Objective truth doesn't exist. There are no facts if maths can't back you up. And, as quality of entertainment is subjective, and objective truths aren't the middle ground of subjective points of view, you can never say that something is objectively better. People can reach consensus, but it's not the same.

BG2, Vampires and Deus Ex are fine, but Morrowind only becomes a good game with mods, and the Gothic series is the absolute allegory for mediocrity.

Redemption is better then Bloodlines. But replace with A: OSaMO
SS2 is better then DX in that genre. But replace both with FO2
Take out Morrowind, replace with ToEE
Take out Gothic and replace with PST
Now you have 5 of the best cRPGs.

Thinking the game is overall mediocre with hints of brilliance, and as such undeserving of occupying a top spot in a best off list, isn't *hating* the game though.
The game is an acquired taste, and as much as I like it, you have to be willfully ignoring a lot of its faults to put it above a game like, say, Fallout.

No. Just no. Redemption is a mess of a game that totally misunderstood its base material. It's sole saving grace on release was the multiplayer.

In the course of my career as a vidcon specialist (my own coinage, spend it wisely), I have never seen such blatant and frankly sickening ignorance as that exhibited by the "people" (if, in fact, they are homo sapiens at all, as their intelligence implies elsewise) that claim that Deus Ex is not an RPG. There is nothing that Warren "451" Spector could possibly do to make the vidcon any more of an RPG as it meets every single criterion for being one, particularly that it takes place in a futuristic realm with fantastical technology, the damsel villain ratio is at or above standards, and that the core emphasis of the gameplay is on bedazzling all foes with impeccable guns and dialogue. Furthermore, this line of thought can be extended to all vidcons in which the player controls a character (hence, roleplaying), though I cringe slightly at the thought of such mundane vidcons as Madden being RPGs, as they do not even include exotic weaponry such as the minicrossbow.
These are the creme de la creme of RPGs?
No wonder they are dead.
RPGs suck.
Just remember anons there was a time that these games were considered acceptable.

Morrowind is fucking trash. Enemies designs are great but that's it. Absolutely terrible and unfun game with useless spells and awful clunky boring as fuck combat. The journal used for your quest logs is absolutely terrible also

I don't think the combat is fantastic or anything but what games implement the same dice roll based combat system that actually make it look good?
Baldur's Gate poisoned the whole genre and it wasn't long before shit like dialogue wheels and romance sub-plots started to be considered as 'rpg elements'.
It undermines RPGs as a whole. Consider how linear it is compared to a true RPG like Ultima IV or V. There is no challenge or enjoyment in following a linear plot thread and levelling up at almost predetermined points along the way. You might as well be playing pac-man: going down straight corridors, being fed the exact prescribed amount of experience, and going to the next level in time for the next set of corridors.
How can anyone say that Baldur's Gate is among the best Role-playing games? You are stuck with a set list of pre-determined, pre-written party members in a pre-written plot having a pre-arranged 'experience'. It's hideous compared to what RPGs could have and should have been had it not come along and had filth like you not suckled at its teat for twenty fucking years intil your so spoiled by its milk that you can't get nourishment from anything else.

Ultima 7 even puts most modern RPGs to shame. I'm at a loss to understand how someone like Garriott managed to produce that game, but there it is.
With all its detail and interactivity a Morrowind could only dream off.
