Can we agree that, while good games in their own right, GSC are pretty flawed games and not the peak of pokemon?

>Bitter bitter gen z bitch upset they never got to experience the peak of Pokemon
I feel for you plebs, truly I do
I'm pretty sure people can buy a GSC cart or emulate it still.
I agree to those, but back in the day when we loved them for what they were it we didn't really notice it.
>REVISITING KANTO? AWESOME!
t. smol me
No we can't, because all the Pokémon games are flawed, but the flaws of Gen 2 are the least significant/intrusive.
>GSC cart
Enjoy never being able to keep your savefile.
The game still aged like wine. Such a comfy game to play.
>awful level curve
Having a disadvantage for the elite four is bad
If you fight all the trainers and shit you see in the game/some Pokemon along the way and challenge the gym leaders and elite four without grinding it's a really fucking fun challenge. And then they also added gym leader rematches and an elite four rematch in the remakes.
What are you even complaining about
Team rocket shits on any of the other overly unbelievable villains in the series. They actually had goals that could possibly obtained, not just hurr Durr turn everything into land or water, or super space time dimension universe faggotry.
The music is great, I'm glad you could also go through Kanto too. I mean you can only fit so much on the cartridges back then. Gonna be flaws in any game so you're not wrong on everything but I don't completely agree. Plus I am not into the extreme autism of breeding and IVs and EVs. I'm not competitive in regards to Pokemon so I'm not demanding it to be taken out or anything, but I will say there was a bit of magic as a kid, catching a Pokemon and never using it until it was your last one against a hard gym battle then managing to barely defeat it and win. Then it grows like 3 levels and the thing gains your respect and you use it from there on out. Now it's just catch a Pokemon, run it through your computer autism brain chart to see if viable in the least, and toss it out if it doesn't have the ability or nature you wanted. You'd build a team of Pokemon you liked/grew with throughout the game.
Shitty rant, but whatever.
Youre wrong damnit. Jhoto is best region REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Enough of this retarded generation war, post your theme teams.
Team Prehysteria here
>no Cradily
Shit taste
Bug type best type.
It's a game about monsters fighting each other with magic powers, believability isn't a huge factor to really consider here.
Gen 1 team rocket was pretty good but they're much sillier and less threatening in GSC overall. Team plasma had a pretty interesting concept but then they bullshit at the last second instead of having a villain with a actually interesting goal. And for pure charm I have to give it to team skull. As shit as SM were team skull were genuinely great.
Worst part about these games is that the internal battery shits the bed and you can't save the game unless you pull the cart apart and replace the battery,
>Heracross
Get out
HGSS is just an improved version desu, although it keeps some of the same flaws

Let me guess, you're a Pincerfag?
Pincers a bitch too
If you can't defend a game without saying "You had to be there" than that means your argument is 100% nostalgia based.
>Team Rocket confirmed for US/UM
>>awful level curve
git gud
>>most of johto consists of old kanto pokemon
Its almost like there were only two generations of Pokemon to choose from and there were 151 Kanto Pokemon and only 100 Johto Pokemon (91 of which could in fact be found in Johto)
>>johto is quite small
same amount of towns and dungeons as Kanto
>>kanto is neutered
As if Kanto was good to begin with. Considering Kanto wasn't originally going to be in the game at all, I'll take it.
>>rocket again is a cop out
Rocket and Skull are the ONLY good villainous teams, the rest are all edgy FUCK THE WORLD I WANT TO DESTROY [home region] BECAUSE REASONS
>Can we agree that, while good games in their own right, GSC are pretty flawed games and not the peak of pokemon?
Yes, HG/SS are the peak of Pokemon.
Get a load of this faggot. In my country we throw your I'll off of roofs
So you have no other way to defend your point?
When did you assume that the awful level curve meant it was hard? Most of the gym leaders are completely underlevelled, all of the wild pokemon are completely underlevelled.
>his favorite Psychic type isn't Mewtwo
Nope, Crystal is the best pokemon game.
Then what's the problem?
Mewtwo is a cool guy but Espeon is cooler.
johto is based because it's rural and has a bunch of shinto stuff
comfiest region ever despite its flaws
also don't diss team rocket, the fucking mafia will always be the best antagonists in pokemon

There are better psychics.
Levels should be at a good difficulty, pokemon games like platinum or gen5 constantly have the enemies at good levels, without grinding the enemy trainers still have take some strategy and the difficulty is just right for what you would expect from a pokemon game. In gen 2 whenever it goes non linear it makes the gyms all the same level which means that you will be overpowered for the next one, being overlevelled means there is zero challenge. Removing that little difficulty their was from pokemon makes the combat absolutely mindless and the least fun it has ever been, look at b2w2 for a good pokemon game where the level balance is good.
>awful level curve
the level curve isn't why i like pokemon
>most of johto consists of old kanto pokemon
old pokemon are one of the reasons i like pokemon
>johto is quite small, kanto is neutered
johto doesn't feel small at all to me and what's in it is a lot of fun
>rocket again is a cop out
gsc is a direct sequel to rby and just because you cut the head off a criminal organization doesn't mean it suddenly disappears. it made sense to follow up on it and i don't think there was anything wrong with it. also the part with lance was great.
I wish opponents weren't so underleved but nonlinearity takes precedence so if that's the price I have to pay, then so be it. Fair enough trade off.
This place flip-flops so much. One day BW2 is the best game ever, another day it's GSC, and another it's HGSS.
>Levels should be at a good difficulty
They are, the only Gym leaders in gen 2 with underleveled Pokemon are Pryce, Jasmine, and Chuck. The ones before and Claire are all at a fine level and provide plenty of challenge for a Pokemon game.
>without grinding the enemy trainers
>He doesn't fight every trainer he sees
What a fucking pleb you are
>look at b2w2 for a good pokemon game where the level balance is good.
B2W2 were pretty great yeah. Too bad the ACTUAL hard mode was locked until after you beat the game and there was no postgame.
It depends if pokemonfags or nostalgiafags are in the thread.
You're retarded.
The holy trinity of Pokemon games are HG/SS, Platinum, and B2/W2.
>They are, the only Gym leaders in gen 2 with underleveled Pokemon are Pryce, Jasmine, and Chuck.
Also every kanto gym leader
>What a fucking pleb you are
I do that, I don't classify it as grinding.
>B2W2 were pretty great yeah. Too bad the ACTUAL hard mode was locked until after you beat the game and there was no postgame.
Even the normal game still has a pretty good difficulty level and pokemon distribution (which gen 2 lacks), the hard mode makes it better but it sucks that they locked it until after.
>Is still fun
Oh look it has what most modern games are completely missing
This is a fact. I really fucking hope the switch version focuses on giving us good features and endgame. Fuck their lazy bullshit.
What this guy said Gen 2 has its flaws but it had the best sprite-work, art design, music, atmosphere IMO. It also added a ton of cool features like day/night cycle, cell-phones, battle tower in Crystal, a variety in environments especially due to two regions if together they equate the size of one region in other games. Gen 2 also had the best endgame boss being Red. Lastly, Gen 2 has some of the best support out of the gens in terms of Rom hacks with those fixing admitted flaws in the GBC which was mainly just the level-curve.
Even if HG/SS added QoL improvements to GBC the aesthetic/music was far more enjoyable in the originals.
>not going full autism
>music
There's a few tracks where the redone versions are worse, but that's it
>aesthetic
Fuck no, take your nostalgiagoggles off.
>GSC are pretty flawed games
Agreed.
>and not the peak of pokemon?
I disagree.
GSC have some major flaws, but I think all the other games have just as many flaws or more, and I feel GSC's strengths relative to its flaws outshine the strengths of the other games, though there are a lot of other games I like in Pokémon (pretty much everything before Gen 6 is at worst playable).
Game Freak is just a shitty company that doesn't know what it's doing and got lucky, and it always has been.
Yeah I'm surprised so few people are talking about that. It's not like the other news was a sleeper for USUM like this one, the Megalopolis one got a ton of threads.
>GEN1 Dragon
I don't remember fanfiction tier black Charizard.
Nah disagree in the end it's a subjective thing anyway and I don't have any nostalgia for Pokemon quit projecting faggot
Just replace the battery. Our old saves are long gone but new ones will last years after a battery replacement.
Considering replaying it after I finish Alpha Sapphire. I don't really remember it outside of it being nice that it had the gen 1s region in it too.
Mostly I wish there was a working DS emulator for the old 3ds. White/Black 2 is what I really want to try and playing on a phone or pc can't hold my attention for more than ten minutes.
>Gen 2 lacks Pokemon distribution
In what fucking universe? You have access to Water, Fighting, Electric, Ghost, and Psychic type all before the second Gym.
GSC has been surpassed in every aspect, Platinum has better music, gameplay, pokemon distribution and while a very subjective topic (and why it shouldn't be used as an argument) I liked its atmosphere more.
I'm saying it has bad pokemon distribution, its all of the same kanto pokemon, they lock away lots of the new ones until after the elite four to the point where quite a lot of people think Skarmory or Slugma were gen 3 pokemon just because they were so out of the way in gen 2.
It's almost like Sup Forums is more than one person
I think Platinum is a pretty good game, so even if I disagree I respect your opinion. Sinnoh's music and region design are its biggest strengths, and I hope Ancient Platinum (a Gen 2 hack that aims to recreate Sinnoh) gets finished one day. A lot of Sinnoh music has already been backported and it sounds great.
>tfw your childhood battery DID last, you have a save manager and flashcart, and you backed that shit up to the cloud and your personal hard drives
All those moments will be kept through time, like tears in a jar. Time to play. :^)
I'm pretty sure you're listing subjective things you enjoyed more in Platinum too even aside from atmosphere. Between Gold/Silver/Crystal you could catch nearly all Pokemon between the two gens. Sure some were out of the way but that's just you being a casual shitter some pokemon are more difficult to catch so what it's part of the challenge.
How long do batteries typically last? I'm 31 and have literally never had one die on me. Truth be told I had completely forgotten it was possible until this thread mentioned it.
Do I need to panic or do I have time?
Gameplay isn't subjective, it is objectively better in gen iv due to the physical special split.
this is the type of plebian opinion I'd expect from Nintendo shills. You probably like Gen 6 too, you dumb fag.
My copy of Silver gave out around 10-12 years after I got it, but my sister's copy of Gold lasted like 15, it's not consistent. If you want to back up your game you should do it sooner than later.
I dunno man, seems like it's a wildcard. I don't know what the latest and greatest hardware for saving your saves is, but this is what I used a few years ago to get the saves off the carts at least.
Jesus how are all of mine not dead yet? Most of my carts have to be 20+ years old now.
Are the batteries in American carts just better or something? It's not like it would be unprecedented for Nintendo to fuck over everyone who isn't American and it seems incredible none of mine have ever died.
>I'm saying it has bad pokemon distribution
But you're wrong here, too. Also it's hardly fair to compare Gen 4's pokemon distribution to Gen 2's, when Gen 4 has almost 250 more Pokemon than Gen 2.
>its all of the same kanto pokemon
It's not, though, even though it easily could have been, since, once again, there were only two generations of Pokemon for them to use. There are multiple routes with unique Pokemon to that route, such as Route 38 being the only place you could get Tauros, Miltank, or Magnemite. Route 39 having Meowth. Dark cave having Dunsparse and Wobbuffet. Route 40 with Mantine. 34 with Snubbull. The list goes on.
>they lock away lots of the new ones until after the elite four

>Skarmory
Was not locked to Kanto.

I have to work with Chinamen though and I hate them. The thought of giving them anymore money is really unpalatable.
gl finding a ds flashcart from a US distributor.
That's still a subjective preference. Special/physical split was only beneficial for some pokemon while others like Alakazam lost the versatility of moves such as elemental punches.
>is screen broken?
>dad is laughing so I am probably doing something wrong
>maybe I need to do different gesture?
>I am being recorded
>better go to my room and try to figure it out in peace and quite
I wonder if Team Rocket returning for USM will upset many genwunners.
I suppose I can but as someone who works for a US electronics distributor I know more than most that the money always eventually gets back to the eternal Chinaman. I suppose I can take hope that whoever gets the end dollar ends up spending it on opium instead of rice a dog meat for their infernal hellspawn.
Template?
If it does that'd be hilarious
>make Kalos have a ridiculous amount of Kanto treats for them
>make Alola forms of old Pokemon
>Red and Blue/Green return
>rerelease of the original 2 gens
>Team Rocket returns to fuck shit up
>still not happy and probably unhappier than they were before
Man
You know something is wrong when a fucking fangame is better and more interesting than Gen 2
Not really because no one gives a fuck about some fakemon fangame.
Are you stupid?
They were made as direct sequels to Gen 1 so it's a bit unfair to look at them the same way you look at other Gens. They weren't designed to be different and new so much as a follow-up to what came before it.
The English versions of GSC aren't even 18 years old yet. My RBY batteries still work, because they don't have the real-time clock that drains the battery much faster.
Why would you use Uranium as an example, with its fucking OC type?
>be a kid.
No internet back in the day
>finished Red before Gold
>Finish Gold by beating Elite four
>think this is it its over.
>randomly find the cruise questline and step out in fucking Kanto
>can collect all the old badges and see what happened there after Red
Mind was blown back then almost as much when i found Red in that cave
I have carts much older than Gold and Silver though and none of them have died.
Same. It's the RTC specifically that makes GSC's battery die fast.
Finally, not just another cheap knockoff group with a random theme slapped on it.
Well said op. Jhoto kids are always so obviously blinded by nostalgia it hurts
They should have done this years ago desu, I can’t even remember the team from X/Y
Polished Crystal is a great fan game. Fixes all the glitches, makes the levsl curve and gyms better without being obnoxiously hard, and reintroduces areas in Kanto well as some areas from hgss. Only complaint is they removed a few pokemon outright like the Hoppip line in order to put in some gen 4 evos like Magmortar and such.
But yeah, play it. Got me back into gen 2 nostalgia.
Team Flare
Pay 50k pokedollars as an entrance fee and be spared when Lysandre used life absorbing superweapon to make his "beautiful world" by causing the extinction of Pokemon and any non-flare humans. Red outfits and shades, obsessed with fashion. Leader commits suicide when you beat him as he intentionally collapses the cave by activating the weapon while the power source was removed.
Flawed games, yes. Not the peak of pokemon? It's hard to put that on an objective scale when so many of the games seem to appeal to different audiences.
But having the best atmosphere/aesthetics in the series in combination with nostalgia makes G/S/C my favorite, hands down.
go away new genner
Oh yeah that’s right, they really should have made a new team be the de facto antagonists for the franchise, because just swapping out the team every gen is so forgettable.

yeah
i haven't played gen 7 yet but so far it seems like the odd numbered gens are fantastic and introduce the most new pokemon/best regions while the even numbered gens are a lot more lazy, uninspired and boring
Nope. Here is the official ranking:
4 = 2 > 5 > 3 > 1 >>>>>>>>> 6 >>>>>>>>>>> shit >>>> 7
Solid ranking surprisingly.
I always thought gsc was a let down, but Sup Forums kept sucking its dick. now people are realizing how overrated it was, but they'll still call me nu-Sup Forums for saying I told you so.
I see you're a man of fine taste too, user.
Platinum is better, desu.
Yeah, I mean, I don't like the idea of ranking 1 so low, but the region itself isn't as good as the others. It's great for the nostalgia, but even the water world that is gen 3 brings something a bit different to the table. And I can play Crystal, Platinum, and HG/SS all day.
Team Flare honestly was really forgettable to me too, I only remember them because of Lysandre's great boss theme with clicking at the beginning and the shape of the superweapon.
I'm ok with Rocket making a comeback, even if they aren't original I liked their outfits and just criminal goals rather than insane reformations of the planet or society stuff.
I don't know how to feel about this jiff.
