This game was under rated.
As far as spinoffs go, it hit the mark pretty well. Shame for its terrible timing, it should have swapped release dates with Samus Returns.

art style is shit, although I can put up with that. gyro aiming on the other hand is a deal-breaker especially after we already had good touch aim in Hunters. in fact the whole thing just seems shit because of Hunters which had good designs and controls even if had almost zero singleplayer.
I thought the worst thing about this game was how mediocre it was. For a "critique" or "connoisseur", there is nothing worse than a game that sits right in the middle. It's just boring. Something bad can at least be made fun of, or it can be used to learn from it.
That being said, it'd be unfair to critisize it harsher for being mediocre than we critisize other games for being flat-out bad. On this note, I wanna add that
Fed Force > Other M,
on almost every level.
shit it doesn't even have touch control? hunters is so much better with the circle pad + touch screen, it's a good combination for FPS. they could even have dual circle pad controls if you have a n3ds/circle pad pro. I know Sup Forums hates the game but I still want to try it out one day.
What the hell kind of backwards ass opinion is this?
Hunters was shit on for YEARS for having an unbearable control scheme. Federation Force literally plays identical to Prime 1 and 2 from a control standpoint
>Actually ragging on gyro aim
Are you an idiot? It's one of the best control schemes in years and makes aiming accurately bearable. Stylus aim gives you cramps like crazy after an hour or two at best, it's one of the few things this game did right.
I dislike the gyro-aim too, but not because I don't find it to be a viable control-option. For smaller adjustements, I think gyro is a great way to accuracy to a controler-based shooter control scheme. As such, I think it works wonder together with a dual stick set-up or in this case, a lock-on mechanic.
I dislike it, because it requires you to move the handheld in such a way that it breaks the stereoscopic 3D effect of the top screen.
Better than other m and Am2R at least
absolutely wrong
Only Nintendo can manage to take a concept as cool as a mech game set in the Metroid universe, and end up with a game about cartoon astronauts rolling balls around.
gyro aim is dumb when you're moving the screen as well, though.
Wrong about what?
Hunters was definitely insulted for it's controls since release, and federation force definitely just uses standard prime controls.
What here are you disagreeing with?
They made the ball game first and then slapped the Metroid IP onto it, actually
Get these fucking liar shills off my board, go to Reddit you fucking cuck
Worked fine for both OoT and MM. Plus it was fine for me in the demo so unless you're really adamant about the 3D it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Tanabe said that this game was meant to be Metroid from day 1.
And I believed him!
The only thing this game suffered from was terrible art direction.
If it used an actually realistic or visually appealing style, they could have put more emphesis on how huge the mech suits are, which is probably the coolest aspect of the game.
However, I also would have appreciated a bit more lore. Maybe give a few scan logs explaining that the mechs are a reverse engineered Power Suit, which is clearly implied, but not as set in stone as it should have been. Hell, it would have been even cooler if the mechs had a sight power suit look to them, to push this point even further.
Now I'm just being greedy, but a hub for the levels would have been nice too. According to Tanabe, FF was always supposed to be about creating a stronger relationship between the player and the federation, but even still it all feels impersonal. A hub where you can walk around a federation ship, talk to other fed troopers, or scan files for quick lore between levels would have gone a long way.
All in all though it was fine for a quick spinoff. I wish it didn't come at such a poor time because it really deserves more recognition

and the terrible ball escort missions, the terrible out-of-suit segments, the bullet sponge enemies compared to any other Metroid game, and so on. I mean, Hunters had its issues too don't get me wrong, but Federation Force felt like it learned almost nothing or even did things worse at times.
Agreed, those retards on Reddit think a 2D Metroid game needs to sell a million copies. Why is Reddit retarded?
See, I had no issues with any of that. Maybe it's because I played with other players (the way it's meant to be played), but having 2 other people shooting at a boss makes the higher health much more justifyable, the ball escort missions very quick and painless, despite yes, I would agree that they are the lowest point in the game. They are few and far between though.
I also had no problem at all with the out of suit missions. Only thing I would have changed was the controls.
Except in Oot and MM you're not always using it AND it's optional
Of topic but doesn't deserve a new thread.
Anyone have that picture of the prototype federation mech that is clearly supposed to look like a power suit? It's super bulky looking and front heavy
maybe because it's a COOP game and those usually do that kind of thing
look at Peace walker and its boss fights for example, those take a long fucking time to beat unless you've got a few buddies to play with
here it is
wasted potential desu
Thanks thanks thanks.
Yea could you imagine if this is what we played as in FF? It feels so much more inspired than poorly proportioned federation armor
