Because of the anti-moba circlejerk that's been around for years. Not saying they're wrong or you should play it or whatever, but dota is L I T E R A L L Y the only worthy e-sports game to watch.
It's a nightmare to play though because of how Valve treats lower (as in anything lower than pro) level players and their problems they simply don't fucking do anything and the amount of russian on EU and peruvians on NA. Basically, the game is fucking impossible to get into and it's a torture to play despite it being really good. The same thing but also with a horde of cheaters happened to CS:GO.

league is far easier to see what is going on, spell effects, use of colour etc

the hero kits suck.

Whilst singular abilities in DOTA are often cooler, overall hero kits just dont mesh together as well as they do in other MOBAs, particularly league, where the abilities are less powerful but rely on synergies and combos

Heros lore/design isn't varied enough, overload of edge and human'but' characters

Brutal learning curve with a huge burden of knowledge

Matchmaking is now heavily based on your behavior score. If you have a "normal" rating then you will rarely see these kinds of players.

but I don't get how people get so deep into the lore of games in which lore is an extremely tertiary part of the experience, im not saying it shouldnt exist but if you are one of those people, what does it ad to the game for you,

the general is only really populated when new updates are released or big tournaments are on

in my experience it's rather hit or miss on whether you get actual questions on the game answered

I'll agree with the first and last point but the middle one is arguable. Many of the heroes require you to learn by yourself by playing, and most of the abilities are skillshots. Not counting positioning, item builds, income, and other stuff I've probably missed.

Thing is that in games with actual high skill ceilings, you can literally win entire games by yourself because you are just that good. In MOBAs , it only takes one retard to lose the match and at any given time you have 4 potential retards on your team. No matter how good you are, you can't make up for having just one retard. That isn't a high skill ceiling. That is an extremely low skill ceiling. Even the fucking Halo games had a higher skill ceiling than that

If you define skill ceiling by your ability to carry your retarded teammates to victory, I feel sorry for you.

I do understand where you're coming from though, I play with a bunch of friends regularly but we're never in a group large enough that we can run as a full stack, and even having just one retard is always a problem. It can be infuriating. I played overwatch for a while and it's harder to carry in that game than dota.

Can you give me an example of a game you'd describe as having a high skill ceiling, just so I'll understand your point of view a little more?

Happened in a span of two games but that's how it happened, I come to dota after not playing it for three years in normal all pick and all the english speakers in my initial games were angry as fuck and telling me to go back my league hugbox and pointing out every single mistake I was doing, taking more time to type shit to me than actually playing the game, second was something very similar but he was also arguing with a shitskin himself.
