How does Sup Forums decide what game to play? Do you simply play the most recent game you bought? Or are you working your way through a list? Perhaps you aren't very organised at all and just play whatever you feel like. This is how I feel most console gamers are, I was certainly like that until I built my PC, now there's far too much choice for that strategy.
How do you organise your backlog? Is it long or short? Do you often discard games you don't think you'll like as much, if at all, or do you just move them lower down the list?
Personally, I write my backlog down a vidya journal, it's really just a book I use to note down whatever I seems important and worth remembering. It's particularly useful for games like Hollow Knight or Prey, where you might want to backtack after you've progressed a bit more and have unlocked a new ability. I have an issue when it comes to choosing what game to play, I was thinking that maybe hearing your techniques may help me choose how to proceed in the future.

I've been using HowLongToBeat It can keep track of your time and has sections for you to place what you already finished and what is in your backlog.
For now, I just picked 6 games from it and placed it on the backlog section so that they are the ones that I must go through before anything else. There can be emergency occasions tho like the time I downloaded Cuphead just because I really really wanted to play it.
> Is it long or short? Very long... Especially when they keep giving out free games and I take them making that shit longer.
> Do you often discard games I just play them. See what I still haven't beaten and put them on the list regardless of its possible quality. The only thing I try to avoid is genre fatigue.

My backlog is my downloads folder

>play shit >finish it or drop it >trade dropped/average games in on new games that look fun
How is this hard?

I bought a bunch of 3ds games a few months ago I still haven't played. Fucking Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links is commanding all my comfy bedtime game attention at the moment
I just choose few games and finish them. Atm its Nier 1, DMC HD collection, Yskuza Kiwami, Wolfenstein New Colussus, TEW2 and Fractured butthole

>not using your pc for dragon's dogma, divinity original sin, sonic mania, or devil may cry
is there a reason for this? you better have a good one

After a job and more productive hobbies took most of my time I just buy one game in a steam sale and focus on it entirely till I'm satisfied with it.
Brayden Myers
One old, then one new and no cherry picking. Also I add one year to every game release-date to avoid everything toxic about it. For the last 20 years I had nothing but fun playing games this way.
Christopher Brown
alphabet order or flavor of the month (October means i have to play that Whistleblower DLC i've missed back in the day)
Sebastian Sanchez
current list is
>Fractured But Whole >Mario Odyssey >FF12: Zodiac Age >TWEWY >KH3D >Nioh
I usually like to play at least 2 games per day, so hopyfully South Park & FF12 will be finished quickly. I think Mario will take ages as I just love exploring in games.
John Davis
does it work with steam only? I can just see my time played to figure out if i played the game or not

There is really nothing that compares to the virgin power of someone that treats video games as a job.
Jayden Bennett
Yeah I think it only works with Steam. They got the option to upload your whole list and it tells you how much time you have played them.
In the end, I have to update the play time manually everytime so I use the timer that appears in the steam overlay (Shift+tab) before exiting a game. For other games, like GOG (If its not modern) or pirate downloads I use a normal timer.

Its more about at least making the investment worth something. There is no point just keeping buying games or have them sitting there if you are not going to play them.
John Scott
That's like planning all your free time for the next couple of years. There is nothing more autistic.
Wyatt Ross
Nah you are just deciding on playing your old games instead of buying new ones
Elijah Garcia
is ninja gaiden 3 worth adding to the backlog? They have 0 plans to add it to PC right? I'd have to bust out my ps3 to try it
Jayden Nelson
That would imply that backlogs actually are getting finished instead of staying never ending.

>adding to your backlog
STOP DONT MAKE IT ANY WORSE YOU'LL NEVER COMPLETE IT AT THIS RATE
Cameron Turner
If you're good and don't get easily frustrated than absolutely check out Razor's Edge. It's awesome but those back to back, 10-15 minutes long group fights on the highest difficulty are nerve shattering.
Alexander Carter
That depends how frequently you keep "adding" games to it. The reason why mine is long is because I emulate and am interested in a lot of old games. In a good year there might be what? like 5-6 new games I might want to play? I agree that finishing backlogs seems like a naive thing to say so I guess the point is to reduce them. Instead of having 50+ games you can chop that down faster than game releases.
Jacob Kelly
I play the game I know I'm in the mood for. No point in starting a Final Fantasy game if you know you ain't got the urge for 40 hour long JRPG.
Hunter Cook
>tfw you have 172 games in your backlog
how did i let it get this bad holy fuck
Nathan Smith
>Evil Within 1/2 >Dawn of War 2 >ELEX I can't decide which one to play so I'm wasting my time in Warframe

I had several hundred games in my backlog a couple of years ago. We are talking about games that i had paid money for not just games that i was interested in. What i did was that i regularly made a list of everything and decided that i was not going to buy any new games unless it was something i would play immediately or something i would play with a friend. Pic related is an example. Now i have pretty much only a couple of games left to play.
When it comes to organize games i have an interest in but haven't bought i simply put them in my wishlist. The problem is that there are so many games coming out that my wishlist does now have several hundred games in it and i am not sure that i care about half of them.
