Terraria vs Starbound

Now that both games have been updated a good deal, which is better?

Starbound for comfy, Terraria for everything else

Starbound was super comfy for building. Everything else in it was a fucking chore, unless they changed it fundamentally in the last few patches.
Terraria does everything else much better.

Haven't played Terraria in a while, they're still updating the game after all these years?

Terraria is a million times better. Starbound was a bigger disappointment than No Mans Sky.

Packing some major exaggerations there buddy.

Yes, and there's a modding scene.

What makes Terraria less comfy?

starbound was clearly not finished at launch, feels as if they were running out of money because the mission quality takes a nosedive quickly

are you baiting
Terraria is a great game, Starbound is a huge blunder, there's no comparison really. They tried to ride on Terraria's coattails and failed badly because they're incompetent fucks.

Terraria got better with updates

Starbound got shittier with updates

Terraria, no contest.

This.

But then Terraria is way better, was made by fewer people than Starbound, and it didn't have 1m dollars in preorders* to fund its development. The Starbound dev team is simply incredibly incompetent.

*read: masked crowdfunding because they asked for money way before it had a release date

Starbound has better graphics and more decorative objects and furniture.
It's better for making a comfy house.

Terraria, is this even a question?

Terraria.
Starbound has better combat, but there's nothing to do besides the main storyline. Very linear, no base building or anything.

They've "stopped development" like three times now, but every time they do, Otherworld gets pushed back a bit so Red pumps out a few more updates to keep people satisfied.

Re-logic is based af. This $10 2D crafting game from six years ago gets more fucking support than pretty much every single AAA game.

Is that moddable mecha vehicles update out for Starbound?

yup

every terraria update removed features

reminder

>terraria
fuck, meant starbound
terraria's updates are great

1 m i l l i o n

what am I looking at here?

Terraria with or without mods. Starbound is just kind of mechanically butt. It's a good collecting game, but yea...its meh to actually control/fight.

One million dollars.

terraria has more content but I like building stuff in starbound more.
i think terraria takes it in the end though

>that Terraria image

Terraria for exploration, progression, loot
Starbound for building and ERP

Both have a mod scene. Terraria's modscene tends to add more of what makes terraria good
Starbound's modscene tends to add more races. It's one shining star of a mod is basically a minecraft-type mod that adds a lot of crafting and automation and tools/weapons.

Both are worth a playthrough I feel. With a combined price of 25 bucks, you can potentially get hundreds of hours of entertainment from either.

fucking asshole poodle. someone made that box with a blanket for him and he chooses to lay on the fucking floor, fucking piece of shit

Chucklefuck decided that instead of working on the game, they should get an office puppy. They didn't bother getting it a bed, and just gave it a cardboard box too big for it to even climb inside, so it would just lay on the floor next to it. Of course, this was even more retarded because the cardboard box was set down next to fucking electrical wires. They would leave it there overnight as well since it was supposed to be the office's puppy, and it would shit and piss all over the place because it was left alone all night.

Finally one of the employees realized how fucking stupid this was and adopted it.

>there are people in this board who didn't like starbound at all, but still fell for 3d starbound with even more procedural generation.

explain yourselves

Christ, I don't even want to know what's considered bannable on e621.

why did i even assume that.

I haven't played around with mods but Starbound has a lot more to do, the quest system and colony/space station construction adds a lot. The space combat is pretty boring until you acquire some upgrades.

Starbound just has much more variety than Terraria

Starbound has a lot of gimmicks and additional stuff but the core gameplay is just heinous and shit.

>core gameplay is just heinous and shit.

How so? It's really no different than Terraria

not him but I do remember the combat being absolutely fucking awful, there was no weight to the attacks, and enemy AIs were very repetitive, and there were like 3 total

Played both, simply prefer the look and feel of Starbound.

I feel the same way about Starbound toward Terraria as I do Jak 3 to Jak 2.

The game has all these quirky little side mechanics, but the entire time I play I wish I was using them in the latter game instead.

Except for the one that removed the mechanic of being able to capture animals spawned from statues. I don't know why they did that shit.

You wish Terracuck

Starbound has more variety but that doesn't make it better by any stretch. 10 things done poorly to middlingly isn't as good as a game that does a few things well.

NPC quests tend to be pretty uninteresting. Usually just 'bring my friend here" or "buy me this item from this merchant' or 'bring me this food." And fittingly, the rewards aren't that great. The only real reason you'd typically want to do quests is to get ship crewmates, which aren't all that useful considering you can bring only 2 with you anywhere, and they tend to die pretty quickly. It is nice having buffs on your ship though.
The colony building feels the same way, except you get rent on top of the normally bland quest rewards. (terraria also has rent collection, but it's not worth the effort. just like in starbound)

I haven't treid the space colony building or space combat yet. those might be good, unless the goal of the space colony is more "get me a futon please" quests.

Starbound for ERP.

Probably so players wouldn't exploit it for money/bait.
Not like there aren't other ways to do that though. But I suppose selling stacks of birds for 5 silver each as early as pre-hardmode might be a little gamebreaking I suppose.

>chucklefuck
I'll take Terraria

Let's decide this once and for all.
Which is the best Starbound race?

the bird guys
duh

My biggest problem with it is the fact that they completely pruned the system. Hell, even if it was just exclusive to the gold bug-net or post hardmode it wouldn't have been so bad. It just seems like a fun thing shouldn't have been completely axed for minor reasons.

>Intelligent, wise, and beauteous
>enjoyer of the arts
>peaceful lovers of nature
>best waifus and husbandos
>architectural masters
>smoothest skin in the most pleasing of colors
>best cuisine
>best entertainment
>most relaxing home planet

Of course, it's the Hylotl. Nothing else even comes remotely close. It's sad really.

Novakid.

Energy cowboys are sick. Shame such cool races are stuck in such a shitty game.

Speaking of races, is there any gameplay difference between them?
I remember that racial specialties were removed at one point...

Only difference is the ship layout as you progress.
People criticize chucklefish for the races being so samey gameplaywise, and I can understand that. But I also understand why they went with the "you picking this race doesn't automatically pidgeonhole you into this playstyle'

At least there's a mod (frackin' races) that gives all the vanilla races and some mod races special racial bonuses and abilities.

Very minor.

Ship, ship pet, and ship AI are different. Other than that, it's just racial armor, of which gives the same stats, just certain sets might have a different bonus from others if you collect the whole set. Aside from that, it's just slightly different quest names, though they're the same quests.

Oh, also what weapon you start out with.

all races are equivalent, any notion otherwise is bigotry

Purely cosmetic. It fucking sucks, I wish there was something, like a skilltree even, just to help get rid of this samey feel that plagues this game.

They're all the same lmfao.

Anons and anons (male), this is how you know a game sucks ass if the only thing keeping it relevant on Sup Forums is lowrate ERP and waifufaggots.

>Hyperscat

I'm familiar with regular scat, what the hell is "hyperscat"?

Does Starbound have a Story?

Yes
A really basic "an ancient evil has awoken" one, but it has one.

It's scat but in unrealistically large amounts

AN ANCIENT CTHULU EVIL HAS AWOKEN

pussies, guro is the epitome of good taste, it separates newfags and oldfags

man, I just really want a space game where we build shit and go through space, find Hubs, take quests, solve mysteries, level up, and fight monsters

>It's scat but in unrealistically large amounts

Thanks Sup Forumsirgin,

My appreciation though is a little tempered by my leeriness that you know this.

knowledge through osmosis, you just start to know things eventually

I wish the game was cut-downed to just one solar system with fleshed out worlds, instead of just a whole bunch with the bare-minimum of content.

Are there any essential mods for starbound?

>hurr durr ur a protector of the universe
>omg squid bro is destroying earth
>unskippable cutscenes galore as story is tied to progression
>tfw only thing you actually care about is the abc files and playing songs across the universe with your friend

Cutscene skip mod is a must

lol thats a terraria picture you fucking autist

Why not just tear off one side of the box??

what a mess hahahaha

These are people who worked on a game for two years, took over a million in pre-order money, and gave people a game with dozens of different colors of dirt that stacked separately.

You wish Starcuck
