i like how the sunshine slowly covers more of delphino plaza as you get more shines

comfy atmosphere
nice water effects
terrible level design
worse controls than mario 64

water sliding. best traversal mechanic for large stretches of land. much better than rolling.

I do not like the game.

It was so damn satisfying cleaning up all the paint.

I legitimately enjoyed it. I'm not sure what black magic they used, but the water and goop seem more like fluids than anything I've seen since.

I can't. I only played it as a kid and I sucked balls at it. Fuck the manta ray resort thingy and fuck boat in lava shit at the end of the game.

Yeah, I am sure it is easy as fuck now, but back then shit was hard.

II Piantissimo was the nigga in charge.

I like how Isle Delfino feels like a real place and not just random geometry like SM64, it’s the closest a game has come to capturing that feeling of being on vacation. It’s a perfect summer game.

>I like how Isle Delfino feels like a real place and not just random geometry like SM64
and that's why it's a far worse GAME as well.

Fantastic art design (it still looks good today), good music, phenomenal movement abilities, and varying gameplay. I get that people think the FLUDD is shit, but it's not like the entire game is just cleaning up goop. On top of that, the "secret" levels are some of the best platforming levels in the series. The biggest downfall is the final boss is terrible and some levels are harder than they should be (Pachinko, for example).

>worse controls than mario 64

Why do people say this? Mario controls way more tightly in sunshine, and has a way better/easier time making turns and preserving momentum, wheras in 64 he has an absurdly wide turning radius, and making 180 degree was super finnicky and he skidded all over the place. Plus, the long jump got replaced by the spin jump, which covered just as much distance but was more versatile, and sunshine added slidding and all of fludd's stuff.

>terrible level design

Also, again, why do people keep saying this? Sunshine's levels are way more open ended and actually allow you to move around them freely and have way more platforming options, wheras most of 64's levels are blatently designed aroung singular pathways and have almost no platforming aside from what it was designed around. If you actually LIKE the more intentionally designed, linear stuff that's less about player freedm and more about pure platforming challenges, then there's the challenge missions in sunshine which are solely based around that

This, they put in the “mystery of the spotted gazebo” or whatever for a more classic Mario but the the levels themselves were a diverse group of real places that all fit this island aesthetic but gave you different environments and feelings as you played through them.

Potential for fast traveling with spraying water then hop-diving onto it.
Some really comfy-ass areas - the entire main hub once it's sunny, Sirena beach after the monster's gone, and all of Pinna Park.
Decent boss fights for a Mario game.
Awful camera is my biggest gripe. Controls are fine, the reason they feel like shit is the goddamn camera especially when using the water jet boost thing.
Blue coins were a terrible thing that almost required a FAQ for retard kids like me, probably not an issue these days.

also it still has the best looking water of any game I've played, barring the super realistic modded ones with subsurface scatter and what else.

Go into the pianta village and sit in the hot springs and tell me I'm wrong

Maybe? It was definitely a more important game, all I know is I have no desire to go back to those dated, lifeless levels ever again whereas I can still enjoy Sunshine’s tropical resort.

>e dated, lifeless levels ever again whereas I can still enjoy Sunshine’s tropical resort.
You just don't like platforming per-se

The water is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm not that guy but are you seriously trying to make the argument that since a person likes the consistent theme of Sunshine's levels versus the usual case where a platformer has the necessary water/lava/sand lands, they aren't a fan of the genre? Jesus.

Its the best one IMO
This is half the reason why

The water mechanics in general are phenomenal. The game has a great atmosphere and entertaining level design.
And most of all, its actually pretty challenging compared to 64 and Galaxy, which I always felt were piss easy. Normally I don't judge games harshly by their difficulty, but when it comes to platformers, they can be very boring if they aren't properly difficult. (I haven't played Galaxy 2 yet)

Nope, and I have no idea where you got such a bizarre, shallow idea.

SM64 vs Sunshine is quite like Doom 1993 vs 2016 when it comes to map-design and overall gameplay. Both instances have latter title be a major downgrade.

I got that idea because you said that after he said he preferred one game's visual theme over another.

It was ok

had some nice graphics at the time

but it was somewhat of a lowpoint in the series, especially with how great the Galaxy games and 3D Land / World turned out to be

It and Wind Waker we're boring and made me feel weird when I replayed them, but it's likely not the fault of the game.

I have a strong aversion to nostalgia. My heart sinks every time I am reminded of the past by an old friend calling, an old, sentimental object being put in front of me, or by playing a videogame from my childhood. I had a wonderful childhood, but nostalgia, or whatever it is, hurts my psyche.

Why do people enjoy nostalgia?

>Why do people say this?
>no crawling
>no kicking
>no long jump

>has several new moves from FLUD instead to make up for it

Nice shitposting, mouthbreather

>slowly hovering across any gap is the same as a quick longjump
I see you dont know anything about game mechanics/physics if you think those are comparable

Yeah...hovering is a fucking horrible mechanic in that game.

The spin jump is literally a 100% objectively better version of the long jump. Punching and kicking isn't movement related. Explain what crawling added that makes it's a removal a problem

Sunshine's levels are better for platforming, though.

Yea, gotta agree that it could be used as a cheap way for casuals to overcome obstacles, but on the other hand implying that it can only be used to overcame gaps is the understatement of the year, it gives you way more possiblities

But Im sure whatever I write know will just be exploited for more shitposting so lets save us the time and agree to dissagree

Tropical theme. It refines SM64's controls and makes them near perfect. Lots to explore. The platforming challenges in challenge levels. Some really good platforming in levels like Rico Harbor, Noki Bay, etc.

The post you are responding to literally already explains how sunshine replaces the long jump with a better version of itself

gameplay feels fluid

Forgot to mention, the music is great too.

>casualfags who prefer hovering over longjump.
no wonder this is what happened to mario

Wow thats embarrassing and hilarious

I'm not comparing hovering to longjumping, i'm comparing the spinjump to the longjump.

spinjump is completely different and worse than longjump

Also, even ignoring the spinjump: You aren't required to use the fludd to get around: You can easily git gud and travese levels entirely via mario's basic movement options, and in fact, there's far more freedom to do so in sunshine compared to 64 thanks to sunshine having platfomring options all throughout the levels instead of being designed for singlular pathways.

If you can't get by and traverse sushine's maps without fludd, then the casualfag is you

But that's wrong, it covers just as much horizontal distance and way more vertical distance
