Nearly 20 years later, Nintendo finally topped OOT and Mario 64. Discuss.

Yet they still haven't topped Legend of Zelda or Super Mario Bros. 3.

Yes they still haven't topped Sunshine.

L M A O

It feels good to be excited about Zelda and Mario again.

>no Boos
>no Luigi
>no Isle Delfino
Odyssey didn't top shit

The N64 and Gamecube were the last true Nintendo consoles. The Wii Era is essentially the dark, forlorn era of Nintendo where they lost their way and sold out to casuals. This is the last and final arc of the hero's requiem. Nintendo has returned to form, in better shape than they ever were before and innovating the industry in a way they never have before with the Switch, the first true hybrid home/handheld console.

Mark my words, almost every single mainstream video game console released after the Switch will be a hybrid console. And before that happens, the Switch will literally, unironically become the biggest selling game console of all-time.

haha

playing OoT right now for the first time on the 3DS and it's shit
I'm not bait holy shit

Breath of the wild is nothing like ocarina (which is vastly overrated by the way) and mario odyssey is not even out

This "last game released is better than loved classic" bullshit need to ends

>two GOTYs the same year

why

Mario Galaxy was a far superior platformer to 64

Also Wind Waker and Majora's Mask are better than OoT

Prepare for another dark age cause this shit never keeps up.

BotW is alright but it gets pretty repetitive after a while.

I'd say it tops shit.

The Wii was awesome.

I think that games are overall getting more exciting after the dark period that was in 2005-2015ish. Despite all the lootboxes and stuff like that it finally feels like we're going somewhere instead of just stagnating into mediocrity.

BotW is garbage.

>Huge world thats empty as fuck
>Weapons that break every five swings
>Boring puzzles
>Boring characters
>Boring enemies

On top of that nu-males fucking jizzed all over it.

How far through are you and what don't you like about it?

Majora's Mask beats out OoT by a slim margin but it's really just subjective which you prefer both are great. Windwaker is third best. Mario Galaxy is no where near as good as 64.

just beat the first dungeon
and so far the gameplay seems off paced
like I was going to hyrule castle only to get into the time mechanic granted I think I'll get over it since I've only really started the game
the gameplay is just lock and swing and sometimes have shitty angles where navi isn't helping for shit
but for the fighting it might switch it up soon so I'll give that a pass but for now It litterally doesn't live up to the hype
I'll have a better opinion when I'm more into the game

The combat is mostly just lock on and swing.

How old are you?

You're judging a game from 20 years ago by today's standards. You need to appreciate how revolutionary the game would've been at the time of its release. I only played it for the first time a couple of years ago too.

It's called perspective you dingus.

>a game from 20 years ago
but it's a remake
I thought it would improve on it's flaws

They updated the graphics and the bottom screen is used for item selection instead of having to bounce between menu and gameplay. They haven't changed much.

>BotW
>better than OoT
HAHAHAHAHA
No.

>They haven't topped the lava boat and pachinko

I do not understand the absurd praise that game is getting.

Absolutely nothing innovative in that game, I'd hoped Nintendo would buck the trends in the open world market segment.

I despised last gen so fucking hard.

The death of the mid-tier game.
Western developer dominance was so strong that brown and grey garbage proliferated like wildfire.
Other developers started fucking over long running franchises to appeal to the COD/"mature" audience leading to shit like Bomberman ActZero, the shitty Bionic Commando, Ace Combat abandoning its identity and 20 year old setting for COD trappings and gameplay, etc...

My body is ready.

>People out there genuinely think this

>topped OoT
Not even.

>topped SM64
Give it a few weeks before you make that call, damn, the game isn't even out yet.

ah for fucks sake! Super Mario Odyssey isn't even out yet!

Is nintendoism a cult? Is this 4th level irony trolling?

Like what the fuck? Consoles are literally gonna die to PC in less than a year...

Consoles now cannot touch the fraction of sales they used to have 15 years ago.

>You're judging a game from 20 years ago by today's standards.
Almost like... he's someone from today... having played today's games... and now trying out... an older game... whoa...

Admit it, OoT doesn't hold up and it's only value is nostalgia.

>Consoles are literally gonna die to PC in less than a year...
Now THIS is some 4th level irony trolling.

Mario and Bowser end up on the moon and both try to court Peach. She struggles deciding between the two of them and leaves them both behind, heading for the Odyssey. Bowser and Mario feel dejected, with Mario patting Bowser on the back. As the ship is taking off, Peach calls out to Mario to come with her, so he jumps on Bowser's head to land on the ship. At the very end, they all get on the floor and do the dinosaur.

Your attempts at spoiling it for me have failed, I already watched the ending and some (not all) of the leaker stream. It's what convinced me to buy the game and Switch in the first place.

>80 buckaroos for 15 levels
Nintendo fans are killing gaming by supporting shit like this.

Luigi is gay. He's not required. Additionally, there is a Luigi costume. Good enough.

There are Boos. Isle Delfino will be DLC

Alright for those who've seen the game leaked, how is it structured? I'm assuming from the e3 trailer is that you need to get enough moons to power your ship to go to the next level, the progression would be linear but what you do in the levels in open-ended. So are there any mandatory levels or something, or is it structured like Sunshine? Also, is the game good?

Honestly, it's buy it and a Switch now, or wait until next year, because you know the stock is going to absolutely plummet in a few weeks when the holidays start and Mario is on shelves.

Super Mario Sunshine is the best evidence that Stockholm Syndrome is indeed a thing.

You can't top perfection.

>is the game good?
Isn't every Nintendo game with a 10 on Metacritic the pinnacle of gaming? We all know Skyward Sword is the best Zelda game.

>no generic enemies/levels that we've already seen before
>no character that is literally just cosmetic shit
>no return to a place barely anyone cared for pre Odyssey announcement

Seems like you're complaining about a whole lotta nothing user

Wow exactly like OOT except since weapons don't break you can just spam the A button

I think Nintendo fanboys need to "top" themselves.

You're right, it's waaaay fucking better than OoT.

>OoT nostalgiafags have to keep shitting on BotW because their precious, overrated as fuck game was finally destroyed

>being too casual for super mario sunshine
holy shit do you even game? you must be a sonybro who only qte movies

Sunshine has the least amount of bottomless pits of all the 3D Mario games, eight life points and FLUDD. Pretty sure it was already casual to begin with.

Or you could save your money and not buy a Switch so Nintendo can stop killing gaming as a whole.

botw is really good, I just prefer oot because I am a bigger fan of the traditional zelda formula than the more open and freeform game that is botw. Both games are amazing and I think anyone interested in zelda games should definitely play both.

the only challenge in Sunshine are the secrets and corona mountain.
if you unironically die in the stages by running out of energy or something then you just suck

Can I get a quick rundown on how Nintendo are killing gaming?

This is as cringeworthy as the Hacker's Manifesto. Wii era was Nintendo at some of its best.

t. 25yo, first system was NES, had every Nintendo system

>You're judging a game from 20 years ago by today's standards.

Just as everyone should do. If it doesn't still hold up then it's not as good, plain and simple. Deal with it.

I was always going to get one eventually. I already have several other games I want for it.

The gif that you responded to was a secret stage, 'Secret of Pianta Village'.

>several other games
But it only has two

the ellipsis really makes it 4th level

Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Metroid Prime 4

Going to get them all eventually.

>flimsy reason why it sucks
>flimsy reason why it sucks
>flimsy reason why it sucks
>flimsy reason why it sucks

There, just saved haters the trouble.

Does Metroid Prime Trilogy work well on dolphin with m+k?

yeah

I'll give it a shot then.

That's not a serious question is it? You would think Nintendies would get tired of being on danage control 100% of the time, but here we are yet again.

>a zelda game that gives you your whole toolset at the very beginning
>mario '06 with shitty 3D World physics
>coming close to those two classics

very funny

>A hub game with concise goals achieved via lock and key item progression over eight very distinct regions and dungeons.
>An open world game with obtuse goals achieved via quota filling completion of multiple shallow dungeons via emergent progression.
>Wow exactly the same

Okay, 3.Sorry.

Nice buzzwords

Right, because it has colors and shit. We know, you're a big boy with a big dick and Nintendo would make it shrink and that asshole Travis is NOT going to have the biggest dick in class!

>it's not enough like its predecessor!
>it's too much like its predecessor!

Care to refute his argument?

BOTW was a tech demo. The next Zelda game will actually be the good one.

Depends if you like the exploration part or the dungeon crawling/puzzle solving part more tbqh. I prefer the latter so OOT/MM are still top tier in my heart. BOTW is easily the best open world game out there though.

dungeons in Zelda were always toddler-tier "hit the switch" or "push the block" trash.

OoT > BOTW
Odyssey >= SM64

This.

I’d argue that this has been a slow movement since around 2015 and the death of the last gen.

>toddler-tier
Zelda games are for children, so... yeah. Don't know what point you're trying to make here.

>2015
The year Undertale graced us. Things have only gone downhill since then, really makes me think.

Good one

>it was always bad!
Every single time someone tries to defend the "new" thing.

they literally topped SMB3 just two years later, come on

Super Mario World increased the level sizes but decreased the amount of enemies and platforms. It was also a lot more bland than 3 since a lot of the time in SMW you spend running across mostly flat, grassy plains with only a few enemies and hardly any actual platforms. There aren't any truly difficult jumps to make. Also, the cape and Yoshi are laughably overpowered to the point where the cape allows you to fly over 90% of the levels with complete impunity and Yoshi is a penalty-free hit that you can jump right back on. There's also the various Yoshi powers that serve to trivialize platforming even further.

SMB3's levels were concise, loaded with content, and were incredibly well-designed. SMB3 also had more power-ups and a better structure that didn't allow you to cheese levels you've beaten for power-ups and lives. The item system was also better in 3 because if you lost your power-up you'd have to go searching for another one instead of waiting for one to slowly float from the sky. SMB3 forces you to actually play it, SMW doesn't.

Was that when Sonic came out?

>"Sunshine sucks!"
>"Wow I can't believe they didn't put Isle Delfino into Odyssey!"

You literally have not played the new Mario

Nintendo themselves are ashamed of Sunshine, outside of Piantas and Nokis appearing in Galaxy 2 the game has pretty much had zero bearing on anything else Mario related. Anyone who thinks Isle Delfino will appear in any capacity is a moron.

it may have topped OOT but nothing comes even close to ALTTP

This

No they didn't.

>they'll need next level VR to top it next time.

Damn son.

BotW isn't even better than TP to begin with

It's pretty great owning a Switch, BotW is indeed a classic and Odyssey looks like it'll be a game for long-time fans. Can't wait to discover all the Easter eggs.

Shills

I unironically agree. Sunshine was a misstep in so many ways, but it was a huge step forward in the most important one--the fluidity of controlling mario. Mario has never controlled as well in any other game as he did in sunshine. And that's with or without fludd. Fludd only worked as a mechanic because mario's basic controls were so tight and flawless to begin with.

Also, I love it when devs give enough of a shit to give a game a consistent setting. Delfino was great in that regard and the only time a mario game has bothered to keep things coherent outside of the rpgs.

>This is what GameCubetoddlershills believe
