Lads. I'm late as fuck but I finally beat it. What a ride.

I fucking love JRPGs. Talk about them. Try and hold back from posting spoilers without spoiler tags.

Atlus jrgs best jrpgs. rest is shit.

guess i do need to OP with bait eh? either way thanks for the bait bump

I love this series so much it motivated me to pick my rune studies back up after giving up for a few years. I just finished chapter 2 in Ao evolution and the ride never ends.

If you thought that Trails is a ride, try Automata and see how it will fuck you up.

Play 3rd, it gets better

You finished FC, SC, and the third I'm assuming? Look forward to zero's completed fan translation soon. Also, if you haven't played cold steel 1 and 2, theyr'e not as good as sky imo, but still good games.

Also, try falcom general over at /vg/

>play "Philosophy 101: The Video Game"

>i have no opinion of my own yet i must shitpost

Good for you user now join a fan translation team and help the rest of us plebs

OP here, I actually did, the week before I also got ending E. I had a breakdown even before it started on this part, the delivery of this one line was all it took.

On a tight budget and dont want to pirate it after how good SC treated me. I'll be on the lookout during winter sale.

Please read the above, I will buy every game eventually including the Steel ones. Not a fan of /vg/ btw, too much spoilery happening.

I only started a few months ago, the wait to actually get competent enough to actually play Ao after finishing Zero is killing me. The way I see it thought it is would ironically be faster to learn moon then to wait for a translation.

Now you get to have fun with the wild ride that is the 3rd, have fun man.

Good timing too, Ao's translation may very well be done by the time you finish 3rd and Zero.

I really want to play this and 3rd but boy the first game is a fucking slog. How can I motivate myself to play it all the way through?

If you're already a few months in and you put in 2-3 hours every day you'll be able to read cold steel 3 before xseed gets it shipped in English thats for sure.
Also I know everyone says this but start reading or playing something in Japanese at the earliest moment you feel up to it because context makes grammar and vocab stick in your head so much easier than just studying flashcards or doing structured lessons.

Just be aware 3rd seems to be kind of polarizing people either really hate it or love it. It's a bit different then FC/SC taking place in one huge dungeon and much of the lore fills in what happened after SC. It also serves to setup events for crossbell. Personally it was my favorite of the trilogy, large cast, best combat of the 3, a lot of great moments, Kevin is awesome as an MC and seeing his background is interesting. What always gets me is Falcom managed to top themselves after SC with the OST, it blew the fuck away how many good tracks were in the game.

>Please read the above, I will buy every game eventually including the Steel ones. Not a fan of /vg/ btw, too much spoilery happening.
They have been generally pretty good about spoiler tags but they have a few (or 1 dedicated autist) really notorious shitposters always starting shit about Xseed/NISA and spergs out everytime someone says something even remotely positive about Cold Steel. I haven't been there since CS3 came out in Japan though, still haven't even finished 1 yet.

>Zero
That's actually a good time to ask, what is the status on it? Last I read on some other thread it has an iffy translation but its complete? If so, are there plans to make a better one or are we stuck with the iffy one for the foreseeable future?

1st one can be boring depending on how you wanna go about it. There's not much happening and until the last chapter the rest of the game is just worldbuilding. Personally I liked it very much despite that because I loved the setting, the in-game world, the characters and the laid-back atmosphere.

Maybe try speedrunning it, dont do side-quest or grinding or anything like that. The latest update to it should have a dedicated speed up button too.

SC was not that good.

Zero's translation is fine, if a bit dry and literal sounding at times. It is a complete translation though, with all NPC dialogue completed. Ao is the one that has a terrible translation atm.

>Also I know everyone says this but start reading or playing something in Japanese at the earliest moment you feel up to it because context makes grammar and vocab stick in your head so much easier than just studying flashcards or doing structured lessons.
Yeah I've been planning on playing something like FE5 which currently has a garbage translations. I want to be really comfortable with reading moon before I touch Ao. Don't want it to be one of my first games and have to go back and look words up every 5 seconds.

I'm on the boat that says the translation is workable. It conveys enough about what's going to be good, it's just not that polished.
I can admit that 70% of it was predictable shit but I did enjoy its highs

>395091965
>Last I read on some other thread it has an iffy translation but its complete?
It's certainly playable I've finished but but as this user said its very literal and dry. It also has some awkward lines in it but overall its understandable and playable.

After this, honestly, I can't not play it and I certainly don't feel like I won't love it. I know its bait for the next game but good god, they know how to reel me in.

I'll give it a try in due time. PSP right?

>PSP
And on Steam

Oh wait, you meant Zero. Yeah, grab a PSP emulator

Great, thanks for the info user.

Zero's translation is a machine translation but it's understandable for the main quest and covers the whole game. Just don't expect to enjoy NPC interactions or dialogue at all with it.

The Church of Aidios is the best church in all video games.

So this is the power of Trails weebery... Me too

>someone actually likes video games on Sup Forums
I can't believe this is happening right now. I thought it was a myth

You've clearly only been to bait threads then

Really the only complaint I had about the 3rd is that they changed Schera's looks for no reason. Her new outfit isn't nearly as sexy and she doesn't look good with short hair.

>I know its bait for the next game but good god, they know how to reel me in.
All I'll say it it gets even crazier with Kevin when he stops holding back

>Ao translation
>Done
KEK

>So this is the power of Trails weebery... Me too
Eh I won't lie and say Ao is not one of my primary motivators but I've been wanting to learn a second language for years and Japanese is most relevant to me because I consume a lot of Japanese media. I've been stuck waiting on translations that take forever or may never happen so many times I got sick of it.

Trails in the Sky is legit my favorite videogame Trilogy next to Metroid Prime. It easily has my most loved cast in all of vidya as well. I love every single one of them. I wish I could put into words how much the series made me feel, but I won't make the game look bad by trying. The way FC's story builds itself, seemingly being nothing more than an (amazing) slice of life to all that happens in the final chapter and you realize the entire game was building up to that.

And then SC which ups the ante even more and makes the story grander, with so many twists and the world growing from all that you experienced in FC. Joshua and Estelle are my OTP in all of vidya. I love romance stories and Trails delivered on that hard.

Now with all that I typed out, play 3rd eventually user (after a break, the games can wear you out). It's EASILY my favorite of the trilogy, being both an amazing standalone story AND a game that expands on the entire series' lore as a whole. Kevin is also an amazing protagonist.

Damn it's so fucking good.

Oh and never play Cold Steel. Just imagine the series ends after 3rd. I bought FC back when SC launched on PC, blazed through them both one after another, then eagerly awaited 3rd on PC and blazed through that too, then eagerly waited for Cold Steel.

Cold Steel was a complete let down that shit on everything Trails set up. Just ignore it.

Autism aside Zero and Ao are great and Zero in particular is extremely relevant to Sky and certain characters within so you'd be doing yourself a disservice by avoiding them.

Ah yeah, my bad, forgot about Ao/Zero. I haven't played them so I won't say anything about them. I've heard good things.

you should really get to playing 3rd since its done beautifully and really makes you appreciate all the characters together

Wisdom. Really feel the same about FC+SC user, you're right about the break though and it'll probably make the eventual 3rd playthrough all the sweeter.

Cold Steel seems really polarizing among fans so if anything I still wanna give it a try for that among other reasons.

I got tired of waiting for Crossbell translations and just played Zero using the patched ISO and Ao using the machine-translated ISO while reading some guide and a translation of the Crossbell Data Archives.
Did pretty much every sidequest but probably missed a bunch of correctly translated dialogue, but at least I got to play both and enjoy the main story.

3rd is the only game to ever make me cry. It was intense stuff

I'd say it's worth it to play Zero right now with the fan translation it's perfectly playable. Of course just make sure to buy it as well whenever it gets an official translation. If it ever does

It's a bit better than a machine translation. Honestly there have been official localizations of JRPGs that have been much worse. I'm looking at you FF7

FF7 didn't have an NPC literally saying "internal cumshot" because the machine translated it that way. This guy are sick is tame in comparison.

Trails in the Sky is the shit. I'm not usually into JRPGs but I loved the trilogy, if you can even call it one. My main issue were the slow combat animations, which apparently were fixed recently.

Cold Steel's setting and aesthetic are very off-putting to me. I still might check it at some point, since the writing in TitS has been so likeable, maybe this will surprise me, too.

Also post best songs!

Looking up at the Sky ED Version

The story and how they ended in 3rd was the biggest asspull

Ao translation was fucking bad. How did you even enjoy it?

I got Tales of Zesteria recently

What am I for?

I've only played CS1 so far, but I liked it. But I'm pretty happy to just be in the world again. It was great comparing the sights of garrelia fortress from zero to CS1 and watching the scale of the world grow up, plus the capital city being a big sprawling metropolis even if it was gated.
I don't really know where you draw the lines of anime tropiness in an anime game, if characters are the complaint. But I did read something along the lines before of Rean basically being gary-stu chad thundercock surrounded by his waifus and background-cuck boys. muh wind

How can it be an asspull when it directly relates to the lore

Man, why is Sophisticated Fight so fucking good?

And the arrange is such an uplifting spin on it.

This is Trails thread. Fuck you dirty Talesfags play Berseria user, for Velvet

It perfectly captures what a light-hearted start the series began from. Just two kids out on an adventure, there was no grand undertaking for quite a while, it was a quest to grow as individuals.

user, like I said, I used some guides. And Crossbell Archives has an extensive summary of both games.

A very bad entry in the series with completely one-sided characters that waste their potential at developing in the most bland ways possible. Also camera problems out the ass during battle. This coming from somebody who enjoys almost all entries of the Tales series.

At least you'll get some pretty sweet references in Berseria, its prequel and arguably one of the best this series has offered for the past decade.

cold steel is better

Speaking of sound tracks having recently played through Zero evo it's been interesting discussing the new OST with my friend who played the psp version years ago. Overall I thought the OST was pretty solid but going back and listening to the psp soundtrack now I don't understand why they changed some of the tracks so drastically.

youtube.com/watch?v=_I4uPeQuqMg

The difference is huge. I think overall I prefer most of the evo versions of the battle tracks but the rest of the soundtrack seems to be more fitting somehow in the original version.
I'd still recommend Evo for the voice acting along though.

Also fuck the Evolution soundtracks.

The best kind. The genre literally needs more of this. Grandia and Skies of Arcadia are the best examples I can think of in the same vein, maybe Lunar 2 as well.

Only in CS3

Crossbell when?

I feel like just literally translating the Japanese would have sounded better here. "To have a flower in each hand."

Never ever. Enjoy your machine translation.

Xseed has absolutely no desire to translate the Crossbell after the abysmal sales.

They used to do it out of passion.
Where did it all go so wrong? Is this why they lost Ys?

You can't eat out of passion user.

Xseed never ran off passion, because passion doesnt pay peoples bills. There was almost a 5 year gap between FC and SC because FC flopped on PSP

There's also the drama about that one translator that held SC translation back more than they planned.

Remind me that faggot name again. Has he kill himself yet?

Andrew Dice

They put out a physical release on psp for sky 2 even though that was financially retarded and they admitted it was only because they wanted dedicated fans to be able to finish estelles story on the same platform they started it on.
They still dedicate time to patching the older games on PC too.
Theres definitely a lot of passion involved with certain staff at XSEED towards this series even though its currently losing to harsh reality.

What a shit timeline we live in.

I really want to like this game, but the combat is just fucking awful. Every fight I have every character do the same exact thing because it's gaurunteed to work every time, so I just have to click through everything and waste my time. I've made it 15 hours in and haven't had to change my strategy at all. When I actually get to plot development and dialogue it's amazing, I really like all the characters. But even with the sped up animations the combat's insanely tedious.

move on to cold steel, it's much better.

Man, you sold me on this game. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Sounds about right. Pic beyond related.

When did hatsuu became a land whale?

Watch out user, it's hard to recommend this series to people because it's very slow. If you're the kind of person that can tuck themselves in, relax, and get lost inside a world for hours on end, this series will blow you away. If you're not however, you'll lose interest an hour in.

I tried that too. Fixed the combat but everything else was generic JRPG shit. So it fixed everything wrong and ruined everything right with TiTS.

Generic JRPG shit is better than Cold Steel. Cold Steel is light novel trash.

I thought the Neptunia series was pretty good, no homo.

Light Novel trash describes all of Kiseki though.

Calvard when?

I played the "best game in the series" with VII and it was pretty mediocre

you hype me even more. I want just that.

But user, light novels have the potential to be good. Name one JRPG with a good story that isn't Nier or Kiseki. actually please do, I need recommendations

Guess this is about as good a thread about a port of an already old game's gonna get. Thanks anons.

Phantasy Star

Xenoblade Chronicles.

Also I seriously hope you didn't just post that absolute haremshit schlock as an example of a good light novel. Faggots like you are the type that think Cold Steel is good.

If you're the same guy that gave xenoblade chronicles as an example of a game with a good story you have zero credibility when it comes to tastes yourself.

>Good characters
>A world more interesting than most JRPGs, 99% of light novels which take place in a high school
>Hits all of its pacing moments, from the beginning to the end, only really stumbles when climbing the Mechonis
>Exceptional foreshadowing, playing through the game again reveals so many hints

There's a lot more but Xenoblade Chronicles is fucking legit. That you prefer Oregairu over it has me laughing at how awful your tastes are. Like God damn just recommend me Nisekoi next. Why am I even arguing against someone that eats shit off the floor.

but sky is so boring, thankfully cold steel exists

They always try to find logical explanations for gameplay mechanics.

Like how they properly explained why you had to throw away all your quartz and sepith at the start of SC.

Yeah, it was pretty painful to finish. Also I don't get the praise for Estelle.

>""good"" characters, all of which fall into cookie cutter jrpg tropes
>scifi dystopian future is original
>any good pacing with those god awful side quests in between
>"the thing from the beginning of the game is relevant now!" is good writing

Well, at least we both gave each other a good laugh. And yes, Nisekoi is shit.
