OVERWATCH COMPETITIVE UPDATES

youtube.com/watch?v=jjTS_oAcLy8
youtube.com/watch?v=rLbdW3z5uQQ

Here's the rundown if you don't want to watch:

>Overwatch esports is hard to follow so they're adding team uniforms and team color palettes
>each team has team-specific skins in both home and away colors as well as team-specific colored particles for their abilities (this applies to both regular teams and the country teams in the World Cup)
>what this means is well over a dozen new esports themed skins for each character
>the skins will be available to purchase directly for a nominal fee instead of the usual lootbox method

>new features for broadcasters: top down interactive map, third-person smart camera
>broadcasters can now create instant replays during live broadcasting
>tournament games will now automatically pause when players disconnect
>more to come as Blizzard is committed to supporting Overwatch esports for a long time

>OVERWATCH
Stopped reading right here

>trying to make a competitive FPS where you don't even have to aim with most of the cast
Why?

>Esports
Stopped reading right there.

Whats your rank? Unless you can easily make it to Top 500 you should stop posting.

what will they do about all the matches featuring the same 6 characters?

Is Blizzard still mad they got btfo by LoL and Dota2?

I don't play shit games where you don't even have to aim with most of the cast. See me in 1.6.

Ahh, you know he doesn't even play the game. He read some shitposts on Sup Forums and that's it.

Kill yourself you braindead casual fuck.

That's clearly a Russian flag

What that all reads is a bunch of bullshit nobody cares about because it doesn't impact the actual game and nobody except the 1% who care about OW as an actual esport should care.

No, but there will be a Russia skin if you're into that.

>UK
>Sweden
>Canada
>Australia
>China
>France
>South Korea
>United States

Which skin will you get for which hero, bros?

>Overwatch competitive update
>literally just more skins and e-sports garbage

>balance is absolutely fucked beyond belief
>GUYS ESPORTS
holy shit they have given up

How is the balance fucked? Explain.

post yfw they reveal a new offense hero at Bizzcon

1.6? oh you mean the game where you have to aim at people's feet to get a headshot?

mercy picked every game both teams no matter what, winston/diva also basically picked every game no matter what
over half the cast has less than 5% pick in tournament play

>game has major problems with balancing and has been shittily reworked to the point that it's bleeding players and a bunch of competitive teams have abandoned it
>"hey guys let's add some esports stuff to it, that must be what we're doing wrong!"

>it's bleeding players and a bunch of competitive teams have abandoned it
Nobody can provide a source for this.

probably has to do with the characters used in competitive.

Can I get the fucking team color palettes as pleb? Sick of a 1 pixel red outline being an enemy indicator

t. jeff

turn off the red line and allow allies always visible like healers

>the skins will be available to purchase directly for a nominal fee instead of the usual lootbox method
What even is the point.

This game needs more content, not new skins.

>esport garbage
>overwatch

How is this shit a thing and how can people digest it?

>Overwatch esports is hard to follow so they're adding team uniforms and team color palettes
Yea, no shit.
The only difference in teams are the big fucking red outlines that appear when you look at an enemy. It makes hiding around a corner damn near impossible due to the fact that you're essentially a fucking giant target if they catch even a bit of your model on the corner of their screen.

>provides no source
>just tries to meme his way out
*shakes head and smirks*

Literally nothing that I care about
great pdate

>community asks for more skins not tied to events
>p2lookcool garbage bullshit cancer stuff tied with microtransaction and esports
not ok

>Esports

What the fuck is the endgame with Esports? Jesus fuck, they are fucking cringy. Leave my vidya alone.

Pussy blizzard devs don't want to admit that the playerbase is dropping so they don't give out numbers

Game needs to select a player of the game for the winning team and a worst player of the game for the losing team. No more hiding by blaming another player for the loss.

There isn't really another shooter like TF2, and that game shat the bed years ago.

uh yeah?
you guys should read their financial report
activision blizzard is focusing on esports and broadcasting for the next year

To be fair, As a non player the first time I saw a "competitive" game was like a month after release and I could barely see what was happening in that clusterfuck of everyone using the same characters. If that helps with that then good. But
>the skins will be available to purchase
kek, That shit should be free and automatically done as long the game is set on a tournament and you activate some kind of team setting in a lobby.

>What the fuck is the endgame with Esports?
Making a lot of money.

It's apparently working quite well because it's all they focus on in League and Dota.

So why does Sup Forums have such a hate boner for Overwatch anyways? It's fun.

20 million buy in. You know the owners want to make their money back. This is like "jerseys" and merchandise.

...

dont know how to stand up for themselves when people are yelling at them to play support. Shamed into being heal sluts.

here i'll post it some of their info
>The size of the opportunity ahead for us is vast. Around 240 million people watch around 7 billion hours of NFL content annually, generating $12.0 billion in revenues including $6.1billion in media rights revenue; theNBA has 176 million viewers watching 2.1 billion hours each year, creating $5.2 billion in revenues and $1.8 billion in media rights. To broadcast the organized competition we are creating, we are building MLG.tv into the first dedicated channel for professionally produced esports and the adjacent content that celebrates and recognizes our players for their accomplishments. We liken this to the ESPN of videogames.

>We are also working on an advertising model fit for that future. The quicklygrowing esports audience includes some of the hardest to reach and most sought after demographics, with a share of millennials two to three times higher than any of the ‘Big Four’ US sports.

Theres more info but basically esports is their main focus this and next year.

Please, you have a designated board for slurping semen

actually my bad, 1/4 of the cast has under 5%, another 1/4 is under 10%

its a meme and they're usually ranked gold or less or mercy mains

People watch add on the internet?

>COMPETITIVE UPDATES
>wow i wonder what they're fucking up this season
>LOL ITS JUST OVERWATCH LEAGUE SKINS
You can say they're stealing this idea from League but League only made skins based off whoever won Worlds for that year.

In essence they're taking the idea from Halo 5, the big difference is that Halo 5 competitive has fuck all for funding and by buying the skins you're actually helping a team not abandon the game. Overwatch League is a multi-billion dollar investment, you're giving millionares even more money for no real reason.

Yeah yeah, "where do think we are?" but I swear I think of any shooter ever, Sup Forums hates it the most

There was another announcement right after that saying that mercy reworks are coming and we will hear more at blizzcon.

Overwatch has remained popular and it's not TF2, so naturally people hate it.

I guess its all about advertisement, they just want people to get used to seeing them stick some logos in there while people watch so eventually they'll add sponsorships like a nascar race suit

The game is fun. It's the competitive scene that I hate so fucking much.

>That one pro does something cool and unique and it works because he knows what he is doing

>That one fucking plebbit fuck on your team trying to copy that move without understanding why it worked

>Every fucking game you get a group of idiots following the same damn tactics over and over

>Choosing other characters out of the meta is considered throwing

I really wish OW esport died already. It's what's killing the damn game.

haha, I remember people demanding we go tank meta or dive and then asking them if they knew how it worked, and if the whole team knew how those metas work, and if anyone says no then fuck it.

Because it's popular. The thing about popular games on Sup Forums is that while there's a lot of shitposting you can usually find an equal amount of people who actually play the game. So, just talk to them and ignore the shitposters.

I miss no limits normal quick play
catering to comp killed it for me

>Halo 5 competitive

I don't pay attention to Overwatch pros so I have no idea what techniques people are trying to ripoff, but this happens for literally every competitive game. I remember pros were singlehandedly responsible for people realizing that Annie support is actually a thing.

I don't recall any game that was improved with the addition of esports.
Guild Wars 2 tried hard to push that shit in year 1 as well and it was just pathetic.
TF2 pushed the competitive mode and look how it turned out.

Yeah, thats never going away.

What the fuck? I haven't played GW2 but what could they possibly do with esports in that?

I hope they don't change her ult again.

Love how for every game people criticize you have these retards who come out of the woodwork to bitch about WUTS UR RANK???
You don't need to be a world class chef to figure out the food you are being served is disgusting.

>team uniforms and team color palettes
It won't work. First person shooters make for shit esports material. Quake was the only exception to this, CounterStrike was always shit.

Starcraft and Tekken are the most watchable games of all time.

The basic concept of the game is the problem with Overwatch as an Esport. It isn't fun to watch two teams stand at a chokepoint. This cannot be fixed without deleting the whole fucking game and starting over.

>Unless you're in the top .001% of players don't criticize the game
Does that logic also mean you shouldn't be able to defend the game either since somehow your opinions are only valid if you're a high level player?

Yeah except the guy literally hasn't even played the game so he does not know jack shit.

I remember when Ragnarok Online had esports

>OVERWATCH COMPETITIVE

I know it's a meme, but a lot of it is the way the game lends itself so much to being a huge drag each match. The way team composition works, if your team has even one weak link, the other team will shitroll you and it's just not an enjoyable experience. With how often you need to be swapping characters (if the other team counters yours, if your team comp just isn't working, etc), it's hard to feel like you're getting better at any specific character or skill, and more like you're just playing match-to-match to scrape out wins rather than in the long run to get better. Tie that to the way that you only get any real rewards if you win (lootbox shit, competitive rank), and it's a recipe for a miserable game experience, because it feels more like you wasted your time than anything. When I still played, unless I was in a group with 4-6 players, it felt more like I was just trying to reach the end of the match than trying to actually do well and have a good time
Combine what I said above with the way character selection works (some characters are straight up more enjoyable to play, and if people lock the roles you prefer before you lock, fuck you, too bad, enjoy your mercy you filthy fucking slut), you're going to be stuck with people you probably won't get along with doing something you aren't enjoying for little to no reward. This isn't even mentioning the problems with the map design, as well, which certainly contributes to how "samey" each match feels, because most characters really only have a few ways to do whatever it is they do on each map. I eventually got bored of playing "will I get matched with shitheads" lottery and uninstalled. This is coming from the "casual" perspective, as well, since I only ranked in middling plat to low gold (rank started dropping as I played less and less until finally quitting), so make of it what you will.

If they were smart they'd put the ult back where it was at the start and just relegate res to only being available during ult on a small cooldown, since the ult wasn't ever the problem, it was her rezzing the other 12 times a round outside of ult that was a problem.

Outside of that, the only thing that needs fixing is her hitbox while in ult is stupid.

Korea is the only option.

>finally add non-event skins
>$400 for a saturation boost with CHINA printed on it

I don't watch them either. But more often than not you probably have seen a webm or two about an awesome gameplay made by a pro floating around on the internet and it ends up here at Sup Forums.

Like that one tactic in Hanamura where a Mei creates a bridge from the second floor into the door of the temple.

I had 8 fucking retards try that shit and every single time it failed. I knew what they were talking about since I had seen the webm but I knew it wouldn't worked because unlike this fucking idiot, the team on the webm was coordinated.

Fuck esports, where are my balance changes?

They tried pushing their structured PvP as an esport worthy mode and I have no idea what they were thinking.
It was riddled with balance issues and overall lack of interest.

Stop playing Overwatch.

>you have to put the rancid shit in your mouth before you know it's good to eat

>food analogy
-_-

>winston dva

Bastion being a popular counter against her now. As well as some junkrat

You know, I was interested around a year ago but they fumbled so hard

Combined with crazy buffs and nerfs every 2 months made me drop the game and MUH ESPORTS pretty hard at around christmas last year.

>emoticon
OK?

This.

Doomfist, Lucio, Zenyatta, and Torbjorn need buffs
Mercy does too much of too much, and needs to be reworked into a simpler but more skill-orientated role.
Reinhardt does too little compared to more offensive tanks in the current meta.

Reminds me of Pokemon GO : They had what they needed to make a successful base for the next fucking 50 years and they dropped it right off a cliff.

What's D.va do that's so good?

This game is fun and all I guess but Blizzard is just awful at making viable esports games. Other than Starcraft I suppose.

Deny ults and remain on the battlefield continuously.

>acronym
Gabagool?

Objectively incorrect. You've mistaken the high you get from sociocultural affirmation for fun.

The current meta relies heavily on high mobility, and out of all the tanks the only ones that have decent mobility options are D.VA and winston, and D.Va is more mobile and versatile than winston.

Overwatch is the women's basketball of esports.

>poor

Nigga please, women's basketball has more dignity than overwatch's shitsports.

Yeah try and grab them millennials, ActiBlizz. Good luck with that ya greedy fuckin' cunts.

how do I get that dva skin

yup, overwatch grabbed me like no other game in the last 5 years +

I was actively playing 10+ matches a day but then they start shifting shit around. You find your moves and abilities dont do what they're supposed to and you need to relearn the game every 2 months.

Those first 2-3 months were glorious though.
I just stick to looking up fanart of my waifu now though

>Negate all incoming projectiles, ults and all
>Have a massive health pool which when depleted puts her in a weaker state but the massive health pool can be retrieved if she stays alive for long enough, instantly if the smaller form is killed then revived
>Now does a fairly insane amount of damage with her rockets

This; they'll never be relevant or even remotely capable of competing in male sports but they try hard and are proud of what they do, which is at the very least admirable. There is no greater trait than trying your hardest.

>and you need to relearn the game every 2 months.
They might MIGHT rework a character at a large degree like every 3 months, and that's one character and in pretty much every case of a rework the character was still played almost identically from before.

I see, thanks for the info. I'll try her out when I play again. Hope she's fun in just regular pleb quick plays.
