Wow this thread again
>only one that's bad is the only one that isn't a physical object
hmm
>yfw you see the Loss
does this image mean to imply you'd need to be as simple as a child to get enjoyment from loot boxes? lol
At least they have some value
imagine being so pathetic you pay money for a chance at virtual content you value above other virtual content
Yes, they are a completely legitimate application of cosmetics as a means to acquire additional revenue. If you don't like them, don't buy them.
Yeah they're fine.
They might be a symptom of a bad industry, but overall they're fine.
It's up to consumers and personal responsibility at this point to make the decision if they want more of this or not.
>Journey Into Nyx
>Good
who cares Id never buy one
i just use free credits
in ow the only things any good are voicelines which are 25 credits or emotes which are 250 and you could get thousands of free credits with just playing an hour or two.
if you mean pubg the only things worth any actual tactical advantage are the black clothes which are like $2 total which you can get a crate or two by literally winning like 2 games.
literally who gives a fuck
The only one that isn't shit on that list is the Kinder egg
The chocolate is the main purchase, the toy is just a bonus
>if you don't like genocide just ignore it!
>if you don't like people stabbing you just ignore it!
>if you don't like slavery just don't buy anyone!
>if you don't like loot boxes just don't buy one!
For me personally, paying real money to own a real, physical random card/toy is less unreasonable than paying real money for an in-game random reward.
A poor analogy would be paying a hooker with real money vs. paying real money for a hooker in a new GTA game.
In a year where procedurally generated knife skins can cost up to 30k and more it's dumb to think that intangiblke goods have no value
>Phyical, tangible objects you can own
>digital goods that can be easily taken away if a server crashes
shit bait
>comparing loot boxes to genocide.
made my day holy shit.
>Murder and slavery on the same level of evil as lootboxes
i hate lootboxes but fuck your shit.
...
Came here to post this.
CCGs in general are shit, LCGs where you get a full playset immediately and the game is balanced around everyone having full access to all cards in the game are much better.
> lootcrate
didnt know this existed
is it subscription only? how much for (1) crate?
>lootcrate
>good
lmao
I think that it's important to note that you get something every time, but what you're getting still could be/is a shit value. If gambling worked like loot boxes did, you'd bet 2.50 and get at least 3-5 cents back every time. You're still losing almost all your money, but is the fact that you get something everytime enough to "make it ok"? The picture implies that card packs are on the same level as loot boxes-something that the ESRB has come out and said recently, but what do y'all think?
shillfaggot just google,
tl;ds it's funko pops and other tat by mail and you don't get to pick what's in the box.
>Cards, are real, can be traded, and are social
>Toys, are real, can be traded
>Chocolate, with a bonus toy
>redditcrate, go back
>gambling for virtual goods, cannot be traded.
>>Murder and slavery on the same level of evil as lootboxes
I don't care about murder and slavery as much as I care about complaining about lootboxes
pray islam never takes hold of your homeland because that's all they bring.
Basic plan is 16 bucks a month, and you get a variety of nerd/geek shit ranging from video games to movies/tv shows and comic books once a month. Every month has a theme and different shows and etc featured. Check out some unboxings on youtube for an idea of what you'll get.
>somebody makes a comparison, using extreme examples to highlight their point
>response isn't why the comparisons are invalid just "dude you can't compare things bro!"
you guys suck at abstraction
I'm honestly fine with loot boxes when the rewards are purely cosmetic.
What isn't fine, though, is making significant portions of the game tedious and nigh unplayable unless you buy the random-chance gamblecrates.
Pic fucking related.
no they're not
Is nobody going to call OP out for still making rage comics?
When developers use microtransactions as pay to win OR reduce in game unlockables with the intention that people will have to buy lootboxes, then its pathetic and anti consumer
Loose packs are shit, loot crates are shit, gashapon and kinder eggs have a guarantee of getting a toy.
Loot boxes cost one dollar with no guarantee at a skin or legendary skin which is what most people buy loot boxes for. You'll probably spend on average 20-25+ boxes for one skin and that's if you don't luck out.
>Check out some unboxings on youtube for an idea of what you'll get.
FUCKING INFLATABLE FUCKING CROWNS
if you think in abstract ways you're a stupid libtard and can't be taken seriously anyway.
You can just not play those games. Hating lootboxes and avoiding games with them is absolutely fine, but if you support banning them you're a commie.
HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT?
IF YOU DON'T LIKE LOOT BOXES, DON'T BUY THEM.
Fucking retards
Oh look, they are all garbage and intentionally meant to appeal to and rip off children.
Really gets the ol noggin joggin.
>making a rage comic in the year of our lord 2017
Fuck off OP
cosmetic lootboxes are fine
p2w lootboxes are not fine
The comparisons are invalid because lootboxes don't pull people out into streets and decapitate them slowly in front of their families.
They give you a blue recolor in a video game
user, you can actually talk about the subject matter of a shitpost thread as long as you don't take the bait.
yes
if someone like me with more money than time can resist buying them, anyone can
the only problem I have with blizzard's lootboxes is how every new skin they release ends up being confined to these "limited time only" loot boxes, which is pretty blatantly exploitative and also leaves a huge drought in content because 90% of what they've released is skins that you can't get anymore
you can buy the shit on ebay.
Loot crates have artificial scarcity.
also lootcrates aren't what the entire game is about, so if I say wanted to avoid it but I wanted to play overwatch? I can't/.
>booster pack (physical) has cards you can trade/sell
>gacha machine gives you something very similar every time
>kinder egg has chocolate which is half the fun
>lootcrate fucks everyone over the same, no exceptions
...
i swear ashens has done more harm than good for the lootcrate brand. i'm sure they stopped sending him crates on purpose because he most always has something snide to say about the package.
and from what i seen, they're all pretty shit, with funko pops and funko dorbs and shoelaces and what other tat they can fit in a box. i much rather like the retro boxes he opened with the actual video games.
>no food analogy
step up senpai
but i dont approve of any of those things in the picture  HYPERLUL
>are micro-transactions fine
No.
What is csgo, tf2, rl
>if you don't like cannibalism just ignore it
happy?
False equivalence.
Lootbox rewards are intangible and cannot be traded. I actually got two Gold skins in Overwatch in a row, but
>Roadhog
>Reaper
As characters I don't play this shit avails me not. If I could trade them for the Zenyatta skin I actually wanted maybe they'd have some use, but they're account bound and so they'll never see the light of day.
Me not buying lootboxes isn't going to make lootboxes go away, which is what I actually want; you see, I have self control, but greedy publishers and dopamine/instant gratification-addicted consumers with too much money do not.
>buying boosters like a bunch of retards
You either buy boxes or singles. Don't be a dumb fuck.
what do you have against capsule machines? they're not forcing you to insert your coins for homie figurines.
It's $26 a month and you're guaranteed to get at least $45 worth of merchandise. You have to be poor or stupid not to get loot crate.
no I just like complaining about things. it was a shit analogy btw
>I know a guy who drops 60 USD on lootboxes per event.
"if you don't like them dont buy them" doesn't hold water anymore since you get actual upgrades and abilities in loot crates now, thus giving you objective statistical advantages over others due to RNG. BF2 may have drawn a lot of attention with this but I'm expecting bioware's anthem to up the level of horseshit lootbox shenanigans to a level nobody could anticipate, if someone was going to do it it would be bioware, who else could it be?
My friends at another forum seem to think they are fine, ignore all the other threads in my image, they are not related to this topic.
>lootbox approval
>bootleg rageface from reddit
The fact that OP as not referred to as a faggot within the first post tells me that I have been gone from Sup Forums for far too long
>This thread again
For the 1st 4 examples, you just pay money once and receive the product
For lootboxes, you're already paying 60 bucks for a game upfront
Imagine if you needed to buy a 60 dollar MTG license before you were allowed to purchase or play with MTG cards, that's what video games are doing
I did do that at first, but now thier just being shoehorned into every release and you can't just stick your fingers in your ears and go "this will all be fine and won't get any worse"
>implying a tshirt, some stickers, a funko pop and pin is worth 45 dollars
6 dollars for everything if bought from the chinese source.
NCPs in single player games will allow you to buy consumables/equipment for irl money.
Buying a game used to and still should mean that you buy everything within that game, and can achieve it with regularity through playing.
Video games that pander to children should not pressure those children into spending their family's money to gamble, as underage gambling is illegal.
>60 dollars per event
What the fuck.
I come from Japanese phone games, and there are people who spend 750 dollars every WEEK on costumes for anime girls.
but it's not gambling since you're guaranteed to get something :^)
The power of waifus is a dangerous one.
it's not gambling because you're not given a chance to win your money back.
what? who the fuck are these people? how are they able to afford this? are they insane? isn't this technically exploiting the mentally ill?
did you fall on the concrete and suffer some kind of brain damage
You're assuming it's a significant portion of their money.
Japanese salarymen can afford that easily. Sure, for only 1, maybe 2 games, but they can.
...
Speaking of, one I follow just went online.
youtu.be
Every 2500 is 25 dollars.
well they're ruining video games for everybody and they need to stop, people are literally able to pay for power and if left unchecked, only the rich will be able to win at video games
Mark my words, a sealed box of that shit is gonna be worth like $500 someday
Maybe they are shit they've taken over too many aspects of videogames and are being forced down our throats?
They had a guy who ended up selling his house to get pic related. Which is hilarious when you consider how much a figure would probably cost.
Mostly it's salarymen. But in Japan they even have arcade games that are linked to the mobage most of the time.
People buy mtg boosters to play draft and limit, only retards buy them for the chance at making money back. Regardless, they at least give you something that has monetary worth on a secondary market.
The only time when lootboxes are okay is when they bring no gameplay advantage, offer an alternative way to getting a specific item (coins from tasks that reset every few days) and/or trade
Also,>gumball machine in the image
But a figurine wont jiggle and play soundclips when you poke it or whatever they put into those mobage to make it more appealing.
>gumball machine
theyre the quarter machines with random shitty toys in them
That's a gashapon.
Well I mean you can hot glue it.
This. At least pick a good set if you're gonna meme on us OP.
As long as it's cosmetics from them then I couldn't give a fuck.
Nu-Battlefront 2 is the worst example, since you only get star cards which are essentially perks through them, plus they come in different raritys that improve them even more. One example I saw was a gives your ship a health boost, with the lowest tier giving something like a 25% health increase, and the top tier about 100%.
Valve has been doing lootboxes for a decade. Why are people only getting angry about it now?
Seeing somebody piss so much money away is quite surreal.
Because they lowered the bar.
Check his channel for actual gameplay videos, it's honestly worth it if you're a dirty weeb. I wish I had this much money to blow on all the cards I like.
Name one game they made where "lootboxes" contained anything pertaining to gameplay that wasn't weapons in the early years of TF2 that you could obtain by earning or cheating achivements with SAM anyway.
>It's up to the 1% of consumers who have no sense of personal responsibility at this point to make the decision if everyone wants more of this or not.
Fixed
Imagine ZUN had taken up on any of the many offers he got for his toho IP.
Because valve can do no wrong you fag.
PRAISE THE GABE
Mosaic.wav is great. I always liked Figu@Carnival's OP more though:
>genocide = lootboxes
And here we have the meme that could have left us with paid mods.
Because they were purely cosmetic. With the exception of TF2 which went several years without lootboxes before they added them and the game became F2P. Also you could actually sell them, giving you ownership of their contents to some extent. Valve is the only company that lets people override the lootbox system entirely and just buy/sell their contents directly.
This wouldn't be an issue if EA, Microsoft, and WB didn't cross the line by making them non cosmetic and adding them to full priced +$60 games.
