Consensus is not meaningless. It's a good way of getting at least a rough estimate of how good or bad a game is probably going to be. Individual isolated cases where I don't agree with the consensus don't mean that much.

Both of them are out of date, BotW is at 8.4 with 9413 ratings and H:ZD is at 8.3 with 5156 ratings

Funnily enough, the critic rating for BotW and Horizon went down and up one point respectively

Maybe the positives outweigh the very few negatives user. The score doesn't have to be a sum total of good + bad. if the game is excellent, some flaws can be overlooked and/or forgiven.

I agree that trying to appear special and being anti conformistic is the same as being a sheep and following the popular opinion blindly. Still, if you've developed a solid taste of your own, the score is only a distraction and it's much more effective to follow recommendations and opinions of people who know you well or whose opinions you respect.

Horizon's not a bad game and is definitely worth it after the price cut, but because of the shitposting games either are GOTY or irredeemable trash according to Sup Forums. Console war kids are the worst.
The only disappointing thing is that AC:
Kangz looks mediocre. I want to alternate between Odyssey and that.

I prefer Ocarina Of Time, but dungeons aren't the only thing that makes the series good. Skyward Sword had some of the best dungeons in the series and that game wasn't great.

I think BOTW really plays to Zelda's strengths, which is the feeling of being an epic adventure, even though it was a radical departure from the dungeon formula

I think it depends on the game in question. Gacha games are popular but that does not mean that they are good
