The basic version is a lot better than it used to be, but it still does a few things that are totally unnecessary and mess with the atmosphere and immersion for anyone who has played vanilla. That's my main issue with it. The Unofficial Patch is more updated and well done from a technical standpoint, but from the perspective of keeping the game pure in the vanilla sense it still fails.

There are a few "restored" lines of dialogue that don't really make sense, and one of them actually made me stop to look up what was happening because I thought my game was bugged. And the laptop in Venus' club seems out of place with the way Larry's email to her was written, it's out of character and just feels poorly done.

You can generally go for stealth, physical combat, power based combat, ranged combat or social in terms of approaches to the game. Choose a clan with a background you think sounds appealing to you and take it from there.

Install the community patch. Don't go Malkavien first run through. I did. It was a mess, and I had no idea what was going on. Granted, that was fun for my 14 year old self, but if I did it now I'd feel cheated.

Sure they are. Myself and others have played Malk our first time and loved it, and wouldn't have it any other way. Please stop spreading this meme around, it's not true. Playing Malk for your first time where you can't entirely understand your dialogue responses and then playing Malk a second time when everything is more clear is great, and you'll miss out on being able to do that if you don't play Malk your first time.

Mage n' Werewolf is 10x better than Masquerade. They also mesh really well together.

Vampire generally ruins the cosmology of the setting, and is why the metaplot stinks so bad.

Yeah, they just wreck human enemies but against bosses need to rely on Auspex and guns. Nossies can use Potence and melee attacks while spamming Burrowing Beetle (level 2 Animalism) which actually does a ton of damage.

It's a shame too because Mage is actually pretty interesting but the fanbase is intolerable.

brawl is not useless, it's the stat used for feeding during combat

and feeding during combat is more useful than you'd think seeing as it heals you and incapacitates an enemy at the same time

Except there's easier ways to feed during combat than brawl:
Toreador, Brujah and Ventrue can just use Presence to briefly stun enemies and drain them
Tremere can use level 1 dominate to do the same, it comes for free
Nossies have potence, which means theyll have a high brawl without putting points in it
And malks have hysteria, which does the same thing as dominate

Next time I play a clan with Presence I'll try it out. I did it once before but don't really remember how it worked out.

You may not realize it, especially not in this state, but, vampire-players were (at one point) a not!mage variant of the "magefags".

Vampire & Mage have always been at each other's throats. The Masquerade fanbase didn't like a game stronger than their own, especially not with its "revenge fantasy" themes and gimmicks.

So Vampire was 2nd, and Mage was first. They got annoyed. A single 'Lawn Chair' spell later and an all-out war erupted since 93.

Yeah, try it out, Fortitude is actually pretty useless when you realize Wits+Dodge do exactly the same for less XP cost, and without costing you blood

I always assumed that Vampire would be the strongest due to it being the face of the company. That the others were just later additions to the world revolving around the Kindred.

Quite the opposite, on average, vamps are weakest (except for wraiths)
Although once you start getting low in generation, it's a completely different story, although top tier mages still win out (probably)

I read the tremere book and they talked about the Order of Hermes, do they count as the OP mages? If so then are Tremere as powerful as (im assuming the lower tier) mages?

The Order of Hermes is part of the Council of the Nine Mystic Traditions, who are incredibly powerful but on the weaker half of the Mage world.
The Tremere are nowhere near as powerful as a mid tier mage, but could probably take on the low tier ones (Tremere magic is static, whilst the order has true magic)

No they aren't. They're the strongest at the very end. They can potentially become elders, methuselahs and antediluvians. And don't get me started on Caine. Mages are only strong in the 1- 5 category. After that Vampires win out with age.
