Devil May Cry hd collection

Is this thing worth the 7$ on psn right now? How does the combat compare to something like Bloodborne/souls?

Pretty much nothing like Bloodborne/Souls, other than high difficulty (in 1 and 3 at least). Combat is very stylish and fast, rewards you for long and varied combos. Great games though, except for 2 which loses pretty much everything that made 1 (and later 3) great. If you like the trilogy would also recommend DMC4 (if you have PS4 you can get the enhanced edition with extra characters who all play pretty differently).

What a faggot
Yes, DMC 3 alone is worth your $7

>bloodborne/souls
it's a fucking CUHRAYZEE not a souls game. The first one is like Resident Evil but not shitty and you use a sword, the second one is an abomination never aknowledged by anyone and the third is Bayonetta with pizza

>How does the combat compare to something like Bloodborne/souls?
It's completely different much faster paced but as someone mentioned before DMC3 alone is worth it. 1 is also pretty good, 2 is pretty much universally regarded as the worst of the 3 though so I'd keep that in mind when you play 2.

>The first one is like Resident Evil
No it's not, not even remotely. Stop giving advice on games you've never touched, retard.

>How does the combat compare to something like Bloodborne/souls?
you're a retard.

>No it's not, not even remotely.
it is though, it's got a dark atmosphere and a funky static camera

Didn't it start off as a Resident Evil game?

>the second one is an abomination never aknowledged by anyone
Guy who has actually played all three games before, 2 isn't an abomination, it is just boring and soulless. There is a difference.

An abomination is something like DmC that takes something beloved and irrevocably corrupts it beyond recognition.

Yes and it's exactly like a souls game, except the combat is faster and controls completely different and dodging is completely different and there's no stamina bar and the game is set up into linear levels. Also the goal of the gameplay is to go absolutely cuhrahzy and fly around the room switching weapons and styles juggling enemies in the air and looking stylish. Otherwise it's exactly like a souls game.

The game was developed originally as Resident Evil 4, but it got too crazy so they turned it into it's own thing. Don't listen to this retard, the atmosphere takes unmistakable notes from Resident Evil.

...

Have you never played DMC before? Are you a child?

Man remember when Vergil performs an abortion with a sniper rifle that was fucking wack.

he could have aborted that baby with his big dick alone

Do not buy the digital version on PSN. DMC3 has a freezing problem when you pause the game. If you really want to play this on PS3, go for physical version.

That doesn't make it play anything like Resident Fucking Evil, cunt.
And then it got rebranded as something else because it was nothing like Resident Evil. Shit, guys, go play the game.

The combat is faster with no need for turn taking outside of bosses, its worth it. Also DMC2 isn't bad, just kinda mild when compared to 1 and 3. People think it's bad because it's from a time when people still thought games needed to be a certain level of good to hold their own in a respective series. You know, standards. I bought the PS2 collection and loved it, DMC1 is my favorite but the most difficult.

(You)

combat rewards you for gittin gud
combat is far more fast paced
combat on higher difficulties requires spatial awareness (Dante must die, etc.)
similar games with this are bayonetta, and kh2fm on crit
there are cheese strats for some parts of the game if you really can't git gud, but what's the point then?
DMC2 is alright, but not as good as the rest of the games in the series

HIROSHIMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

But it's LIKE resident evil
see, i didn't lie

It's nothing like Resident Evil, you retarded shit.

Prove it

>exploring a big spooky mansion alone
>giant spiders
>various other ghouls and ghosts
>limited healing items
>violence

>kh2fm on crit
>even on the same level
top kek, KHfags are so pathetic

I just platinumed 1. I know 2 is easy as fuck because you can enable cheats, is 3 harder than 1?

i felt pretty violated having to fight a helicopter tBh

Hi XV kun.

It's easier on lower difficulties but much harder on DMD.

Not even, and that's a poor deflection you idiots always use when someone brings up flaws with your kids game, KH2 offers very little in comparison to every legitimate action game and you know it. The lack of extra weapons, costumes, combat options and enemies worth fighting alone prove it.

is 1 easy to plat? i was thinking of getting this myself too

>lack of extra weapons
Which is why your moveset is so large and you have forms that give you completely new movesets.
>costumes
In what games does this actually affect anything?
>combat options
Ignoring all the melee attacks, you have 5 spells which can be used mid combo, 4 summons that give unique abilities and 5 forms with unique movesets and abilities.
>enemies worth fighting
Like living bones, shamans, rot rods, devastators, berserkers, sorcerers, all the enemies in the cavern of remembrance and all late game bosses.

Well if you've done a lot of hard plats it gets to the point where nothing phases you anymore, this is a hard plat, not notably harder than any other challenging plats, it's just a hard plat. Trophies are generic, get all collectibles, do all secret mission, beat game without dying (just do it on easiest difficulty and reload your save when you die) and beat it on hardest difficulty.

Only bit which is of any challenge is beating the game on DMD mode, only tricky parts are the boss fights, most notably the third fight with Angelo. I would say it the boss fight has the same intensity as Orphan of Kos but for all the wrong reasons, shitty stiff controls and a camera which is so awful the game feels like a parody of itself, while the boss is throwing projectiles at you sometimes the camera will show you the opposite side of the arena, it's fucking awful.

It's a challenging game but not through fair controls or good design.

Pretty easy. Beating DMD is probably the hardest but getting all enemy files is the might be most annoying.

>2 isn't an abomination
>An abomination is something like DmC
You're retarded.

>not getting physical copy for DMC colection
>not buying Darkstalkers sale instead

You have almost zero agency in what you can do in those forms, it has very limited branching paths and for the most part you don't need to focus on when you hit square to change up the combo, and thanks to the way the game works with its leveling system you can always brute force the majority of challenges in your way, and with limit form you can brute force your way through most of the optional content.

Really what kills it is the lack of reliance on any "tech" you can do, yeah chicken little can draw enemies in with a magnet but you never at any point have to do it on higher difficulty modes unless you do some sort of self imposed challenge which we aren't discussing. Really because of the leveling system by its nature of being an ARPG, you don't need to know about what certain mechanics do or even use them, critical never gets you in a situation where you have to use a specific summon, you can go out of your way and avoid using them all game if you want. Also lets not mention that melee attacks aren't even dial-a-combo like in bayonetta where you at the very least have some form of agency, it's a rail road with very few switches in between.
For drive forms once you gain final and limit you don't need any other because it's not efficient and in some cases even stunts you, like Valor form. Lets not forget Anti-form exists as a drawback on using the mechanic, regardless of if you're keeping count in your head the idea that you have to watch out for something like that is bad game design. Imagine if you use royal guard more than ten times you have 50% chance have your next guard just not work, or even worse, cripple your ability to play and punish you for it. It's stupid and hurts the game more than anything else. Costumes really are a nice reward for beating the game and encouraging replay ability, which 2 doesn't have because all of its best content is at the end and how much of a slog the majority of the game is.

Please, Mr. Antoniades, we have been over this before.

It's different.
Souls relies more mitigating damage and attacking when opportunistic. DMC is more about dishing out offense and converting hit confirms.
Souls has higher difficulty then usually the first two stock difficulties of DMC -- after that, DMC becomes substantially more difficult.
DMC has a properly fleshed out cancellation systems and gatling systems and actual offense, while Souls has none really.
DMC is more about skill and creativity while Souls is more about memorization and planning.
The earlier Souls games have worse bosses, but BB/DkS3 have mostly better bosses.
Souls has better enemies and a much more call-and-response style of enemy interplay that DMC does not.
There is a infinite execution ceiling for DMC.

I got the Collection a little while back after only ever playing 4SE before. I'm about halfway through DMC1 and while it's really neat to see the origins of the tenants for basically everything in the subgenre it's VERY different. The atmosphere and camera are definitely rooted in the fact that it started as Resident Evil. Dodging is also really janky since it's based on the direction Dante is facing as you hold R1 and with the static camera it can be difficult to get a handle of that. I'm very excited to get to DMC3 once I finish it. I'll probably give DMC2 an hour or so to see what it's like.

That FUCKING Cow Skull ghost with the shears though.

Yes it did.
>It plays nothing like resident evil.
>t. hasn't played DMC1 recently.
Yes, running around backtracking through fixed camera levels picking up puzzle shit for doors is nothing like RE.
Nobody is saying the combat is the same, just that there's a clear RE influence on the game.

>That FUCKING Cow Skull ghost with the shears though.
kek
I loved 1, but 3 and 4 is probably one of the rare cases where a sequel takes two steps forward and only one step back.
the only thing that was actually annoying and poorly implemented in 1 was the platforming and the underwater areas.
