in BG have infinitely more life in them than in poe.
from little i've heard about codex, they like underrail above the most modern crpg, so i'd say they have a way better taste than obsidishits here
Fallout, Planescape, Diablo 1 & 2
It's because way too many characters in PoE only exist to be wiki entries into the world. It's a real shame. Sawyer honestly should stay far away from storytelling and stick just to gameplay systems.
>Fallout
M8 please. You're right about Planescape though; almost everyone had something to say in that game.
I would be fine with it if the world was actually interesting, but it's such a fucking boring and grey piece of shit that trying to slog through their wiki articles causes physical pain.
Because for the first couple hours you can fool yourself that you're playing something good
once you get past that you realize pretty much everything is fucking terrible
...
Is this guy right?
In Fallout I feel like there's at least a way more solid ratio between filler NPCs and ones that at least have an interesting quip to say. In PoE every single damn NPC in the first tavern was a Kickstarter OC that you couldn't even interact with and call a faggot.
Note: I'm talking about the Black Isle and Obsidian Fallouts, never touched a Bethesda one.
>the exact same retarded nostalgiafags with stockholm syndrome keep paying to hacks to get their nostalgia boner tickled because they see a few mentions to Infinity Engine games at option menus and a hound with black furs walks by you because this is Baldur's Gate 2™'s Spiritual Sequel™ made by Obsidian Entertainment™, makers of games like Fallout™ New Vegas™ (we don't even have a single guy left from that one working with us now lol also we changed a lot of guys after the first PoE too but don't worry it still says Obsidian Entertainment™ at the splash screen XD)
>this somehow means the games initial success at sales
Funny part is you are showing me the success of the marketing campaign that I mentioned not a sales numbers of a finished product but I won't make a strawman by calling you a backer for the augments sake :^)
Indeed it was good at making you bored.
no u
Bethesda Fallouts have more significant insignificant NPCs than the originals do, dude,
They do but the overall stories and mechanics suck so nobody cares in the end
No because both SRR and POE are pretty awful crpgs. One's soulless and generic and the other is a Mobile Game.
go back to rpg codex, you jaded drone
Oh, I have no clue. The originals' NPCs are still more lively than the fan fiction tier story dumps that make up 90% of PoE NPCs.
Kickstarter NPCs were a mistake and they did not do them well at all.
>All these buzzwords
The game is already a success because it's all profit. People enjoyed the first one and they want the second.
god those KS npcs were painful at times
i stopped talking to them before too long
>Sawyer honestly should stay far away from storytelling and stick just to gameplay systems.
Sawyer's fucking terrible at gameplay systems.
Shadowrun games are literally mobile garbage
user please, how am I supposed be a nostalgiafag who jacks off to decade old games when I'm also one of the many people that sees through their shady marketing campaigns targeted to same audience?
If all you care about is not going bankrupt instead of making a nice game then yeah you are right they stroke gold on that one because they can continue the backer campaign business indefinitely as long as some retards keeps paying for their promises without needing anyone else buying the finished game other than their same backers.
Wasn't most of the money from "investors"? They lost plenty of backers between the two games
funding as seen on the kickstarter and fig are all backed monies, not non-campaign monies.
Pillars of Eternity was a great game and I don't see why the second one won't be too. Clearly a lot of people agree with me, because they backed the game. It's a good time to be an RPG fan.
>poe replaced filler peasants with kickstarter characters. who gives a shit?
They ruined the game. Peasants are peasants. These are eyesores. Any book or movie that introduces 1 000 characters of no importance is shit.
>But you can just ignore them
>you can just ignore the game's faults
Oh I did, and I was left with nothing. Shit game with no content.
This is a problem with your mental disposition if something so small can RUIN a this for you. You should have killed all of them, anyway.
Stop giving him (you)s.
>preordered best game for $29
>basically HALF the price for a complete game
Also I get a special In-Game Item for free.
It's made by Obsidian btw
Just an excuse to bump the thread desu senpai
What's the point of this screenshot.
Not him, but I thought it was funny.
>who gives a shit
The people who play the game?
Image anything from a movie to a novel with the same type of backer deal where the audience constantly getting bombarded with some cringy devianart-tier homoerotic scenes between self insert OC donutsteels and their waifus written by some fans who gave a few bucks to the content creator.
>b-but you can ignore it cuz it's a game!
Well though luck this is not an argument because you can ignore the whole fucking game by simply uninstalling too but this won't change the fact that you paid to some faggots devianart bio and injected it to your poor computer.
The first one wasn't a disaster at all though.
It was generally well received, and while it wasn't a masterpiece they pretty solidly delivered what they set out to make.
It's sitting at 89 on meta-critic with a 82 userscore and 83% positive reviews on Steam.
I don't see how you could possibly argue that that constitutes a "Disaster"
I posted it cause it made me laugh when I encountered it.
Because the average "gamer" is completely ignorant to games and is a complete slave to hype. The popularity of sites like reddit promote this way of thinking where you play what you think gives you the most gamer cred regardless of if you actually like it. This extends to PoE because the devs have a reputation of being hardcore pc devs making true pc rpgs for true pc boys, so every retard who hears about these cult classics theyll never play(due to being 'outdate') sees a big flashy kickstarter and thinks "WOW! finally I can show everyone how good my taste is by buying this game three+ years before it will come out"
Can't believe this game is coming to consoles? What the hell is that gonna be like? Will anyone on those platforms even care? Love the game, but such a weird idea to me.
The second game isn't being made for consoles yet. The first one wasn't and it's apparently a success but it must be a huge pain in the ass to play.
>any hard truth about my stockholm syndrome condition I can't face with is b8
It's truly sad to see this dreadful denial happen to obsidian fans after I saw it happened countless times to nintendo, valve, bioware, bethesda, blizzard, rare, pirhana bytes and many more I can't even remember now.
You gotta let go of that splash screen my man, it isn't the woman you once loved anymore :'(
Pillars of Eternity was a good game. As long as that quality keeps up, I will continue enjoying Obsidian's output.
>Obsidian
>Can make some of sharpest edges in the world
>Obsidian Entertainment
>Sharpest writing in the world
Really makes you think
damn...
>Overselling it a bit
>entire towns populated with nothing but cringy Kickstarter OCs.
Yeah, you surely possess a keen sense for exaggeration.
Vanilla PoE is kind of bland, but WM more than made up for it. Kind of frustrating how much more climactic it is than the actual encounter with Thaos, though. Looking forward to slapping Eothas' shit like I did with Ondra.
Thaos was cooler than Ondra. That voice actor was great.
But Act 4 didn't come with the stat/ability-based CYOA segment that could permanently kill your companions. Breaking Durance during the Gods' quests was fun, at least.
>mfw Zahua survived banging the crystal and could carry his legacy on to the next generation
Because people never learn and that causes history to be cyclical.
>when the Devil just walks out from the bottom of the lake like nothing happened
Best girl after Iselmyr
There are way too many ways of getting saved. I just happened to put an helmet somewhere on the stack and it still saved me.
Yeah, the Diving Helmet save is too easy. IIRC you can make it stricter by changing stash rules to "rest only."
>come up with interesting character concept
>mechanics make it shit
Nah. No bad builds is a pretty good goal.
Is that Odor? kek wtf this game is going to be a mess
Odor?
since it was launched, i've been asking Sup Forums if this game was worth buying ,especially during the various steam sales, and i've always been told no and that its a major disappointment that didn't live up to the hype
now that deadfire is coming out, suddenly i see more posts saying it was 2015s goty and flawless. seriously, i'm not buying it shills.
It's good, but not great. Better than tyranny or numenera, at least.
its not very hard to be better than those 2 games. is it better than Divinity Original Sin 2?
I really hated Divinity OS, so I would say it probably is. Better writing, classic sort of cRPG gameplay.
It's basically BG1 when everyone was expecting BG2.
Yes, honestly. Much better writing.
were quests designed like FONV/Alpha Protocol where theres lots of ways to explore and complete a mission, either through stealth, guile, exporation, talking to other npcs, persuasion, combat, some skill check etc. and lots of intertwining quests that are connected with each other ?
>and i've always been told no and that its a major disappointment that didn't live up to the hype
It has 83% on steam and an 8.3 user score on metacritic. Something tells me you have a selective memory.
I know I'm replying to an old post, but my main problem with them is that a large amount of kickstarter NPCs are godlikes, which are supposed to be rare.
Kind of immersion breaking when NPCs are going on about how rare godlikes are when there's 5 of them in the same area.
Not to picture related's extent, no.
There were a number of occurrences where I could have approached quests in different ways, and sometimes I tried to follow these routes and fucked up and it wasn't just because I didn't roll high enough.
I don't really sympathize with people who care about immersion this much, but you really can just see those things (or don't, ignore them completely) as fake non-canon NPCs.
I played as a Godlike myself, so maybe I didn't care as much about this as you did because of that.
no i don't. i asked every steam sale if thiss and shadowrun and all the other new kickstarter CRPGs that have been coming out are any good and i was always told no unanimously, if people had been tellingg me they were good i would've bought them. and a bunch of shitty games can get high steam and metacritic scores so they are not an indication of a good game to me when FONV can get a low 80 while brainlet rpgs like FO3 and FO4 can get just as good or better
wonder what this retard was talking about.
NV has a user score of 8.9.
It varies. There's a major sidequest in each settlement that has a lot of moving parts, but quest design on the whole isn't as good as NV.
8.6*
>nostalgiafags have inaccurate memories of the old ones and/or enjoy really shitty game design
The majority of Sup Forums consists of people who would never play a game like this, or Divinity, or Shadowrun. This game was also kickstarted, which is a major trigger for almost everyone here. Then, Sup Forums has always been a community of people who like to taunt a rise out of people, so hating a game just to be able to shitpost is obviously appealing. But then you do have the people who played this and didn't like it for whatever nostalgic reason, they weren't willing to engage with it, or they simply didn't like it. Asking Sup Forums about this game AT LAUNCH and in the normiest pits of Steam Sale threads is of course going to get you a response that tells you "no that game is shit" for almost anything that isn't in the Sup Forums top 10.
Ask people who are able to articulate their reasons, the masses don't know shit and won't tell you shit if you press them.
Try Underrail.
Also fo3 has a 7.9 and fo4 has 5.4.
I like her, she has a very "strict schoolteacher/librarian" look.
why don't you guys go play a game, this probably isn't the best way to stave of boredom.
My pc killed itself and I'm stuck on a laptop that can't even play 720p youtube videos. I'd much rather be playing SoW or elex right now.
