It's only better received because there were so many more players in WoD. At the start of WoD 80% players were willing to shit on the expansion and demand better content. That 80% is gone now leaving only the 20% that have proved their willingness to eat shit.

No, there were fundamental problems with WoD. Like, the amount of cut content and logistical issues during that era caused enough drama to warrant a tell-all book.

Legion definitely wasn't perfect, but it was smoother sailing.

WoD was a shitshow all around, this is true, however Legion's RNG bullshit drags the whole thing down. Everyone who likes it keeps saying it's really good if you can move past the RNG.
Not to mention the class halls which are garrisons 2.0, the absolute devaluing of legendaries, fucking artifacts and the zones scaling to your level completely destroying any over-arching story.
Legion was generally seen as a second-chance after what happened with WoD, but even WoD ended on 3.8 million players according to warcraftrealms, meaning more people stopped playing during Legion than during WoD.

And just because Blizzard did a better job of hiding their cut content and mistakes it makes it a million times better? The expansion is in no way better, There's just less disappointment because they won't show you what's been cut.
