Wolfenstein: The New Colossus

Anyone know why Wolfenstein might have a globe map of the modern world, and not the entire world being one Reich? Bethesda might be at it again making lore breaking things in their games they don’t bother paying attention to...

Same reason why there's a globe in FO4 that has the US-Canada border instead of one single country and Europe is still OTL 21st century Europe

Laziness is an epidemic throughout Zenimax companies

because the countries are still considered "territories" that retain part of their original names, modified slightly with the reich stuff.
you'd know this if you actually paid any attention.

How convinient

they even kept Israel lmao

What I really want to know is why they put so many stealth things in the game when stealth is virtually impossible 99% of the time

What's the context? Is it historical? Did the Reich decide to use old national borders for zoning purposes despite it all being under one super administration (ie., old states have borders from back before the US existed, just because they became part of a new bigger nation doesn't mean there isn't still path dependency). There's plenty of reasons even a global unified conquering power might still have some of that legacy, even though there are also reasons they might want to change stuff around.

Alternatively likely explanation is just : devs were just not very thorough in their world building and expected most of their normie target audience not to care. Although in fairness, good worldbuilding takes serious effort and planning up front and skill, it's not even just a matter of costing a lot of money, it's hard. Not to excuse them so much as to say that it's awesome when a dev really gets every last bit right in ways that might only be really noticeable as you think back on it.

except Poland has east prussia which was a part of Germany until after WW2

>How convenient
Well, it's realistic isn't it? Look at our major existing "recent" powers: there's stuff like the UK, the USA, the Soviet Union, and even China. In every case you still have the outlines of previous "national" borders unless it's REALLY old, like in England proper yeah, the old monarchies of forever ago may be gone, but ireland/wales/scotland all retained identity under the UK. China still has tibet they're digesting. Europe is full of old lines dating back forever. A few states were their own countries at one point, and all were at least their own administrative territories. The USSR didn't fully erase/remake the borders of its constituents. Etc etc.

This sort of thing is pretty damn sticky in modern times unless maybe we talk hundreds/thousands of years (like China or Middle Ages until now) and borders were way more fluid back then.

>israel
Yeah that's dumb, though I could see the Reich keeping the old "Palestine" outline there just to rub in their control.

At LEAST Germany would take back Alsace-Lorraine from France after WW2.

It's just lasyness.

>they went to the trouble of changing some names
>but didn't rethink the map and at least base it on a 1940 version
So not "laziness" so much as just plain lack of skill, ie., they suck. They actually expended some effort to change some names and come up with an explanation, but fucked it up because whomever was in charge isn't terrible at worldbuilding.

Incompetence is more the rule then the exception though at Zenimax so can't say I'm that surprised.

Mexico should also be part of the USA

>e Reich decide to use old national borders for zoning purposes despite it all being under one super administration (ie., old states have borders from back before the US existed, just because they became part of a new bigger nation doesn't mean there isn't still path dependency). Those are POST WWII borders

Might be nitpicking but I think there's a difference between laziness and stupidity. It's not like tons of world maps of that era aren't readily available. I literally just went over to google image and typed "1940 world map" and got plenty of hits. I'm sure they could have grabbed a historical one to use for that, anything pre-1979 would be public domain at this point. There'd be no extra work in using one of those vs using a modern one at all.

Rather, they just didn't even think of it. Kind of more galling really, I hate it a lot more when a better result would literally be no extra work but the devs fucked it up just due to incompetence.

Is this the new Sup Forums butthurt bullshit to hate the game?

>it is going to be shit guys I swear!
top marks on metacritic

>it is a communist propaganda
already confirmed fake

>b-but it is only 4 hours long
confirmed fake

so yeah, now the main reason will be
>hurr durr a random globe in the game doesn't show my nazi utopia

this is man in the high-castle shit.

>slipping between worlds

hopefully the next game we'll be dimension-hopping and encounter a Stalinist America, or briefly wander through a country where the Cuban Missile Crisis got hot.

or something

>Sup Forums
all the other reasons seem like Sup Forumsshit whining, but this sort of thing seems like genuine Sup Forumsirgin autism. also a fair complaint. pull up a 1930s/40s era map to use for a texture isn't an unreasonable ask for an aaa game.

OH GOD THE WAIT IS KILLING ME

First time I've been excited for a DICE game, but my god those graphics, that setting, the lore, the single player campaign, fucking space battles, everything I can ask for.

Who here /hype/?

wrong thread my shill friend

I own a globe that has the ussr on it. You people are retarded.

I figured it was a prewar globe, a curiosity.

Those are post-WW2 borders, look at Africa.

haha whoops ignore you saw that

UNF, WHOA! A new progressive age for Star Wars™ is definitely upon us! Based DICE.

>pre-war
>no USSR
>butt-hurt belt
>Fingolia
Nope, might as well go back to school.

it's just bethesda being lazy like always
