So, did the old cellphones in the late 90s and early-to-mid 2000s have any good games? Before the smartphone era.

Well I'm asking about people's opinions.
Im' curious if there's even something memorable from back then. Most of the games on mobile were trash, far worse than wat we have now.
Snake and Bounce.
Nokia had a good space shooter on their OS
Ratchet and Clank
Millions of untranslated SMT games
Nokia had Snake and that shooter.
Other than that I think only Japan might have gotten decent phone games.
Elder Scrolls RPGs
I had a shitty flip phone with a little isometric version of Katamari Damacy on it around 2005-2008, the controls kind of sucked but there was a lot of shit to collect in these maze like levels, and the soundtrack was decent MIDI versions of the games main themes.

I used to play it in class or at lunch, all around a fun little game.
They had THE game.
Tetris.
I played word mole on my blackberry like crazy
Sometimes I wanna give up my smart phone and go back to an old flip phone or something but having a computer in my pocket is too damn useful.
I haven't owned a cellphone for about 5 years now, i don't understand the point in having one I've never found my life more difficult without a cellphone. I use a home phone that costs me $10 a month and I have unlimited calls, and it works when there's a blackout. Meanwhile everyone's crying about their $50 phone bills
Oh fuck you, I just lost the game.
Smart phones being phones is almost an after thought these days. It's not why people buy them.
the flip phone meme is dumb as fuck, my buddy considers himself smart for sticking with his but he can't even view half of the pictures I send him. he always bugs me to look stuff up for him when we go out and it's annoying af
I don't know why people buy them honestly, there's pay phones in all public buildings, libraries, government buildings, malls, subway stations, railway stations.
Pro tip, they aren't buying it because it's a phone.
Literally doesn't cross any one's mind when deciding which one to get.
then why the hell you send pictures to someones phone? mms are shit and have always been.
It can take pictures, browse the web and play music. That's what matters.
People are more prone to texting than calling someone this days, anyway.
Yes user that was the best period for mobile games. Ton of solid games. Loved Price of Persia and Guitar Hero on mobile.
Smartphones killed mobile gaming.
So why then?
Seems pointless, you can do all that at home with your camera and computer. The only good thing about the phone is it's portable but when you're out why use it? You walk into people and onto the street (seen it happen) and at work you can't use it anyway so what's the point?
You sound like a complete fucking autist, holy shit.
no, the games were mostly shit. you couldn't really do much with J2ME and 64kb/128kb of ram
t.oldfag mobile game developer
I remember playing Splinter Cell while on breaks in school.
I also happened to have a Nokia Symbian phone and could send the .jar files to friends over bluetooth.
That period was phone gaming Valhalla.
it's not a meme. every old person i've met with a flip phone is fucking terrified of the future. they wish we could all go back to that comfy cold war. this new one is too scary
maybe someday we'll be complaining about having to pay fees to have our brainphone working properly and wishing we could go back to trump's america and our comfy rectangle phones that occasionally catch fire
Wow user you're right, smart phones sure are a useless idea, that must be why they never took off.
Tell me how I'm an autistic? Sorry I don't stare at my phone on the street and bump into you like a retard, I even see people 40+ do this not just teenagers and I keep walking to see when they'll notice me, they never do I stop in front of them and ask them "can you excuse me?" They always look mad at ME! Like I'm in their way. I hate cellphones more than anything
But still the benefit of physical buttons and no IAP cancer far outweighed the negatives of having NES graphics. I remember actuslly playing mobile games to completion. Now it's sll the same glorified casino games.
>I don't know how gravity works - The Image
That game was cool as fuck.
legit autism
t. Retard who walks into people because he can't look where he's walking
lmao you sound autistic as fuck. just walk around people bitch you don't have to sperg out over something this pointless.
Theres this canon Front Mission game released only in japan
>durrr just walk on the road retard XD
...
I think you might actually, really be autistic user.
I had Doom and that was pretty solid
You mean J2ME games?
There is Darkest Fear which I believe got a Iphone port..
There is a game very similar to Castlevania too but I don't remember the name, that one was the SHIT.
I remember back in 2006 playing that in my sony ericsson walkman and all the guys in my soccer team wanting me to send them a copy of the game using bluetooth.
you should walk in the road, maybe a truck will run you over and put you out of your retarded misery
I don't live in Europe so I don't think that will happen
>But still the benefit of physical buttons and no IAP cancer far outweighed the negatives of having NES graphics
>NES graphics
Come on. All things considered, the graphics weren't that bad.
i really hate people who can't even common courtesy to just fuck off if they are blocking the whole walking way
