I played FFXV at launch and had a really great time. I personally felt satisfied with my 92 hour play time through the main story and even got a platinum trophy in it, but I haven't played since December.
I'm aware that a bunch of updates have been made to the game since then, and I wanted to know what Sup Forums thought of the game before and what you all think of it now that it's had these updates.
Obviously nothing will stop someone from hating it, but has it improved for better or worse?

i never played it
if it was an all-girl cast maybe
Actually in the exact same boat as op. Liked it, Platinum'd it and haven't touched it in months.
Also curious about all the updates.
I enjoyed up until that one guy went blind, forgot his name. It just got really depressing after that. I stopped playing after that 10 year time skip because I realized that all my characters were severely underleveled and kept getting their asses kicked.
Ignis going blind was pretty depressing, especially at the camp scene, but it really pays off in the end. You can always return back in time to level grind if you need to
It was garbage at launch, and it's slightly less garbage now. Literally an unfinished game sold by 60 dollars. No one with self-respect would still play this thing.
It was more like 75% finished
Shit game, shit story, shit cast.
FF is dead
Same except didnt like it much after the 40th hour or so
It sold too well outside of Japan. FF is still here for at least one more game
It's majorly improved since launch and I can't wait for the iggy dlc and comrades. offroad driving alone was a major improvment, multiple hunts acceptance should be coming soon. The two DLCs si far have been good, they really feel like they are "side B" to the "side A" of the chapter they take place during.
I enjoyed it at launch, even though there were glaring flaws, a ton of cut content and wasted potential. It was an okay game that could've been truly great.
Recently replayed it and the additions do improve the experience quite a bit. Off-road driving, tweaks to camera work, and other small additions reduce a good deal of the friction you're bound to experience while exploring the world. The only thing I'm really missing still is being able to take on multiple hunts and they're adding that soon too.
The DLC episodes do a good job at filling the holes of the plot. Sucks that they weren't part of the game from the beginning, but better this than nothing. The free story updates also give the latter half of the game some light but desperately needed substance, although at the cost of it feeling even more tragic.
If the original score of the game was 72, I'd say it's about 83 now. I'm still waiting for Episode Ignis, the multiplayer, and how they'll keep adding to the game next year.
Sold more than any other FF within the same time frame, FF is as alive as ever. Once everything is said and done its total sales will be 8m+ putting it in the top 3 highest selling FFs alongside 10, 8 and 7.
What went SO wrong with these points in FFXV?
>The story
>The characters
>The gameplay
>The open world
>The side quests
Nothing, those are all good.
Hello refugee it seems that you are from new fag, I suggest you go back.
>Calling me a NeoFag
Hey Barry! How's Melbourne?
>had a really great time
I wish I had standards this low.
Same lmao
Imagine being this retarded.
Sales are not an indication of quality, idiot.
Just go back to neogaf little refugee, that's the only place you fit in.
>waah ff is ded
> No XV sold gangbusters and more than all other FF within the same time frame, FF is alive and well
>wAh that isn't quality
Nice goalpost move neogaf, you need to go back
it stinks
I don't understand how some people can spend 100's of hours on a game, and come here and say it was bad. Maybe it didn't live up to your expectations, maybe the story wasn't great, but how could you come out of it with a bad impression if you clocked that many hours into it. It doesn't add up.
>contrarian Sup Forums fuckwits, incapable of enjoying anything that's popular
It's ok to like FFXV it's not ok to say it's a good game.
Also I can do a pretty good Gladiolus impression after having played the game. I might do the DLC chapters one day and will definitely do a newgame+ one day. I fully regret getting it, I fully regret paying in full for it, and I fully regret not getting it on PC.
The PC version might eventually get modded into a fun game over time.
If ratings matter, then FFXIII is better than XV.
user please. People can like bad things. I beat that shit but it doesn't make it good. There are people who actively and purposefully play kusoge all the time. clearly enjoyed it but was able to examine it critically and see what did or didn't work. The biggest issue is probably the narrative as the game wanted to be some sort of FFGTA. If it had stuck to its guns as FFGTA instead of resolving itself to the narrative in the second half and letting everything fun suffer for the sake of the narrative it might have landed something a little better.
guilty pleasure: the fishing minigame with no reasonable reward for it
i enjoed it, but lets not pretend its what they promised when even the launch trailer have been full of lies.
Its still a disappointment and a not even a shell of what was promised and i will blame tabata last he only got hired to clean up what others already have broken.
Most people who say its bad didnt play it, simple as that. They just regurgitate shitposts they read elsewhere to try and look like they know what they're talking about
The game was only okay to me, but it doesn't feel quite right to say it was okay.
It had some pretty amazing stuff going on. The graphics are top-notch, the monsters all look and feel quite sick, the combat wasn't half-bad compared to the duscae demo... but, ultimately, it did disappoint in a bunch of different areas.
The dungeons were all just giant underground mazes, the story wasn't fleshed out at all (really only felt like ff7 and ff7:CC story elements that got ripped out). There was a lot it had going for it.
When the game did good, it did pretty fucking good. But on the flipside, when it did bad, it did pretty fucking bad. That's why I say it's only an okay game.
It's ok to say it's a good game because it's a great game, easily top 5 FF.
XV has higher userscores, more GOTY awards than any other FF and also the xb1 version of XV has the same score as the highest FF13 score.
FF13s lowest score is 65, FFXVs lowest score is 81.
But it was exactly what was promised and there were no lies in the launch trailer.
The only lies were from Nomura and his deceitful trailers
>xv-kun
>examine it critically
But it's still subjective. When you say people "can like bad things" you're actually saying people are entitled to their own opinion. Just because you think it's bad doesn't mean it's a universal standard. Sure there are certain principles most people agree upon but that doesn't make them a law. I still stand by that if your hour count is triple digit that means you must've had fun, enough fun to fill in the schedule of 5 whole days.
I said I had a great time but it had flaws
Isn't a dungeon supposed to be an underground maze? I'm fairly certain every game does that since D&D
Assassins dlc was kinda interesting, but the game hasn't really changed too dramatically since the first release. It runs a little better and has some new scenes, but they're meh. If you liked it, you'll still like it. If you hated it. You'll still hate it
It has many quality of life improvements, for sure, but they're still not enough to raise this game from 6.5 to an 8 even for me.
If you wish to replay it, I'd do so in about a year after they implement all the changes/dlcs/update all the story.
On a side note, with Comrades delay, will there be a monthly update to the main game before the end of October? They promised multiple hunts at a time or something
I hope he's complaining about the visual variety
I mean they're all kind of dark caves, I know they want it to be "realistic" but they're just like, too dark
stuff like the one where you fight the bandersnatch in is okay, might be better if one of the imperial base was indoors like episode prompto
or maybe zeganautus keep but actually fun
Sup neogaf refugee.
>inb4 you try to say durr but you had one too
No I had one so I could call out retards on their home front and had been browsing Sup Forums since multiple years prior to ever going there, you on the other hand are a triggered refugee mad that your shithole fell appart and think you can fit in here.
Comrades was only pushed back 7 days.
The Hunts capacity update will either be this month or next month's update.
>Assassins dlc was kinda interesting
Really showed what was the main reason of them turning the Leviathan sequence from an epic set-piece to 2 hallways and terrible pre-scripted fight - the game barely ran during the final stretch setpiece in that DLC, even on a PRO.
It was terrible all throughout. The gameplay was shoddy at times. Especially fighting enemies near ledges or other weirdly configured barriers. The open world was borderline unexplorable with all the invisible walls. The story did the best it could to make you numb to qny emotions you may have had. The brotherhood was okay. Ended up not giving a fuck about Lunafreya, Noct's dad, or any other character besides the main 4. The graphics look dated on my 4k ultra hd tv on ps4 pro.
I couldn't actually finish it. The scene with the magitech kept trapping me in invisible walls
That's unfortunate because the wrap-up is pretty good. Seriously FF games always end on the same note, it was nice to get something decidedly different.
>Sup neogaf refugee.
Weren't you a neogaf user before being banned
>think you can fit in here.
No one anywhere likes you barry, especially not here
You'll love episode Ignis then
Is out already?
I am just going to buy it again when it comes out on steam
Sold it right away after i finished it to still get most of the money back but now on PC I think I'll 100% it
It's fucked beyond repair. Updates and DLC aren't going to save it. You have to be pretty dumb to think the last update's slideshow cutscene "majorly improved (what a fucking retard)" the game since launch.
Trailer is, doubt the episode is.
Fair enough statement but then things like
Provide palpable evidence in the form of a survey with +-3% margin that it was in fact good. Granted this survey sample only includes those among the zeitgeist who probably are not criticizing it reasonably or clearly. It is a good game and arguably not entirely enjoyable. There is a clear consensus that parts of the game have pacing issues though the majority of what is delivered is pretty entertaining. Most people seem pretty happy until they get locked into a playable story board of train outta town.
The biggest problem the game suffered was that it was in development for far too long. Changing hands did not assist the product outside of adhering it to a reasonable release schedule. Had they ironed out definitive goals towards the supposed end product it would have helped. Instead nomura just kept adjusting his "circa 2000s edge wetdream" due to either laziness, immaturity, or downright just continuously falling upwards in the company. So working with what they had the teams worked towards obtuse goals that did not contribute to a better end product.
They should have locked in the day and night theme of being in Insomnia and finding out that Noctis had killed his waifu of light. That coupled with clear direction may have felt like the set piece hallways of 10 and 13 would have been better than the on rails experience it provided. They then should have included the world map field content and various low effort armiger dungeons for out of sequence access. That way they still have open world and a final fantasy jrpg simultaneously. Everything in the city is super tight and story focused, everything outside is the towns and side missions. The only drawback from that model would have been maybe the marlboro dungeon and underwater dungeon would have had far less attention unless they worked them into the city story part for pacing.
It was bad then and is bad now.
The dark age of Square Enix continues.
>kagari is actually in the development for Reset ERA
desu if you enjoy this game you deserve to have your threads ruined by XV-kun
>reviewers and the general public have shit taste
More at 11.
How do I even gain XP as a level 60?
>Quests are too slow.
>No dungeons to spam
>Beast tribes only get you about 600k XP when you need 4.5mil
>Hunts don't give nearly enough to justify doing.
So XV-kun new weapon is gonna call everyone Neogaf?
yep - before that it was gamefaqs
Always remember
...doesn't neogaf like xv
and even if they don't, the xv subreddit seems to like it. regardless, why would you start telling people to go back to another forum, especially when you're known for having an account on literally every forum that discusses xv
>Banned
i wonder what finally caused it; did they hear about the threat to rape kagari or was it something on the forum itself
They probably said that Cindy looks "hot."
He probably said something retarded there
>farm coins and fuse with magic to get experiencecast
>enter any high-level hunt and cast these spells
>re-peat until you're level 99
Honestly, don't do that, you'll become too overpowered and most of the fights will become plain boring.
And you honestly shouldn't even bother with lvl80+ ones
Also forgot, you have to sleep in the Altissia hotel for 3x XP boost
The Assassin's Creed crossover is surprisingly well made, maybe too well made for what it is.
>What went SO wrong with these points in FFXV?
>>The story
Gutted to be sold back as DLC
>>The characters
their development happened in an anime
>>The gameplay
>>The open world
>>The side quests
all of these can be blamed on Tataba
Why would you even think about leveling up?
Those quads speak the truth
>The Assassin's Creed crossover is surprisingly well made
I liked AC (minus the modern day bullshit) but that was not enough to get me back into playing this crappy game.
Same with the DLCs
and fuck the Multiplayer. I am not spending $10 to Hold O with random strangers online
>tfw thought this was the XIV thread
I'll show myself out.
I put 130 hours into it launch month, skipped all the DLC because I figured the PC version would include all of it. I'll grab that when the itch to replay strikes. Really great game, glad I played it before BOTW so the open world was really cool
Spent $20 on this mess, not spending a single cent more.
Combat sucked
Story sucked
Characters sucked
the "romance" (it's even worse than FF8s) sucked
>the story is good
>the characters are good
And no I'm not about to just make a point with green texting like the idiot you responded to.
Story:
The game is a series of 3 Macguffins, all of which end up being near inconsequential excluding the ring. Because the entire main real goal is to get placed in the hyperbolic time chamber.
Those astrals like Ramuh and Titan? Forget it. Those Royal Arms? Ha. Forget it. Reuniting with Luna ended how it did and the game tried really hard to make you feel emotional for a character who had an inconsequential amount of screen time. Am I supposed to feel Noctis loss by pretending I'm him and not some spectator to his journey. Motivations for everybody from the emperor in Kingsglaive to Ardyn himself are clusterfucks. And it's going to take an entire post to talk about shit on why he would help the crystal get stolen if he's just going to put Noctis in it anyways.
The fucking train. The fucking exposition train. The empire invades. Ardyn does stuff. Major plot points happen and are resolved on that train. Ardyn does stuff. Even the story version of filler happens on that train.
Starcourge. So you're telling me. That this event that turns people into daemons and disappear didn't affect a single main fucking character? Didn't even subcharacters. The Oracle is dead. All it did was cause night and made the darkness a big nono zone.
This is ignoring that the starscourge is
NOT
FUCKING
ORIGINAL
en.wikipedia.org
Fuck there's not enough space to talk about characters. But you know that part where Noctis is being a bitch and he continues being a bitch well onto his Titan segment with Gladiolus? About here is where I emotionally distanced myself with the game. This little fuck is trained in the most potent magic in that world/realm. Has 3 true companions. Is betrothed to the 3rd most attractive woman in the land. And for 3 quarters of any random moment just bitches nonstop.
something off about this image
it's from the trailer for the Mobile Strike reskin phone game.
it's so fucking amateurish
Kingsglaive would have been a better game than FFXV
...
it's not the only "trailer"
it was alright
up to the face noctis is making
That one doesn't look nearly as bad if you like stupid shit. Noctis' face though
Wow, no pride or effort was involved in the creation of that shit.
>noctis' face at the end
holy shit they need to stop
This piece of art is better than the entire movie and the game, the art in this game is amazing
I still hop onto this game because of the comfy factor. Anyone else hype to make a dumb avatar and hunt around with friends? I just want to hang out in camps cooking food with the homies
They lost all dignity, they really dont care at this point
It sucked then and it still sucks now. Nothing can fix it so just cut your losses and move on.
dumb zoiposter
Bad game but I enjoyed it enough at release. I'll probably replay it when the complete version drops on PC; hope it runs well.
>Anyone else hype to make a dumb avatar and hunt around with friends?
No because it would require me to pay extra to Hold O with random dudes.
I have 4GO for online and MH World comes out next year
why exactly do you want to replay a "bad game" ?
I don't think you can exactly talk about taste when you own 4GO.
I own a mix of good games and questionable games (like 4GO and XV).
Ah at least you're self aware my good man. I hope all the good things in life happen to you.
Speaking as someone who put a grand total of 270 hours into the game. The updates besides DLC like Prompto/Gladio don't add too much. Some new costumes and occasionally a new cutscene, but for the most part the base game is the same. Although now, Chapter 13 can be beaten much more quickly with the inclusion of Verse 2. Personally though, I liked Chapter 13. I loved the atmosphere and tension. Anyways, Episode Gladio is, good, it's a bit too short though. You can beat it in an hour. Possibly even shorter. But, the "A New Blademaster" trophy is so fun. Episode Prompto on the other hand is fantastic. And I loved every second of it. I'll be honest, XV is my 3rd favorite FF though, so I am biased.
