The team that does Animal Crossing is going to be busy for at least the next year working on Splatoon 2 support so little spinoff games are all they can do for now.

Well at the very least we'll likely still have the basics of villagers moving in and talking to them considering all the other mobile games kept the core elements of their games (at the basic level).
