So I plan on finally booting up the first Disgaea on PSP and playing through it for my first time. I'm not sure how far I'm going to take the game, it really depends on how much I like it, but that being said, is the grind worth it? Any additional tips would be appreciated.
>is the grind worth it? Well, that kinda depends on how much you like grinding.
>additional tips If you don't pay attention to Geo Effects, you're gonna have a very hard time against Vyers. Please pay attention to Geo Effects.

Keep to a small number of units. Large armies tend to take longer to raise and keep well equip.
Adam Brown
make sure you don't accidentally sell that item you've been stockpiling innocents on
Ryan Hill
Really...just roleplay yourself making a silly army. Big or small, avoid min maxing unless you planned on playing one of the most time consuming autism simulators ever created.
If min maxing is what you planned on originally doing, emulated Disgaea 2 pn the psp. You get to turn monsters into weapons during the endgame. Kinda like a bankai type of deal.

Reminder that Majorita is the best Disgaea loli.
Jackson Evans
You can play the story mode with zero grinding. However it's just a subpar srpg if you play that way, so I'd only recommend it if you like grinding for the sake of grinding.
Juan Hill
As serviceable as it may be otherwise, I really enjoy the franchise--even if my experience with each one has just been cursory. Some of the more enjoyable SRPGs, I find.
Wyatt Phillips
The grinding meme only really comes in if you're planning to do all the endgame shit. If you're even slightly good at tactics games you'll go through the entire game with barely any grinding at all. Also, make a skull or a mage. They start off shit but they get fucking ridiculous once they start nuking shit from halfway across the map.
Anthony Ross
The main story isnt grindy at all. The extra content is cool but ultimately unnecessary. Get ready for a fun time.
Anthony Cruz
Should I bother with the post-game, or should I just dedicate that time to a later Disgaea's post-game?
Jason Thomas
>grind forget about grind for first story playthru, it's hardly necessary if you keep using most story characters grind is for when you got thru game once or twice already. You may need to dip slightly in item world more than needed for story, but overall "grind" disgaea's stereotype comes from post game. And all next games have made grinding so much easier to figure out. >If you don't pay attention to Geo Effects, you're gonna have a very hard time against Vyers. Please pay attention to Geo Effects. youtube.com/watch?v=BF9RbaQsk1Y
Leo Howard
Just take the post-game as far as you feel like going That's why it's post-game, after all
Jonathan Myers
I mean, I'm no completionist, but I like the franchise, and I wanna see most of what it has to offer. Naturally I won't stomach a game more than its core content if I didn't take to it; but I often find myself feeling remiss after completing one of the series's story modes and not touching the post-game.
Mason Gonzalez
the story gets shittier and the gameplay gets better the higher you go
This is your only chance to play the first one since it has the best story without meme shit weebery plot retardness. If you play any other sequel you just won't be able to even attempt to play the first because the quality of life changes are just too great.
Leo Carter
Im just gonna give one (1) hint about the game, which is a little spoiler. If you want to go blind, go ahead, otherwise, read for better feels: In your first playthrough, kill at least one team member. In your second playthrough, take care to not kill anyone from your team.
Doing this you will unlock the normal ending, then the true ending. And before you talk about playthoughs, you get to keep your level, so the second playthrough should last about 1 hour tops.
David Young
Got back to first game recently to get other endings and kill Baal. Disgaea 1's item world is way more brutal. I remember reaching Disgaea's 2 Item God without much of an issue, D1 however really have those enemy levels multiplied easily. 30-40 levels in and you got 10x enemies lvl wise. grinding 3rd Cave of Ordeal map atm. also spears are fucking useless. well after completing main story and Etna mode you've seen most game has to offer. Of course there are additional endings, but to reach those without following guide will take awhile. But what you get is not that much.
Juan Gomez
Keep the Mr. Gency Exit on you and don't waste it if you plan on going into the item world (you have to anyways), the first game is a real bitch about geo effects and gency's.
Josiah Ramirez
The grind IS the game user.
Jaxon Anderson
>spoiler >getting friendly kill voluntary don't listen to that user.
The true ending feels better if you seen the normal ending first. Im just saying what my opnion on the subject. I did not expect the Feels i got in normal ending. This silly anime game has WAY too much more feels than it should have. youtube.com/watch?v=UWR94AIepeQ
I got ONE friendly kill by mistake and was playing D1 for awhile at that point and never knew about endings. I DIDN'T ASK FOR THOSE FEELS I was so frustrated I did second playthru in same day, and it still felt wrong
Hudson Hall
>throw a prinny like the game tells you to >get locked out of the good ending That was fucking bullshit let me tell you
Joseph Clark
Im not sure if throwing prinnies count in the pc version, the only one i played.
Austin Rivera
I still never do prinny throws my every new Disgaea first playthrus, (even if they don't count as friendly kill anymore) and after EACH story stage I check friendly kill count like paranoiac
Jace Wilson
I WANT FLONNE TO SIT ON MY FACE
James Nelson
Sorry, she is for Tyrant Overlord Laharl only.
Nathaniel Ross
>genuinely enjoy the first game's story >play the rest of the series >the stories, characters, and tone never even come close to matching the original >and the artstyle is worse I mean, the gameplay is better, and I still had a lot of fun, but still
Aaron Sullivan
Gordon is great, but come on, we are talking about the grand Dark Adonis Vyers himself, the most noble of the demons.
Landon Moore
I liked sardines' game also Axel mode in Disgaea2 was fucking brilliant I agree, I wish there were more of him, I just miss Gordon too DD2 was such a good chance to see all those favorites again but instead of that we got badly written fanfiction with some worst new characters
Brayden Gutierrez
So anons, what was the larhal photo?
Connor Hall
I think one of Harada's artbooks have actually it pictured

Will Disgaea 3,4 and 5 come to PC?
Xavier Powell
Given that all the PS2 games have the same engine, i think makai kingdom might come first, as porting all games should be relativ similar. Im not sure about 3-5. I think that if they could do it cheaply, they would, but im not sure how easy it is.
Jayden Morris
Flonne X Laharl is OTP
Jordan Anderson
The first game is pretty dated, compared even to Disgaea 2. So some grind might be required.
As for the tips, well, you've gotta adopt the demon tactics. I.e. fair fights are for suckers. If you can cheese a fight somehow - do it. An enemy is too powerful? Sacrifice one of your own units to lift the enemy and rob them of their turn.
And as other people said - definitely look at the geo panels first thing when starting a new mission. They're often arranged to fuck you up, but sometimes the effects can be reversed to turn the tables. Although the latter scenario isn't nearly as often as it is in the later games.

Disgaea ranking list
4 5 1 2 DD2 3
Xavier Watson
Well, the GOTY or w/e edition of 5 got rated for PC together with the Switch version, so they're likely planning to port them all eventually.
Leo Campbell
Disgaea 3 can be skipped, pls give 4 and 5 though, i really dont wanna buy a fucking Switch just to play 5
Bentley Perez
>putting DD2 above anything opinions discarded
Adam Reyes
4 or 5 PC when
Jonathan Taylor
Is Etna in 4 and 5?
Evan Adams
A pile of shit is better than 3, dont be silly user
DD2 wasnt nearly as bad as 3
Nicholas Ross
3 was okay, fuck off
Ayden Bell
UNLOCK MUH HEART
nah.
Owen Johnson
she is in every game as post game character
Zachary Cook
Which was the one with Sardines! and Valvatorez? Best MC imo
Leo Bell
I'm not saying it was good, I'm saying it was okay hell, Almaz is better shonen protagonist than Adell ever be DD2 is trash compared to any other disgaea
Landon Cooper
4

Reminder that the psp version is bugged. Glasses increase your aim (and thus) gun damage by like, 1000 per pair, but also give you a negative jump height meaning you can't move up or down unless you get an ally to throw you.
Asher Stewart
I like to think of it as of feature of getting yourself strong immovable turret I miss dark cannon skill
Carter Fisher
also it's only on one type of glasses, Foresight I think. rest are ok
Gabriel Jackson
Is it fixed in the PC version? It's basically a port of the PSP one. I don't remember Pleinair being unable to jump. In fact I think she had one of the highest jumps among all units.
Jason Allen

Landon Rogers
disgaea 4 was great and Flonne was best girl I liked Fuuka too
Dylan Carter
angel trainee Flonne, or fallen angel Flonne?
Nolan Ramirez
archangel Flonne obviously I mean she used all celestia money on giant robot the hero we have but do not deserve
Noah Turner
There's virtually no difference.
Hudson Nelson
Nin nin nin
Isaiah Mitchell
One's red and one's blue.
Camden Cox
Why is she so perfect bros?
Parker Wood
World needs more dark flonne
Carson Rogers
You don't need grind in the first game. Just don't spread your team too much, and learn attack magic to priest (or healing to mages)
Zachary Perez
>weiss schwarz Didn't think I'd see that here.
Evan Edwards
>being a range player Serves you casual right
Jason Peterson
Card game? well I just failed to find clear sprite, so using whatever could >not having ranged characters it's like you hate long combos
Bentley Collins
>You don't need grind in the first game. >learn attack magic to priest And how do you suppose that would happen? That's right you need to grind enough mana on your healers for them to make pupils, and then grind the pupils until they learn the spells, and then grind both together so that the healers would learn from the pupils.
Carter Wood
>4 >at the top I really want anyone, someone to go back and play 4. It adopts the shitty mana system from 3, replaced some generics with shittier ones, and it has terrible map design. Say what you want about the cast of 5, but its gameplay is the best of the series.
Jason Campbell
Yeah, it's a pretty mediocre card game, but I sort of enjoy it. It's all license anime and game series.
Jayden Rivera
nothing wrong with enjoying mediocre games for other reasons entirely I'd buy some JP card games just for the art
>And how do you suppose that would happen 50 mana pupil. If you think that's grind, it's not that you are wrong, it's that you are a lying retard shitflinging something against a game you never played to get neogaf mods favor, which isn't going to happen there, refugee piece of shit.
