I don't play anime/3v3/MvC style fightting game so maybe the terms has different connotations there, but how is what he said wrong? After a character KO's, the current character out and the new character coming in get reset to the center of the stage an equal distance from each other. Niether player is at an advantage or disadvantage state.

Neutral play as I understand it is when both players are playing footsies and are trying to get in and open the other player up or transition into pressure and getting them into a corner; in contrast to an Oki/wakeup/knockdown or corner pressure situation where one player is at an advantage and the other a disadvantage.

I wish they went for more interesting cover art. There are too many Dragon Ball games with interchangeable cover art. Use something like color manga panels of characters attacking with certain scenes featured prominently. It would be cool if the intro were a series of manga panels that replaced the fighting characters with their battle models.

Also who the hell even calls those "neutrals" outside of smashfags? Most fighting games just use notation for those, same with directional moves.

Some games may only reward hyper-offensive play styles (SF3:3rd Strike), other games may only reward very defensive playstyles (ex: Brawl). A game with a good neutral means there's a good balance between moments of players exchanging between defense and offense, with strong baiting and prediction.

It's really only come to light in the last decade or so, because these are the only moments that tournament commentators can make interesting, as these neutral periods are moments of relative evenness between players and you can get a word in edge-wise to try to comment on what a player is thinking or trying to do. On the other hand, it's more "boring" or straightforward to commentate when Daigo is annihilating an 8 year old at Street Fighter, since there isn't a disruption or change to the flow of Daigo constantly dealing blow after blow.

I really personally don't give a shit about the neutral game, and my favorite character choices have all been about getting in the opponent's face and trying rush and beatdown. I've never liked grappler types or defensive types or fireball type characters, etc.

Modern fighting game players and viewers hate neutral and zoning. If there is anything, but mindless rushdown then no one is going to care about it.

I dunno. I've always liked rushdown. Not mindless, but rushdown makes every single moment tense for me and the battle more interesting since I'm always trying to approach and I'm always trying to figure out a way to do it differently that lets me get a combo in.

I've never liked the footsie/fireball infested neutral game. I'll swap to brief moments of defense, but never for the extended footsie matches SF tournaments are won with these days.

Moment 37 is what I live and breathe to aspire to in every fighting game. Going on defense to bait only the opening you need to rushdown.

I'd rather pay less than $5 per character instead of the ARCSYS SPECIAL ($8 each), but I'm probably not gonna buy any DLC anyway. At least the system voice pack isn't hideously expensive like it is in Central Fiction.

What characters do you want? They havn't been bad with clones at all, considering how full of them DB is. Fucking 16, Nappa, and Ginyu in a serious fighter is fucking great

You do realize they have a limited amount of work resources and time available before trying to launch a game right?

You do realize that every character slot does not take 1:1 the same amount of work as any other character slot, right?

You do realize that by having clone characters (this has been done in just about every fighting game I can think of, from Street Fighter, to Mortal Kombat, to Smash, etc.) they get to easily pad out an "extra" character for comparatively minimal work as opposed to a completely new/custom character.

The clone character problem isn't something that's unique to DBFZ. It's a thing with all fighters.

I don't want SSGSS Goku or Vegeta, either, and I _know_ those two are lazy characters. I would've preferred them be outfits/costumes for Goku and Vegeta, but it is what it is, and I'm pretty sure they're not very different from the regular characters and likewise didn't take a whole lot of extra effort.

Ginyu, Nappa, 16, Yamcha, Tien and others have been in DOZENS OF FIGHTING GAMES.
