>tfw missed out on playing runescape and played habbo instead
my god runescape looks comfy

Eve Online, between about October 2002, and mid 2005.

Then it became the biggest disappointment in gaming for me.

oldschool.runescape.com

the old version of RS was remade and is still very popular and very fun and comfy

It was basically a real life adventure with real people doling out harsh lessions.

Everything took time and all the important quests were super dangerous.
It was amazingly simple at times but crazy when it got serious. Shit a chicken will attack you randomly if you're not paying attention.

trash game with less interactivity than any other MMO on or previously on the market thats only saving grace is a functional economy and large game world

Imagine a bustling world filled with specialized players of various professions: woodchoppers, bowyers, fishermen, runecrafters, enchanters, miners, and cooks, with all of their products tying into each other to encourage player interaction and bartering

except everyone's doing the same exact thing, mindlessly clicking on a sprite for 5 hours every day with so little interaction that a ten year old could program a bot in AHK that plays the game and looks no different from an actual human

I have not played since right before Monkey Madness 2 came out. Is there any easy way to see whats been added since then?

>log in to world 327
>trannies dancing in the G.E

>bowyers
...archers?

bowyers

>Runescape 2
>Oldschool

This and GW1 sooooooo comfy.

Every mmo past them just pump all their budget into great graphics and literally nothing else. A graphic aesthetic was for the greater good. End result was ez pz to make content that wasn't cockblocked by needing to have high end graphics.

this one

Runescape was just Ultima for kids

Oldschool Tibia was GOAT and whoever disagrees is wrong.

PVP is really the crux of direct player interaction in Runescape, but otherwise, there's abundant indirect player interaction with the GE. It's the best simulation of a free market I've ever seen in a video game. That's not to say it's vulnerable to manipulation, but it always corrects itself.

that isnt silkroad online

>except everyone's doing the same exact thing
nah, you could specialize in anything you wanted, that was the beauty of it
sure, lots of groups of people could be specializing in the same thing too, but the world was alive with people doing quests, training skills, making shit to sell, killing each other, etc etc
there was never a time where everyone was doing the same thing

Either Ultima Online

Okay Ultima Online but Mabinogi is very good as well

Runescape will always be near to my heart due to the fact that the quests are mpre than just "kill x amount of things haha, oh here now kill these lmao".

If you ever want to have full immersion, attempt quests without a guide, seriously some wild times

>people still think old runescape is better

t. Walnuts poster

uhh Oldschool Runescape literally has like double the players than regular runescape

i just checked oldschool RS and theres almost 60k people online as we speak

To be fair I stuck with my main account through a lot of shit. After eoc I kept going due to the amount of years I had invested in the damn character. However I took around a 2 year break and when I returned had no idea what the fuck was going on. Some god shit and the map was different. At this point osrs was out to I thought why not just start a new character, rather than relearn this foreign shit

Difference is that one is still alive.

That pic looks like a clusterfuck

I wouldn't say better, but I wouldn't say worse either. At this point RuneScape 3 and OSRS are completely different games.

Oldschool RS is still alive, and one of the most popular MMOs today.

oldschool.runescape.com

That was my point.

goofy-ass UI decisions and arrow keys for movement have already defeated any argument you could make

Then why didn't you post a picture of old school Tibia?

>i played both at the same time
fucking pleb my childhood was amazing

>osrs gets double the players of rs3
really gets the noggin joggin

Guild Wars pre-EotN

World of Warcraft pre-Wrath

Wildstar how I imagined it turning out with a competent dev team

>oldschool
>has grand exchange

You missed the point
Yes, people have specializations, but the game has so little interactivity in whatever you do that everything is functionally the same.
Picking your specialization is just picking which sprite you're going to click on all day for the next month, and while that is a simplification of the game, it's barely a simplification.

lol

UO
Anarchy Online
EVE
Haven & Hearth
The Secret World

>greatest MMO
>even in a random screenshot you can see at least 3 bots

kek

You're right, it's a lot more complex.
It's

"talk to this person haha"
"click the thing haha"

Ragnarok Online nigga.

>tfw RS used to be good

Rs3 has exactly 0 bots. About half the players on osrs are bot accounts

...

hey GW1 had great graphics and aesthetics

Thats not true

botting got nuked long time ago on oldschool, most bots get banned within days

the only thing that exists are autospammers.

>"talk to this person haha"
>"click the thing haha"

That's literally the same thing you do replying to a Sup Forums comment. Which you just did.

I've been using Runemate for three months.
No problems here.

likewise. Botting still is pretty easy. You just can't leave it running for dozens of hours, or use bad bots.

>when it's getting closer to triple than it is to double

And yet they still deserve more suffering for TH/SoF and EoC.

i played runescap for 4 hours every day after school, 6 hours on weekends.
I once borrowed my dads laptop and played it on the couch with the laptop resting on the coffe table all day and after that i couldnt stand straight for a week because i just my back

>Rs3 has exactly 0 bots

its a shell of its former self. and yes i do enjoy the ease of grand exchange but miss spamming varrock

i hired newbies to mine silver for me because it took forever and it was a lower level ore, then i used all my silver to get crafting high enough to mine gold at the guild and exploit my teleport spell for maximum profit
I had 5 kids running around working for me, thats the most power i had in my entire life, dont shit on the game because you where too autistic to interact with other players

I missed the train for Runescape but I started my MMO experience at EverQuest right as the first expansion dropped. My little 13 year old brain was blown the fuck away. I mean, the shit was magic.

Man, now I log on and MMOs and it's "INSTANT MAX LEVEL!" or "BUY THIS MOUNT"! People bitch about the grind of old MMOs but thats where you met people. Shit Anons, is that "magic" gone from video games? It seems like it's all nu male garbage now.

And what did you do with all that trash you gained? You mindlessly clicked sprites, yeah?

Every MMO in that era had a lot of player interaction, the only difference is that Runescape barely had a game to back it up.

>tfw I was one of those slave boys
except I didn't mine silver, I did cowhides instead. He totally ripped me off on that, but I didn't know how to make money and the GE wasn't out at the time.

...

>People actually prefer the bottom to the top
W H Y

Both menus are still in the game tho

A bowyer makes bows.

An archer uses bows.

SMT

what's different then? my sub ran out a month ago so I haven't seen it yet. I can't really tell what they changed from reading the patch notes

Instead of selecting Smith X and then entering a huge number, you can just click Make All.

Who else /woodcutting/? I'm at 73 and cutting yews right now.

If you care more about XP than money, do teaks. it's way faster

Aren't teaks way more click-intensive?

Teaks (and mahoganies) are also better money because you cut them faster

If you've got 70 agility for the fossil island tree patch shortcut and like 45 farming or whatever, do that

With yews you lose

yeah runescape is legendary but GW1 was best mmo

Yes. But with mousekeys it's not so bad. You still have to pay attention though. If you just want to afk grind then yews are fine. Don't bother with Magics until you're at 95

One of them is the smithing menu and one of them is the fletching menu. They're not a comparison.

In both cases, the new content is the ability to smith an entire inventory at once using 'smith all' or 'make all' instead of hitting 'smith/make x' and then entering some arbitrarily large number. In the bottom case they also added the ability to do this in one click rather than two, but the top case is too complex to allow for this since there are so many options already.

>Don't bother with Magics until you're at 95
Wait really? I have to reach 95 woodcutting before Magics make me more money than yews?

I fucking miss it and it never felt the same coming back to it. I did come late to the party and became members the night that the game updated to the HD graphics. I still miss the original HD graphics since it felt more comfortable to look at without fucking up the aesthetic. Current RS3 is like a completely different game and I didn't experience enough of RS2 to feel complete nostalgia. But the original OST is kino.

It's been a while, but I think you only do magics when you want average xp/hr+gp/hr. Yews will always give more xp/hr than magics. at 95+ wc magics become better gp/hr. I still don't know what redwoods are useful for. last i checked their value dropped but I guess at 99wc you can still make a lot of money with it. you don't get nests though

You are mindlessly clicking in buttons waiting for a answer too

GIVE ME GLORY

OR GIVE ME DEATH

>osrs launches
>world 1 varrock is a trade hub bustling with activity
>grand exchange is released
>world 1 becomes the skid row of RS, where all the scammers, beggars, gamblers and gold selling bots congregate around the exchange

I enjoyed freelancer as mmo in the golden days

im still waiting for some mmo like that

>tfw no one develops old school sandbox MMOs because normies can't get past muh graphics

See, that's too much simplification. Here, I'm reacting to the environment and doing my best to make a response appropriate to the stimulus. In Runescape, your answer is the same no matter the stimulus. There's no interactivity, there's just seeing and doing.

>never played RS and only started hearing from it a few years ago
>Well, people say it's shit now, I'm too late
>Oldschool RS has still player
>I missed the prime who cares
>Fucking racewar happens and I missed it

What happened in 2005?

you forgot
>be dumb weeb

I don't think it ever quite reached greatest MMO of all time status but I still think Star Wars Galaxies had the foundation to be one of the greatest games ever created and to kid me, I couldn't be told otherwise at the time.

Looking back on the game now, it had it problems even Pre-CU but god damn was it a fun game. Talk about cozy, nothing was as cozy as bullshitting with my guild while sitting on my house on the beaches of Naboo.

I think the buttons they've got on the bottom there look silly, those edge protectors are just distracting enough to lead your attention away from what you're making, and they're too big for the quantity buttons.
Guess it's for future mobile players, which goes to show that phoneposters really do rune everything.

This

Its actually better than it was back then

thats just what they call it u elitist faggot

Are there any good MMOs you can like, play now?

you mean shadowbane you faggot

are you literally me? did you cut wood too?

>you will never ice barrage noobs in castle wars

>tfw missed out on runescape because playing FFXI instead
