the japs thought they were unprofitable and wanted the jump the waifu train with summon night dating sims. Man, the swordcraft story games were awesome, especially the setting in the first one.

I really enjoyed the GBA ones but how are the mainline ones? Didn't they do a few recently?

The mainline ones play like more traditional SRPG but still have the same charming setting, nice character designs, and stuff like picking your Guardian Beast and being able to get different endings depending on what characters you interact with.

Only problem is only two of them have been officially translated and both are done by Gaijinworks which may be the only localization company worse than fucking NISA.

idk shit about the gameplay, I just didn't like any of the designs/personalities

So yeah, this is a ghetto-ass 2D Tales clone with crafting and some rather dumb combat mechanics. I'm guessing you can get creative with Guardian Beasts and weapon choices later in the game, but everything still seems basic bitch as hell.

Some of my favorite games I keep throwing around the idea of making my own clone of it but throwing in a bit more advanced crafting system for weapons. I feel like I wouldn't be able to live up to the writing and style though.
