Too much money and EA. Began treating it like shit and didn't care about good programming or game design. Simple tricks and railroaded gameplay worked on the masses of idiots(females) that became the fanbase.

Instead of fun dynamic AI they focused on my little pet shop expansions and milking it with no passion.

I just installed the first game for nostalgia but everything feels so bloated with all expansions.

Went from making an efffort to realising they could just make money. Sims 1 was designed as a serious social engineering sort of game instead of MAKE PRETTY HOUSE AND PRETTY LADY. Even Sims 3 had decent work put into it. 4 is just a mobile game.

Yeah now you child, that isn't any indication of what it was like back when sims 1 was new. Sure there were probably more females playing than other games but they didn't become the majority until midway through Sims 2 and weren't pandered to until late Sims 2. Also they were always over represented in the custom content scene because most guys could care less about making shitty recolor 200 of shitty jacket 45 or making fuccboi celebrity based sims to act out gay roleplay fantasies.

Nothing went wrong. It was a mediocre mobile game before mobile games existed.
It hasn't strayed from its original goal. S3 was still the best but S4 isn't bad for what it is.

add all the sims1 expansions and tell that bullshit was worth starting over for outside graphics/system performance.

Loved 1 & 2, even bought the expansions.
Bought the base gae of 3, but I wont ever buy another one until they include base stuff lke Pets and toddlers etc in the standard game.

Though more of the Stories standalone games please, they were neat.

I was alive back then. Every single time in school, whenever a girl got an 8 pack of CDs from a guy, it was Sims + all the expansions. It was the only game that girls played.

The guys statement even says that the girls were getting it from the guys which means that even at his school girls were at most half of the sims playerbase (assuming there were no boys who owned the sims and didn't give CDs to girls).

I'd say simes to sims 2 to sims 3 was a worthy upgrade, although they should have included more content in the base versions, I agree. Sims 2 over 1 introduced everything to a 3D environment, so starting over was a necessity. Sims 3 introduced the open world, go anywhere at any time which was noteworthy, even if in the end it ended up being an absolute clusterfuck of bloat. Sims 4 on the other hand... nothing so far has made it worth needing it's own new game, unless you consider rumors that it was originally supposed to have online play but they canned after the sim city always online backlash.

The proper manul in the big box of the original game was full of all sorts of stuff about how society works and how people work with eachother etc.

Sims 1 came out when I was in middle school, and it was around when I was in highschool. Yes, guys played it too - for a few weeks or so, after that the novelty wore off. The only ones still playing it for more than a few weeks were girls. It was my friggin childhood, man.
