GameCube controller now works with all Nintendo Switch games
How do you access the map in BotW with the GCN controller?
I was really excited about this for a moment. I went & found two Gamecube controllers I have (that are in serious need of cleaning) & then remembered how fucktarded the Gamecube controller is.
You can't use the Sheikah slate either
Was this an accident or something?
5mash must be coming out in 2018...
Highly unlikely
To little to late bros. There was so many fucking Wii games I wish I could've played with a Gamecube controller.
I'm so exited, but at the same time disappointed the gamecube controller is still the best one. the fact that the current gen controller isn't good enough is just sad.
You mean smash 4 gettin salty dlc payers edition for the switch?
I'd imagine if this ever was true it would be only for certain games like our inevitable smash+ reboot with all dlc or games like Mario kart and all the other indie games
Most likely part of the last update and intentionally kept out of the patch notes. GC on VC is all but confirmed now.
What? Why didn't you just plug your controller into the Wii then?
i've got a third party gamecube adapter that works on PC and WIIU. Will this shit work on switch?
I like the idea of the gamecube becoming nintendo standard, like sony duelshock.
Problem is the games need to be designed around the controller for it to be god tier. Lots of nuance in button placement and designing actions that feel good with C stick, analog triggers etc. Lots of third party games on gamecube controlled like ass, and they are going to be designing switch games with new controllers in mind.
Because he's underage and only ever had a wiimini.
That controller is now the smash bros controller. And you know... Every Nintendo system will have a smash bros.
As for itself it isn't a problem for most of games besides fighters and platformers like megaman x
Wavebird here I come.
FPS generally control like trash as well, timesplitters 2 sucked on the thing.
I wasn't even talking about genres. The game just needs to be designed with the controller in mind and not ported over. It either feels very intuitive like with most 1st party stuff or convoluted.
has anyone tried and got it to work?
no luck for me tried it with 3 different GCN controllers and fucking nothing. hope my adapters not dead
>people think this busted no ergonomic duelshock 3 ripoff is a good controller
Didn't work for me until I went into the sync menu.
Mine works, just played some sick mario kart 8 deluxe with it
might as well just use GameCube for every future nintendo consoles from now on. Nintendo might even coming back from the dead by just keep making new GameCube controllers.
2019 is the 10th anniversary
They just need to create a new Gamecube controller with a second Z button and a Select button. Missing two buttons cripples a lot of games but other than that the GC controller is solid as fuck. Also replace the Dpad and Z buttons with something less totally garbage.
>4 fucking Generations and the GC controller refuses to die
They kinda did with a licensed controller last gen, but I don't know how good they were.
>People think Dualshock 2/3/4 are improvements.
Gaming companies became very jewish when microsoft entered the scene. They want to gouge you with overpriced controllers filled with gimmick features. They don't want to sell you one for 20-30$ with wired/wireless options, they want that 60$+
The Switch recognizes the USB output of the GC adapter
Any other USB controller doesn’t work
This is on purpose
I'm very much okay with being able to play 4-player games with controllers I bought 15 years ago.
You can't kill perfection.
The Pokken controller does, but that makes sense.
It's happening bros. What are the top 3 GC games you want to see on the virtual console?
>Skies of Arcadia Legends
>Eternal Darkness
>Kirby Air Ride
It misses 4 buttons as it lacks l3/r3, unless you want to use analog triggers for that shit.
Honestly I like the restriction design your game from the ground up for it or fuck off. It's silly to buy multiplats/ports on nintendo anyways.
Should I sell my path of radience? Demand will drop once it's on VC.
Chibi Robo
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Pikmin 1/2
I already have all the gamecube games I want because i'm not a child and bought them as they came out.
All 4 Mario Parties would be really nice.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
F zero gx/ax with online feature like the triforce.
Ikaruga.
Nfs Most wanted
THEY ARE ONLY DOING THIS FOR THEIR VIRTUAL CONSOLE PUSH
SELLING VIRTUAL CONSOLES GAMES IT FREE MONEY FOR THEM
Viewtiful Joe
Mario Kart Double Dash
WarioWare Mega Party Game$
No clue why they botched it so god damn hard with the Wii U
A: Not immediately transferring all VC games (at least 1st party) over to the Wii U service
B: Not releasing more VC games to cover the vast amount of droughts the Wii U had.
What bothers me now is that the L/R shoulder buttons aren't analogue on the Switch. You need to depress them all the down until they click for them to register, rather than just halfway or something. That's very annoying for me.
Still, it's a great step. Here's hoping for VC and Smash.
On melee works for the shield mechanic.
does nitendo sell gamecube controllers or can you only get them used?
I'm just realizing how fucking stupid of a design choice it was to take away a mechanic as deep as light shielding
>loads up fire emblem
>"why load up a strategy game to demo a controller? Retard"
>game loads
Jesus Christ.
You can only get them used now
>Paying for digitally distributed games
>Being excited to buy digitally distributed games
How cucked can you be?
They were JUST produced for Smash Wii U, though, so it's not out of the question for them to briefly bring it back again.
But it's not perfect. It still needs
>a select button
>a home button
>clicking sticks
>a second Z button
>gyros
2019 is not the tenth anniversary of anything Smash related.
Reminder that like 2 months before PokkenDX came out, an update allowed you to use the Pokken controller on Switch.
Within half a year we'll get at least the announcement of Smash or GC games
Who's ready?
>ITT: Autist faggots get their way because money
can i use it with spla2n
F-zero GX
Gotcha Force
Soul Calibur 2(with Link)
>Portable F-Zero GX
You can, but I don't see why you'd want to gimp yourself.
>I don't see why you'd want to gimp yourself
its the only way i can get off
>what is a laptop with dolphin
It only worked with one game last gen.
Neat. Gives me a reason to suggest playing MK8 to my friends
I mean, yeah, but it requires a hell of a lot more space and set up than a Switch
but it still led to Nintendo reproducing more official controllers
>Soul Calibur 2
>Mario Party 4
>SA2B
>portable Chao Garden
To be fair, SA2B is on PC already, but minus any sort of portable Chao. GBA Chao Garden was great
I wish they made a new version of the GC controller that's less shit, like Sony did with the Dualshock. Some needed changes:
>higher quality D-pad
>dual Z buttons
>C stick replaced with second main analog stick
The overall shape and design is great, it just needs way more quality control.
>paying $40-$50 dollars on a digitally downloaded games
It's cheaper to just get a Gamecube and and the games.
I started collecting Gamecube games this year. Best decision I made.
The only good thing to have a Switch is for portability.
this
dude, they charged max $20 for Wii titles on WiiU digital. Even for Xenoblade.
Physical GameCube games are not cheap.
The market for Gamecube games has gone up crazy high.
Your better off selling your collection now, before its too late.
>tfw sold a Phantasy Star Online episode 1 and 2 for $90 bucks
I hope they add that game to the list of downloads
to be fair, it was probably PSO Plus that sold for $90, not the first release.
It's called the Classic Controller Pro but apparently I was the only one who bought it and liked it
*Two
I was looking for PSO around a year ago and even vanilla GC PSO was going for over 100
>Sonic Adventure DX
>Super Smash Bros Melee
>Super Mario Sunshine
this only emphasises how shit the game cube controller is. it doesnt have half the buttons
Why would any controller made in 2001 need four shoulder buttons and a "Home" button?
that seems wrong.
I just checked ebay, they're hovering around $40
of what? 2018 is the brawl 10th, melee was 2011
So either there was a HUGE price fluctuation in the last year or is retarded
why is it then when i pair the gamecube controller, the analog stick is all wonky?
The PS2 had 4 shoulder buttons and the Xbox had black/white buttons that became the 360's bumpers.
Got me there, completely slipped my mind
I don't hate Nintendo, in fact I love the company. Thing is, I hate their fanboys. It might have become accessible for other games. Which makes zero sense at this point. Nintendo is actually a very xenophobic and nationalist company. Somehow everybody is okay with this. They assume that everybody still has a gamecube controller. I do, but who else?
That generations controllers were fucking weird. Gamecube had analog shoulder triggers, PS2 had analog face buttons that only Kojima ever used because it was so obtuse to "lightly press" a face button with a 3mm throw, and Xbox controller was godawful
it won't stop "holding" right... am I doing something wrong?
I loved those triggers and didn't realize they'd utilize them badly. It's why I bought the gamecube over the xbox. Then realized I had made a huge mistake.
I will never forgive Nintendo for not respecting the efforts of other developers. You are not better than them.
Un plug it and plug it back in?
Hasn't that been an issue with every single Nintendo controller with an analogue stick since the N64? If you're leaning on the stick when you first activate it/turn the system on, it registers that direction as the center.
Hey dude, I love the triggers too. The PS2 stuff is what was utilized truly poorly.
At least the GC stuff was used well in Mario Sunshine and F-Zero GX
also I'm pretty sure it's not an uncommon opinion that The Duke is a fucking stupid controller
I did that, figured it was exactly what you were speaking of.
never mind, just had to power the system down. fixed. thanks!
for future reference you can hold x + y + start for around 3 seconds and the controller will reset, should fix it without rebooting
