a shame that Natsuki didn't get much to do compared to the other three. Her limited role in the second playthrough made her glitches more memorable, though.

God TaKes MOMMIES. aNd PuPPIES AWAY"). until it eventually leads you to an obnoxious mint green door.
At which point you'll be given no other choice but to take control of the MC who's now been registered to take part in drug trial along with 4 strangely familiar girls.

I was playing this shit at 4 AM and got to the part where Yuki and Nitsuki are fighting and you have to make your choice between them and best girl's face fuckin pops out of nowhere after it zooms in on the button choices..
I screenshot that face and send it over to a friend over Slack, leave my laptop on hibernate and go run some errands. I'm very easily startled, and since I forgot I took the screenshot, that face greets me in the Snipping Tool when I turn the laptop on, and when I close that one I'm met by the one I sent over Slack. Fuck sake.

Debatable whether or not the story's good or not, but regardless Steins;Gate will tear your heart out with pliers.
To The Moon will burn your soul to it's core before healing it and leaving you empty inside.
Then I suppose there's Clannad, which will tear your heart out with it's bare hands and crush it with a sledgehammer before feeding it to your dog who's just been diagnosed with cancer.

They're not that similar, but all 3 manage to make you feel for the characters greatly before making your eyes act like fountains.

Sayori is a computer program with set responses and no free will. She's not a girl, she's a static object made to look like a girl to attract forever alones. Monika is a computer program that has free will, the closest to a real person she can be. I already watched Steins;Gate and Clannad and played To the Moon. The first was great and well-cast, Clannad was mediocre but knew how to be a tearjerker, and To the Moon....

Interestingly this epiphany doesn't work so well if you delete Monika in your first run. No idea why that makes any difference.

They're better off being played, the S;G anime at least misses out on a lot of the soul crushing bits. I won't fault you for not reading it though.

Lost Odyssey is a bit further away again, but those written sections are 10/10 and a few of the scenes are great..
Soul Sacrifice is exceptional at the written sections and the execution of the story too, but the gameplay's a love or hate situation.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeons Red/Blue, Darkness/Time /Sky and Super Mystery Dungeon love to make you feel things.
I'm moving too far off base here, but I digress.

Extra first. You unlock Unlimited by finishing the routes for the two main girls. Alternative is last. Don't look up anything else about the game.

Try checking it out again. I hear the steam version has gotten a stealth update, like if you delete Monika before starting the game, you get the "now we can all be happy" screen.

Yeah, we that's why we have hospitals instead of just slaughtering everyone who has mental problems.

For a meta game about fucking with the game it really underplayed its uniqueness. Monika's added files don't have secret messages that make sense in character, just some random ebin secrets, act 2 is basically Monika being very lazy for an omnipotent and omnipresent god in the game and in a game whose main theme is fucking with the game files and your computer, you can't counter fuck with them besides deleting Monika which leads to sayori achieving sentience and having only two possible reactions to it which is a pretty limited amount for something like that.
There's a lot of cool ways the game could react to messing with chr files alone without really adding any content like how putting sayori back in after sayonara scene but with changed text about how she missed feeling nothing so she killed herself again, putting you in a loop until you give up, deleting Yuri could start act 3 early with some extra lines from Monika and deleting natsuki could just play act 2 as normal but without her because she doesn't matter or how putting the girls back in after Monika breaks everything could have her notice and say that while they exist again, the scene will never advance so they will never get loaded.
Pretty disappointing desu. If you make a meta game you should be prepared for players to be meta instead of doing nothing or defaulting to gray sayonara if they think outside the box.

doesn't work. it's disappointing how on-the-rails file manipulation is, to be honest. it only handles couple of situations and then recreates files when needed.

There are only two moments where messing with the files shows you something new, before starting a new game and after leaving the Monika's room.

You aren't supposed to dislike any of the girls, Monika included (gotta make your audience fall in love with them so they will buy the sequel and all the silly keychains). In the end, she was just a husbandofag.
